seeing all the hcs of A is amazing. short hair, long hair, all different kinds of hair colors. shy and timid or a little cocky, sometimes aloof. ive seen them as both fem and masc. ive seen them be friends with B, have a romantic relationship with B, and hate/be afraid of B. many different reasons for them commiting. so many different mannerisms and quirks.

I don't mean to be argumentative (though I am), but the definition of "canon" in the context of fandom seems arbitrary and inconsistent to me.

You tell me that the novel isn't technically canon because it was written by someone else, even though it has the official seal... but a comment the author made in an interview, saying their character likes X thing even though we never saw any reference to it in the original work IS canon?

In my opinion, comments the author didn't consider relevant enough to include in the actual work shouldn't be considered part of the canon. Or, if not, should everything official be considered part of the canon because it's been approved by the author in some way? I don't know, I just know the criteria seem a bit inconsistent to me.

It's like saying, "This isn't canon, it's just a money grab, ignore it, but this random comment about the character's sexuality—a sexuality we never saw anything about in the story (it was irrelevant to this level?!)—is totally canon." When does the story begin and end? Why should I follow these rules? Who made them? Why can't they be questioned?

There are entire discussions about WHAT art is, but can't you disagree with this? Is it a cult?
