It was a vicious circle between the two; back and forth in their relationship with the arguments then the making up - then all over again. Sometimes his friends would make bets on how long the two would be together, or how long they were be ‘broken-up’ before they’d get back together. Placing his hands on his legs, the man offered her a shrug. “I’ve been doing okay,” he confessed. “Working a lot to take up my time.” And that’s how it always was; the other partners at the law firm knew when Marcel and Alena were separated; when Marcel would be pulling overnighters in the office and working harder than he normally did. “I’m sure its the same for you, right? Just working more and getting through the day.”
Alena didn’t like the arguing nature of their relationship. Nor the fact that half the time she was at fault for things escalating. Her chalking it up to knowing what she did and didn’t want and being done if the latter won out. But why she ever really done with him? A question that had plagued her every day since walking out of his place after their fight. The little voice in her head was saying no. After all here she stood still talking to him when most people would have walked away from their ex. Her eyes fixated on the ground as she nodded a long with his words. “Yeah I know how you get when it comes to work.“ She pointed out, looking up at him again. Alena could stop herself from full on arguing however sly comments weren’t out of the question. “It is. I’ve joked the hospital was holding me hostage but truth is I wanted to be there. Idle hands and all that shit.”
