On Bum being a traitor and not remembering Sangwoos face…
A lot of people are calling Bum a traitor and although I kind of agree that he betrayed sangwoo, I also think it’s unfair to not look things from Bums perspective. I think there are many factors behind why Bum betrayed Sangwoo and why he cant remember Sangwoos face.
1. Sangwoo switched from being somewhat “normal” very abruptly and then started abusing and raping Bum again. When Seungbae then came to fight Sangwoo, Bum was completly mentally broken from being abused for some time. Bum probably havent processed everything that has happened, which is why he cant remember Sangwoos face.
Bums is so confused that he doesnt even understand that the firefighters found Sangwoo, even though he sees Sangwoo. If he didnt have any loyalty to Sangwoo he wouldnt have asked the firefighters to check the house again. Bum is too traumatized and confused to process what happened between him and Sangwoo and how he feels about Sangwoo. Expecting Bum to stay loyal to Sangwoo when he has been rejected, abused and almost killed by Sangwoo is unfair.
2. Bum is trying to survive. Bum doesnt have a home to go back to anymore, and based on how he was treated in the army he would never survive prison and he probably knows that. To survive what he has been through he has to betray Sangwoo. Even if Bum didnt betray him, Sangwoo would still go to prison.
3. During the fight between Seungbae and Sangwoo Bum was questioning his loyalty to Sangwoo. He stopped Sangwoo from stabbing Seungbae and when Sangwoo asked him to stab Bae he didnt do it. If it werent for Bum, Seungbae wouldnt be alive. If Sangwoo truly would’ve cared about Bum he wouldnt ask Bum to stab Bae and he wouldnt call Bum useless, after putting all that effort into trying to have a somewhat normal relationship with Bum. At the end of the day, Sangwoo can never be loyal to Bum the way Bum wants him to be, and Bum can never show loyalty to Sangwoo the way Sangwoo wants. They will never be compatible because they have different needs, expectations, boundaries and perspective on what is right or wrong.
