They really should have, right? With some smiley woman posing on the front cover of the fifth edition
you'd never listen to her if she said a word to you in real life
teeth like that meant your blood would be spilled half a million years ago.
The type of face the school looks at and says 'yes, very sensible'
in a structure like that with too little money and too many opinions
no one with any sense has the authority to say a word
no one with any authority has the sense to think that maybe they could be wrong.
Isn't it funny what they teach you?
They teach how to work with numbers.
They teach you what powers the cell.
They teach you how to play baseball.
They teach you why a metaphor is like a simile (and how they're not)
They don't teach you that you're not alone when your elbows get tingly and electricity spikes down your spine.
They don't teach you the roar in your ears is not the end of the world.
They don't teach you why you can love and hate the same person
They don't teach you how to let go.
But the truth is you wouldn't read it even if they wrote it
and even if you read it, you wouldn't listen to it
(the teachers forced you)
and even if you listened to it, you wouldn't believe it.
(you're just a kid, after all)
But if they had, maybe, just maybe
something in you would have eventually understood.
