I REALLY want a Leroux Erik who is a walking skelly man with a horrible FULL face (and body) of hideousness but with the angelic voice that drips with sex. When you HEAR him, you can't help but fall in love with this Angel of Music. You can understand why Christine is under his spell and gives her soul to him.
I want to see that contrast of gorgeous voice attached to ugliness.
I want Erik to be obsessed, haunted, maniacal, murderous, sinister, funny (yes, he is a hoot), mysterious, heart-broken, tender, musical genius (he doesn't have to be a master of everything like Kay's book), sexual/sensual, pitiful, and loving but manages to contradict everything he is. I need a conundrum Erik who is hideous, terrifying yet you can't help but love him in his madness and pity him in the end when he does the right thing, despite all that he wants, and lets the woman he loves go, satisfied with her simple kindness to him.
And I want the damn Perisan back, too.
Absolutely agree
