hi scary story time: sims 3 don
As a literal Ukrainian, seems accurate.
EARLY ACCESS ASSHOLES
PREFACE: I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I just feel this is a very serious issue that has been normalized in the Sims Community.
Important note: I know most of these creators only charge $1-$3, however, look how long this list is. If you pledge just $1 to everyone on this list it would be about $21/month. I've had months where I was paying over $50/month for CC which I definitely can't afford.
I know I have impulsivity issues, especially with money. I'm constantly working on improving this but it's hard to gauge the impact smaller charges will have over time which is why this Patreon shit is such an issue. As they say: "a frog in a pot slowly brought to boil doesn't realize he's being cooked."
SMALL CHARGES ADD UP. DON'T LET THESE CREATORS PRESSURE YOU INTO SPENDING MONEY IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT.

HOW MUCH YOU'RE PAYING : $21 USD
Again, I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I understand people get defensive of their income and I can definitely empathize with that.
I think I have a solution for this, wait until the early access is over and you're gonna end up spending 0 dollars 🙃
These people you tagged are within their rights to do early access for 2-3 weeks according to EA's TOU. And they all release their stuff FOR FREE after this period. Who the hell do you think you are to judge them for something they're legally allowed to do? As a law student, I won't tolerate this insolence. Get fecking lost, troll. P.S. If you’re not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, like you said, maybe you shouldn’t call people who act rightfully within their rights “assholes”.
Q&A with Duncan Rouleau
On Sunday, September 25th I was lucky enough to attend London Ontario Comic Con, where the people at Man of Action Entertainment had some tables set up! I asked Duncan Rouleau some questions (raw audio recordings) after he said it was alright to record and share the answers.
I’ve shuffled the order around so similar answers will be together.
The full transcript (minus any filler words) is here. Thanks to my good friend and plant @cloversion for helping me with the transcript!
Both M.Rex and Generator Rex had the theme “How do you raise somebody?” with “What you put in is what you get out” as part of it.
Even though Rex can’t be with his family of origin, he has a new/adopted family at Providence with Six as his dad, Holiday as his mom, and Bobo as his “evil Jiminy Cricket” weird uncle/drinking buddy.
Duncan thinks that they should’ve put LGBT+ themes in the show from the very first season, especially for a character like Rex where a lot of him was about identity. If they ever rebooted it, they’d put more LGBT+ representation in the show. [So…. absolutely implying Rex is LGBT+ right.]

Ben 10 (Original Series) vs Generator Rex
I want to make a comparison between these two series since they are both good but there are a few differences when it comes to writing that i believe made Generator Rex a better show than Ben 10.
Concept
Both shows have pretty interesting concepts:
Ben 10 is about a kid who finds a extremely powerful arctifact that allows him to turn into multiple aliens. The series explores this idea in many ways like showing aliens who are after the omnitrix and the origins of it.
Generator Rex’s concept is a post-apocalyptic world in which all humans are infected and can turn into EVO. The protagonist, Rex, is also a EVO himself and uses him powers to protect both humans and EVO.
Overall both shows have creative ideas but i think Generator Rex story is far more interesting. The worldbuilding is far more consistent. The plot is more intriguing as we don’t know too much about Rex’s past and how the Nanite accident happened.
Continuity
Ben 10 was pretty episodic, which itself is not a bad thing. The main problem is this often ruined continuity as there were characters that only appeared one episode and they were never mentioned again.
Generator Rex had better continuity, in my opinion. The series focuses more in the plot than Ben 10. The episodes that could be consider filler helped developing the characters and their relationships. Many of these ¨filler¨ episodes explored different concepts as well and help with the worldbuilding.
I think another issue was that Ben 10 didn’t have the best foreshadowing. There were story elements that would usually come up of nowhere. The biggest example of this was when Ghostfreak freed himself from the omnitrix. There wasn’t a explanation of why an clone alien wanted to escape and how they were supposed to have their own consciousness.
In Generator Rex what usually didn’t seem important in one episode It would become essential later in the story. Since the series spent more time in things like worldbuiling, showing how Rex powers worked or the origin of the nanite event the plot reveals felt less forced into the narrative.
Themes
Ben 10 tackled a few themes that you would expect from an animated series like growing up, what does mean to be a hero, family. Some episodes teached good lessons and one could notice Ben maturing in the story.
The thing is.. it wasn’t really that deep? That doesn’t mean it’s a bad but when you compare it to Generator Rex, it wasn’t as memorable as the latter. Generator Rex tackled themes like prejudice or how we treat someone because they are different. There was also the conflict between EVO and humans. You could understand why humans were scared of some EVO but at the same time there were EVO that weren’t completely evil and were friendly.
It also focused in your family doesn’t always has to be biological: The best example of this is when Rex starts letting go of his past because he knows he already has a family at Providence. It common for the series to teach that family can come from anywhere and doesn’t always has to be related.
Characters
I think both series had good character writing but I think Generator Rex did a better job when it came to the antagonists and some character arcs. Some antagonists were allowed to become good guys and the supposed ¨heroes¨ could became the villans themselves (see season 3 with Black Knight and Providence).
This aspect probably has to do with how Generator Rex was aimed to an older demographic than Ben 10. What’s more is that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where characters are forced to make certain choices they don’t like to survive.
Ben 10 morality was more ¨black and white¨: The villans were super evil and the protagonists were the heroes that save the innocent. Ben fits the role of the hero and it’s mainly his job in the original series and the sequels.
Another thing I want to point out is that Generator Rex had a better writing for its female characters. In the sense that they were allowed to have personality and not be only pretty face for the main protagonist.
——-
So, what do you think? Do you think that Generator Rex is better or that Ben 10 had better writing? What do you think of the two series?
I watched both shows countless times, and both are great in their own way. This is completely subjective, but as a person who appreciates realism, consistency and logical explanation of every single detail, Generator Rex wins for me hands down. It's more realistic and heavy plotwise and one of the most mature for a cartoon rated "for general audience". Also, as it was mentioned, I adore the fact that characters here are not purely black or white, unlike in Ben 10. Every single character in GR has their faults, INCLUDING the main protagonist. Heck, he was the head of a criminal gang at one point of his life. Overall, there’s a grey morality dominating in the show, and I love those vibes. ALSO also, character development! You can see throughout the show how the protagonist (and not only him) is working on his flaws and improving. That’s what makes this show close to a masterpiece.

My issue with Luz Noceda (The Owl House)
For those who have followed me for a while may already know that i like talking about The Owl House. It isn´t a show i talked about a lot but it’s still one in enjoy analysing.
Now,while The Owl House it’s a series i think is great there is one issue i have with the protagonist Luz Noceda: Her lack of real character flaws.
You see, Luz is a character that find enjoyable. She is funny, cute and a good person. She delivers some nice moments in the series and it’s hard to hate her. She has had decent character development since the Season One like opening up to other kids and learning to be more responsible.
My issue with her is that she appears to lack depth in comparison to the rest of the characters: King has his huge ego and insecurities, Amity has problems with her family, Willow lacked confidence, Eda and Lilith had their own conflict. What i mean is that Luz is overshadowed by the rest of the cast, who usually have more interesting conflicts going on than her.
I get it. Luz is the protagonist, that means that she has to be a good person and help everyone since she supposed to be the heroine. She is supposed to be easy for the audience to identify with.
Or does she have to be written this way?
This is when i talk about one of my favourite character protagonists, Rex Salazar from Generator Rex
For those who don’t know: Generator Rex was a series that aired in the early 2010´s. It was created by the company Man of Action. They are known for creating Ben 10 franchise too.
Generator Rex its set in a post-apocalyptic world were nanobots have invaded every living organism on Earth. A person is capable of turning into a mutant (E.V.O.) whenever they least expect. That´s when Providence comes in: They are in charge of controlling these dangerous mutants to protect the human population.
Rex Salazar is a human hybrid EVO that is capable of controlling the nanobots in his body to create gigantic metal robot body parts. He can also cure people or animals that have turn into EVO´s too.
Much like Luz Noceda, Rex Salazar is latino. He is both Mexican and Argentinian. His culture it´s important for his arc because he doesn´t have memories from where he came from and who his family is.
He is a very caring and selfless guy. He does what he does because he wants to help people. He is an empathic and nice guy.
But, on the other hand. he can be arrogant, very reckless, impulsive, doesn´t like following orders, can be a jerk and doesn´t think things through. He struggles a lot his not knowing his past. That makes him do certain risky choices to learn more about it.
Being a EVO hybrid, he stuck in this conflict between the EVO’s and humans. As the story goes on, Rex learns that EVO´s aren´t all bad and humans aren´t completely good either. There tons of episodes in the series that make Rex gain a new perspective on this conflict, understanding that its more complex that it seems.
What i´m trying to say it´s that Rex has a real character flaws. He changes a lot through out the series and does questionable things. He is a very interesting character. In comparison, Luz Noceda feels like she lacks this complexity that Rex has.
I could go a bit further and talk about other character i really like: Lilo Pelekai from Lilo and Stitich.
Lilo Pelekai lives in Hawaii. She isn´t latinx like Luz Noceda or Rex Salazar. I want to focus on her because she shares similarities with Luz Noceda: Both being POC girl characters protagonists of their own story and both are usually headcanoned to be neurodivergent by their respective fandom. They both have issues with fitting in with other kids too.
The difference is that Lilo struggles with understanding how Nani, her older sister, is trying to take care of her in the film and she sometimes does bad stuff like hitting Myrtle (its understable why she got angry at her) or not listening to Nani. She shows having PTSD symptoms that come from her parents´ death and she misses them a lot.
In Lilo and Stitch the series (yes, there is a series) Lilo sometimes does bad things to impress others. Like many kids at her age she can be reckless, selfish and impulsive. I think she is allowed to have more flaws than Luz has while still being a very nice girl.
In conclusion: Luz Noceda´s main problem is that she lacks real flaws unlike other The Owl House characters. This isn´t exclusive of Luz, some animated shows struggle with having interesting main protagonists too. I compare her to other characters (POC) that i think have more depth than she has.
The Owl House isn´t over yet, there is chance this may change in future episodes. We haven´t seen Luz confronting Camila about having lied to her and getting stuck in the Boiling Isles. There is hope for her character yet.
Note: If anyone wants to make a response to this post with another post talking about Luz Noceda´s character flaws and her development, you can tag me in your post and i´ll read it.
Tbh, I didn’t know about The Owl house until now, so I can’t say anything about that show. But I do know the other two, both are in my list of favourites for that exact reason you’ve mentioned - they’re not all perfect characters with lack of flaws solely because they’re “protagonists”. Protagonists are still human beings (or intellectual creatures, depending on context) that are flawed by their nature. And whatever the plot is in any show, be it strict realistic world with same state borders and the same figures on presidential seats, or be it a parallel dimension with magic, unicorns and chupacabras - we, as an audience, as human beings, still appreciate realism in people’s characters and in their actions. We read, watch, play games or whatever about people who have to work on something, to withess their development in learning to outcome future difficulties and obstacles AND to work on their flaws, to strive to be a better person. Otherwise, witnessing people that are already capable of doing anything with little to no effort and that they don’t have to overcome their flaws and imperfections is just straight up boring, and most importantly - you can’t even remotely relate to the protagonist, you can’t feel connection with them. Therefore, the whole meaning of whatever composition you’re looking at is lost.
Good, interesting, original and consistent plot with characters that have yet to develop, overcome difficulties and improve as individuals - that’s what makes any composition great.
Also, for the love of God, whoever sees this, watch Generator Rex. It’s one of the most mature and realistic cartoons (that’s rated “G”) out there. And it’s so unapologetically underrated.
Lilo and Stitch is also “must watch”.
@picturejasper20 I know I’m just a random girl replying out of nowhere, but I just had to, seeing a person who has such a *chef’s kiss* good taste in shows. I hope you don’t mind. :3 Also, pardon my potential grammar errors, not my native language.
I don’t mind at all! Honestly, this is one of the best responses i have got in a while.
One thing i´d like to add is that you can have a protagonist that doesn´t develop too much. It´s called ¨flat character arc¨. Wander from Wander Over Yonder falls in this category. He isn´t defined for changing in the series. He helps other characters to change and become their better selves. However, Wander still has some flaws and is a very entertaining character.
While i think the The Owl House writers are trying to do something similar with Luz- the issue is that she fails to be as funny and entertaining as Wander. Another problem is that The Owl House´s narrative is supposed to be like Gravity Falls but Luz lacks those real flaws that Dipper and Mabel have.
Some people have pointed out that may change in the following episodes, so, i would like to wait and see if the series has something prepared for this character.
Oh yeah, I remember Wander. And yes, you're right, he's happy outgoing guy with positive approach and helps people to be positive as well and brings the best of them. And that's still a work to do - it also can be defined as "working on yourself", except he doesn't work on himself, but on others. So there are, even if not literally, some obstacles for him to overcome.
Also (I've read about it a lil bit, ngl), flat character arc usually contains a "test" that opposes the "truth that has been already figured out in the beginning" of the protagonist. And in case of Wander Over Yonder we can see that example - if I remember correctly, there's an empire ruled by some guy-tyrant (forgot the name), who wants to conquer the universe (figures), and, ofc, his "subjects" don't have a great time under his control, meaning that's a "test", an opposition to Wander's happy-go-lucky approach, as in the "truth". So yeah, I can definitely see that as an obstacle for Wander to overcome as well.
About The Owl House - guess, I have to watch that now. But I really doubt that anything can reach the level of Gravity Falls - it's one of a kind. *chef's kiss* Star vs the forces of evil kinda gave the similar vibes as GF at the beginning, but then... The ending was kinda rushed and crumpled, to say the least, meh.

“chuffed doesnt mean what you think it means”
it means exactly what i think it means its just some stupid word that literally has two definitions that mean the opposite thing
what the hell
This makes me really chuffed
This post is quite egregious
Well I’m nonplussed by this whole post.
goddamnit.
all of you go to hell
And you wonder why i am boggled at times
These are called contronyms! A word that is its own opposite.
Why the fuck do these exist
One theory is that the sarcastic use of the word became exceedingly prevalent and because another dictionary definition.
Are you telling me that we were such sarcastic shits it literally changed our language.
Literally is another example now.
This is why I have a love-hate relationship with English
