They Say It's Haunted || Alec & Violet
"Sounds like a rough gig, man." Violet wanted to care, she used to care once upon a midnight dreary but now it seemed all she had was regrets and wasted time in her own personal purgatory locked within Los Angeles suburbia — this really must be hell. Listening to him, more or less lingering on his every word and chosen tone as he spilled pieces of his wayward story to her and she wondered if he was just very open or if he just didn’t have anyone else to talk to so when he got the chance it all just sort of came spilling out, she sure as hell knew that feeling. "Knowing this fucked up place, you’re going to be waiting until her funeral before they let you see her." Sure, that sounded harsh but Violet was never the sort who laced anything with sugar for the sake of sparing someone the truth. The world was so full of bullshit that no one was ever honest with someone, too afraid of being politically incorrect or some shit, to just say how they felt or tell the truth — she sure as fuck knew what it felt like to be surrounded by liars. "Sorry, it’s true. The staff here is fucked. They try to keep anyone who can do anything out so they can conduct their ‘treatments’ or whatever on the people here, it’s way shitty." A light shrug of her small shoulders was given before her expression and her tones softened in a rare show of actual sympathy. "I’m sorry…" The words almost perished on her lips before they could fall between them.
Her words had hit him. Hard. Alec knew right from day one of her hospitalization that this place was beyond shady, but now this girl — this complete stranger was pouring salt in his wounds and making everything so real. He swallowed down the forming lump in his throat as he thought over the fact that Yuki was in here most likely being treated like utter shit because of him and his stupid decision to admit her to this location. Of all the nut houses. "No, don't apologize — I'd rather know the truth, even if it is completely fucked up, than not know at all and be entirely oblivious." The pads of his fingers rubbed anxiously at his forehead then down his face as he tried to avert eye contact with this girl. He didn't know her, or her situation. Hell, she could have been insane for all he knew, but still, here he was having such a wonderful little chat. If the nurses found out he was conversing with a patient without permission, they'd probably revoke his visitation rights entirely. Of course, it's not like Alec was aware of the fact that little Violet Harmon had been dead for years. "I — I take it you're a patient? I mean, you completely know about all the BS, so..." He made a shrug of his broad shoulders. "It must really suck here."
She wasn’t startled at the fact that he noticed her prolonged observations. She wasn’t even offended by his choice of words—though she had no reason to be anyway. She was the one staring. Not him. There was no way of helping herself though. She had been trying to figure him out. He didn’t seem like the others. “No, not always. Just when my interest is captured. Are you a visitor?”
"I'm not exactly interesting, y'know. You'll have to excuse me if I still find it a little weird." The youth attempted to not sound like a total jerk, but she had made him undeniably uncomfortable. He never appreciated being stared at — especially the way she had done so. "But whatever. Yeah, I'm a visitor. Did you make little deductions while you were staring?"

"Jeeze, you need to relax." The dearly departed teenager quipped in her usual acerbic tones which were sprinkled with mild amusement that she had scared him — perhaps she wasn’t so lousy at this whole ghost things as much as she thought. Or perhaps this place, oh and didn’t she know it, radiated with a foreboding sense of darkness and mental instability that would make just about anyone uneasy. So many damned stepped through those stained glass-graced doors and so many more never wandered haplessly back out again. She would never fucking understand how people could be so stupid. It was the reason the world was filled with warning labels instead of common sense. Even those who were very well aware of this place’s blood-soaked reputation still came here and even worse, made it into a hospital which were already terrible and creepy within themselves. Daring to walk a bit closer to him as she quirked one of her brows and rested a hand on the intricately-carved banister once she was close enough. Idly picking at the lacquer there as she studied him, deduced him as if she were Sherlock-fucking-Holmes or something because what more could the dead do than watch the living? "This isn’t a waiting room, you know." She continued. "Who or what’re you waiting for anyway, hm?" Still such a haplessly curious little kitten even though she should have learned her lesson long ago — whatever, it’s not like anything could hurt her anymore, she did that all on her own. Just another stupid teenage cliche.
His hands motioned mockingly with a dip of his head just as she told him to calm down. He probably wouldn't have been so caught off guard by her presence had he not been so fixated on the silence and room alike, so if anything, this was definitely his own fault. With a slightly exasperated sigh, he settled the iPod down to his side figuring it'd be rude to listen to it now. The house had a tendency of putting his nerves on edge. He tried to conceal the fear, mostly by going off to one of the less busy rooms but this girl had managed to catch him off guard. He licked his lips before returning his gaze to her — a nervous quirk he had allowed to become a habit. He'd been visiting for quite some time now, and had never seen her before. Maybe she was new or something, who knew? "Yeah, I know, but it's the only room I'm allowed in where the nurses don't linger. A few pass by, but that's about it." He shrugged. "— and I'm waiting for visitation rights, if I ever get them, that is. I have a uh, a friend in here, and the nurses give me a hard time considering I'm not exactly family. Thing is, her parents are locked up and she has no siblings, so that leaves me, and now we're back to square one." He chuckled wryly as a thumb brushed over his lips — yet another nervous tick. He was full of them of course. He only had so many years of discomfort and worrying to build them up.
disorientxd
It was like he could feel her cold stare piercing through his soul as he stood in the backyard, leaned casually against the aged brick exterior of the house. He knew that when it came to the patients, one should tread carefully, but it was beginning to bother him. "Y'know," He nearly sighed as his gaze tugged itself left until they met with the stranger who found an odd way to occupy herself. "The whole staring thing is sort of creepy. Do you always do that?"
Tilting her head to the side like a child, Noelle let her inner ten-year-old show, curiosity evident just by looking at her posture. She found her body leaning up against the doorway, her shoulder and arm resting comfortably against the neatly done crown molding. Her eyes looked up and down at her opposite, not even trying to hide the fact that her eyes were making mental images of him and observing his every move. She must have looked so odd, a tall brunette female at her age, observing and watching just like a child would. At the mention of a mute and the small and nervous smile that quickly followed the question, she unknowingly and instinctively raised her brows at him, wondering if he was always so straightforward or if it was the lack of conversation that forced him to ask the question. The girl shook her head, brows still raised. “I am perfectly capable of speech. Just selective with whom and when,” She replied, trying to explain her silence by using as little words as possible.
He was a bit taken aback once she finally did speak. It was obvious she didn't want to talk, much less to the likes of him, and of course he didn't blame the girl, but even so. His curiosity still lingered around the fact that she went back and forth between wherever she was prior to this bizarre exchange, and the foyer. His brows furrowed briefly as she remained in his confused stare. Of course, he hadn't known that she wasn't a patient. "Oh, I uh..." Awkward pause. This was definitely uncomfortable. Painful even. "I take it now isn't one of those times, and I'm not one of those people?" Plain and simple. It was laughable how blunt he was being, but it probably had a lot to do with how out of place he felt in this conversation. She seemed decent enough. Odds were it probably just wasn't her day — maybe even week. Who knew.
They Say It's Haunted || Alec & Violet
petals-and-pills
There was always a strange air about in that small foyer that seemed to set off Alec. It forced a sense of discomfort to crawl up his spine, though for some reason it was the room he spent the most time in. There he sat right at the bottom of the staircase, as per usual — arms crossed, resting casually over his knees. He spent the majority of his visitations at the hospital waiting. At first it bothered him, but now it came naturally. His eyes would study every inch of the small room, and at this point he memorized the chips in the wooden panels of the doorways, the faint scratch marks on the floor, and even figured out which of the floorboards creaked more than others. There were moments when he thought he was losing it — that maybe the madness was rubbing off on him, but given some thought, it always concluded to boredom. He began to lazily pull his iPod from his backpack, but stopped once he noticed a shadow a few steps higher. "Jesus!" He spoke, nearly jumping from his spot. "You scared the shit out of me. How long have you been there?"
How long had it been? How long had it been since Noelle dared to leave the basement, wanting to be seen? She wasn’t sure, actually. It was all a rarity and Noelle felt awkward being in a place so bright and sunny, a few nurses and patients passing her by with light smiles or dull, dead faces. She hated being there. She hated being in that house, stuck with so many broken people. There wasn’t a day when Noelle didn’t think about the what if’s of her life, constantly pondering on whether or not it would have ended better had she run away. But what she had still yet to come to terms with was the fact that she was dead, and evidently stuck in the house. It was a waste of time to even think about life outside of the house or what potential it could have had. She was nothing bust dust, living in the shadows and rarely ever getting in the way of anyone. She was invisible. Carefully, peeking into the room, the girl noticed a lanky brown-haired boy. Gingerly, she stepped into the foyer, but seconds later, stepped back out. People made her nervous. Human interaction made her nervous. She was never good at it and for a second, she thought about fading away and going back into the basement. But then she heard his voice call to her, asking if she was okay. Averting eye contact then stepping back into the area, she nodded her head slightly, not saying anything.
The silence had become unnerving only after a moment of having been enveloped. He would have been satisfied with a one worded response, or even the rudest of sorts, but nothing? That made things uncomfortable. He didn't know her though — not her story or her status among the living or the deceased. His thumbs pressed together awkwardly as he contemplated what to do or say even. It only took him a few seconds to resign in a sluggish motion of his hands. "Or, y'know I can leave. I mean, I don't want to bother you, if that's what I'm doing." Granted, he was used to basking in silences with Yuki. Most of their car rides before having come to California had moments like that, and not once did he blame her for it given her situation. But this was different. "Wait you're not actually incapable of speaking, are you? Like, mute?" Cue the nervous smile in hopes to make that seem less rude.
Of course being at The Murder House, or should I say (L.A. Private Regional Hospital) was always strange and unbecoming to Alec — not so much because of the patients, but because of the nurses and their apparent dislike for him. Rather than being around them, he chose to wait at the bottom of the staircase and watch the peculiar behavior of some of the patients as they happened by. He never judged, but this one seemed to be uncertain on multiple occassions of whether or not they actually wanted to enter the foyer. His hues hovered over them until finally his lips parted to speak, "Are you okay? I'm the only one in here y'know. I don't bite."
Meet Alec Beaumont, he is twenty-two years old and a visitor to the Murder House Hospital. He was born Febury 27th 1996, and he is living..
❝She’s all that I’ve got. I need her to be okay.❞

↳ EVERYONE'S GOT A STORY, WHAT'S YOURS?:
For as long as he could remember, Alec had never known trauma. Though his mother passed away while giving birth to him, the event itself did not seem to have an effect on him besides the obvious lack of motherly love. His father had done a phenomenal job of raising his son to the best of his potential, and there wasn’t a day that went by in which Alec didn’t appreciate his dad. It was at the age of nine that they had to move to Utah due to his father’s work. It was then that he’d begin to witness how cruel society could be.
He met a girl not a year younger than he was, named Yuki Himura. Her kindness and sense of care made him quite fond of her almost instantaneously. She didn’t have any other friends beside himself, and though it baffled him at times, he never truly complained. They were neighbors, and he visited her frequently. Upon meeting her parents, he was able to understand that they were relatively strict, and more importantly, unhappy with their own lives. He never could comprehend what went on behind closed doors when he left, for the fact that he was still so young and naive. When he turned sixteen, Harper invited him over for their own little celebration. She had brought him up to her room, and after an awkward discussion (mostly due to the strangeness of the topic), they both agreed that they’d be each other’s firsts for everything they could manage because they shared a mutual like for one another. They began to share a kiss, but were interrupted by her mother, whom was not pleased to see that she had been kissing a boy in her room. She asked him to leave, and as soon as he walked out the door, he could already hear the physical impact of the harsh slaps her mother had to offer.
Things had managed to take a turn for the worse as he became more observant after the incident. At night, he was able to hear screams from next door that he knew for a fact was his dearest friend. Once when he was at the age of twenty-one, they had come back particularly late from a hang out. Her father had been waiting up, and there was not a shred of happiness on his expression. Her short lived joy soon faded as she walked inside in her home. The next day, he had gone over to visit, but was told that she was sent away to her aunt in Arizona for behavior treatment. Crushed as he was, he was still glad that she wouldn’t have to deal with her parents. This lasted for a month, up until one night, he heard the same screams that tormented him so many nights before. He knew that she was still there, and he had to do something.
One day while her parents took off, he snuck in through a window. He searched everywhere for the girl, and finally managed to find her at a grave state locked away in the basement. She had worn the same clothes the night he last saw her, though they were dingy and torn. Her body was lifeless, and it broke him. He quickly carried her out, put her in his car, and drove off as far as he could. After a visit to the hospital for obvious reasons, they immediately hit the road. The two never really stopped traveling, and eventually, they ended up in Los Angeles, California a year later. The trauma never left the girl though. He would worry about her, due to her constant nightmares and insomnia that came along. Once she turned to alcohol to soothe the pain, that was it. He checked her in to the nearest hospital in hopes that she’d shape up, and unfortunately, that was The Murder House.
↳ DON'T BE SURPRISED, WHEN THEY'RE:
Though Alec at times is often sarcastic (which can be confused with rudeness) it’s only because he spent the majority of his childhood with one person only. This kept him from learning how to socialize with others, yet even then, underneath his humorously acrimonious demeanor, he’s completely caring and protective. Especially toward Yuki.
↳ YOU SURE YOU WANNA BE ALONE? THEY SAY THIS HOUSE IS HAUNTED:
YUKI HIMURA→ Yuki has been the only friend he has ever really known. Though he has had several before and after upon meeting her, she has been the only one to form such a deep relationship with the boy. He cares for her, and though he is also in love with the girl, he puts off getting into a romantic relationship with her because of her instability and her addiction to alcohol. Despite all that, he refuses to ever leave her.
BRIGITTE O’CALLAGHAN→ The girl’s lack of self-confidence made it difficult to strike conversations with her, however, through his persistence, he managed to bring his way to the core of her trust. They often spend time together when he’s not with Yuki, and he’ll go to her for advice when he desperately needs so.
HAYDEN MCCLAINE→ After she had made several advances toward Alec, and at one point, threatened to stab him, he began to grow a strong dislike toward the girl. He distrusts her for the fact that in her threats, she has mentioned Yuki (mainly all talk and no play) and that hasn’t flown well with him. He despises her manipulation in order to get what she wants, and avoids her at all costs.

"My loyal sidekicks? I like that. I’m gonna make that a thing." Raising her brow slightly, she set her share of books down. The thin layer of dust upon them made her face contort in disgust, almost immediately wiping it off before sorting them into the equally as dusty bookshelf. "Flynn’s.. wherever, and Silas is lurking around the house somewhere. Probably indulging himself with one of the patients stories. He gets distracted easily." Sarcasm lingered within her words, and she continued to press on the subject of the friends they knew of. Or at least, the friends she had heard of. "How’s Harper?"
"Some of the patients are pretty interesting though—I'll give him that much." He managed a smirk as he shook his head in regards to Silas. He had only crossed her friend a few times, but never gave the time to interact with him. He was cautious to who he spoke to, especially after his run-in with Dr. Whitlocke. "Harper...?" The name forced his smile to fade, but he tried to keep himself together as he went back for more books. Their relationship had been complex as of late due to the troubles of her alcoholism. Not only that, but the nurses often gave him trouble when he would come to see her and more often, he wouldn't be able to at all. "Hard to say, actually. I haven't seen her in the while. The nurses say it's not good for her." He shrugged simply, but his demeanor altered visibly.
"Working?" Stephanie asked rhetorically as her eyes lit up at the thought. "What’s that like? I’ve never really had a job before, so it’s still a bit of a foreign concept to me." She confessed with little to no embarrassment. Of course back in her time, all she did was mess around. Maybe if she had gotten her act together, she’d still be alive today. Regardless though, the idea of having a job struck her spirit, as it was something people commonly did and just hearing about it, even if for a moment made her feel a little less dead.
"Seriously?" Chuckling, he eyed the brunette quizzically as he processed her excitement toward his working. He had never met anyone who honestly enjoyed the concept of working, but he quickly excused her with the fact that she had been dead for thirty-some odd years. "Alright, I'll bite. It's okay I s'pose. I mean, a job is a job if I'm just trying to get by. I'm not really asking for much either. Just enough to pay for Harper's bills." His shoulder shrugged casually following up to his words. "But the actual work is pretty basic. I sit there and scan books. Check the records and update them. That's pretty much all."
"See, now you’re getting the hang of it." A tone of satisfaction was evident in the girls tone, her fondness of the additional nickname causing her smile to grow. Eyes scanned the room, making sure that all astray books were collected, which they were. Her heels began to click against the wooden floorboards, lifting her eyes to be. "Well," she began, adjusting the position of the books within her hands. "You could help me organize these books in one of the empty bookshelves, that would help.. and then I might consider letting you go." Her smirk continued once more, rocking back on the heels upon her feet.
Modest laughter escaped him in reply to all her playful words. Yes, this was much definitely more entertaining than sitting in the living room, being chewed out by the nurses for just breathing. His head allowed one short nod as he glanced toward the unsorted books. "Alright. Fair enough. Even if it is just a consideration that you're offering me in return." Before his hand could reach for an armful of books, he turned to her with a smirk that matched her own. "Hey, where are your loyal sidekicks anyway? Don't they usually follow you everywhere? I could scold them for making me take their place." His teasing tones returned while he began to sort the books onto shelves.
A soft giggle was sounded as the girl dipped her head down in attempt to hide her still pink tinted cheeks. Beck really did that? She had no idea… Sure, he came right out and told her that he had feelings for her—but even still it seemed to unreal to her. It seemed like forever that she had kept her feelings about the boy a secret for not wanting to potentially ruin their friendship. Now though everything was out in the open. “You think? That’s just..” Her sentence trailed off as she shook her head and let out another small laugh. Eventually her feet had taken her to where they needed to be, the brunette now set her box down on the white table.
His lips curved into another smile as he followed behind the brunette and set the box down carefully with a crouch. Alec wasn't necessarily that close to Beck, much less Juliette, but the two were good people. It was upsetting how difficult that was to find in anyone these days. "I take it that makes you happy." He grinned, coming back to a stand as his hands stuffed themselves in his pockets. "Don't tell him I said that though. He'll probably see to it that I live out the rest of my life in his very own exact replica of hell."
"Oh no! Don’t do that. I’m sure you have living, breathing friends in here who need a sandwich much more than this old hag." She laughed as her head shook, causing her chestnut locks to slip off her shoulders. "Especially with the food they’ve got here. Poor things." After a moment longer, the brunette placed the sandwich back in its container and settled it down in her lap as she wiped her hands together. She was glad Alec was here. His company had began to offer her mind ease. "So what have you been doing outside of here?"
"Hey, it can't be that bad. I hear the mac and cheese is decent." He joked lightheartedly. It was difficult to answer her question straight forward. His hands clasped together, arms resting on knees as he considered the thought. He didn't honestly do much outside of the hospital, aside from the part-time job he managed to pick up at the library a few minutes away. The youth cleared his throat, trying his best not to seem too put off by her question and replied, "A bit of this, a bit of that. I started working finally. I felt bad for letting my dad pay for Harper, so I thought it was the least I could do."
"Uh-huh, those ones right there." The mischievous glint in her eye returned once more, she had been rather… distant from those in the house lately. It had simply been too long for her to handle, so she took a much needed break. It proved to be beneficial, obviously. "I said the chances of me hitting would decrease, and I wouldn’t smack you immediately." Her tone mimicked his to a point, her gaze lifting to his. "You helped me, I almost owe you— so, no immediate smacking will occur. It may happen in the future, you never know.”
"Alright, alright. I'm bringing you a step ladder next time though." A playful roll of his eyes followed suit to her mimic, and he reached up for the books, pulling them down effortlessly into his arms. "Here you go, your highness. What else do you need? I guess I won't mind slaving around if it keeps me occupied for a while as opposed to sitting in the living room." Despite all the sarcastic tones coating his words, he did strongly prefer Abby's company rather than the nurses.
