Mika at Wired Next Fest 2018
Interview at Wired Next Fest 2018 in Florence.
45 minutes interview in italian: https://www.facebook.com/wireditalia/videos/155709895368996/
Main topics covered:
- new technologies are making it easier to make music, however there is a risk for over doing it; for his album, lots of layers are created and then subsequently removed
- his new album will be happy and very pop, but very personal and truthful; Mika mentioned that some topics in the album have never been discussed, not even in interviews.
- his neighbour’s olive trees have a disease (xilella) so he is preparing to cut the trees as soon as the disease starts transferring to his garden. He also tested 7 different types of wood to see which one burns best in his fireplace: turns out, it’s oak. (random I know, but very Mika!)
- Lastly, Mika sang “Billy Brown”, with a commentary about how this song was about a past boyfriend of his sister Yasmine; he knew the boy was gay as he saw himself in him, so wrote the song; it was not meant as a mean song, rather as a reckoning that faking your real identity is not a good plan. He spoke about it with tenderness.
The album should be out in 2019 :)
