YES WTF??? The show borrowed so many elements from Chinese culture and art and tied it together by paying homage to Chinese culture by having Chinese characters who write in (real!) Chinese -- and then they scrapped all of that for a fake alien language.... now the universe is becoming a weird remix appropriation of Asia rather than this deep care and appreciation for Asian cultures. You used Asia to develop a storyline for yourself and then rewrote it as an exotic, alien culture that doesn't exist. It has merely taken all the "cool," "consumable" parts of Asia and chucked the rest. How is this different from the movie-that-does-not-exist using random squiggly lines in their title card (over the Chinese characters used in the show's title card)?

I don’t mind change, but I honestly don’t think the people at Avatar Studios know what they’re doing. I mean, you could make the argument that the original show using Chinese calligraphy as their writing system is problematic, but it’s already in the show and making up a new written language just to replace it seems even more problematic imo.

I just think we should be mindful of how snarkiness can impact someone's confidence and likelihood to keep pursuing their interests
