best case scenario Digital Circus gets remembered in a similar way as Steven Universe: a show that was Really Fucking Good and had nuanced characters and interesting things to say, but the audience wasn't quite ready for it and it imploded into a discourse ball. four years from now I expect to see lesbians drawing Jax like she's a renaissance muse the same way people still draw Pearl or Lapis
once again i am questioning why stella and striker are homophobes and are never included in pride merch, while pretty much every other villain in the show is some form of queer (the vees, crimson, andrealphus) or, a straight ally (adam).
i can kinda understand making stella a homophobe but it isn't really conveyed in her writing and i REALLY don't get why striker is a homophobe because he would be perfect ace-spec representation of some kind (he is heavily implied to be sex repulse or autosexual, imo).
tbh, it doesn't even make sense for the hellborns, of all character types, to be homophobic. angels i would understand because of the whole "christians against gays" thing. sinners i would understand; it makes sense many would carry the homophobic beliefs of their upbringing/time period over to hell. how and why is homophobia even a thing for hellborns?? especially when so many of them are queer to begin with??
if there were more homophobic villains in the show i don't think it would be as odd. but with characters like vox and crimson (characters who periodically and trope-wise have every reason to be homophobic) not being homophobes and literally no one other than stella and striker being stated as such, i question why exactly they're homophobes. does vivienne just not want them in pride merch for some reason??
note: i am NOT pro-homophobia!!! this post is not to say the show should promote homophobia!!! it is to say that the two homophobes in the show SHOULDN'T be, because it feels like a claim made only to avoid putting them in one of the show's most profitable merch lines!!!
How did you get so many things wrong????
Like? Genuinely curious as to what you think is objectively wrong here. Striker and Stella are confirmed homophobes. Vivienne said that's why they're never in any Pride merch. So that's true.
Every other villain in the show is on the queer/LGBTQ+ spectrum. Very easy to check yourself.
Everything else is me explaining my opinions of why Stella and Striker being homophobes feels odd and out of place with the show to me, and seeking clarity on why the two of them, of all characters, were chosen as the homophobic ones when characters who would make more sense as homophobes both lore-wise and portrayal-wise are just completely cool with the communities.
If you don't like what I have to say you're free to block me or otherwise disengage. This is the second time you've reblogged one of my posts with a vaguely critical comment with no attempt at actual conversation or elaboration and I get the feeling you're just trying to nitpick my complaints because you're a fan of the show.
The only confirmation we have from someone (not Viv) is that Striker and Stella don't like going to parades because they are extremely loud. https://x.com/sophfandoms53/status/2060476646361080159
This is true, however you forgot that Crimson is homophobic and you said that he is queer (no proof for this)
Stella's brother is gay, she doesn't seem to hate him for being gay, she just dislikes the way he treats her (read: criticism against her bad decisions) and Striker is just tired of people constantly mentioning sex jokes in moments where they shouldn't even be mentioning them.
I am sorry.
I can no longer find the tweet where Vivienne aid Stella and Striker are homophobic. It was most likely deleted after backlash (something that isn't new for Vivziepop) because I remember the discourse surrounding it and I remember seeing the tweet myself.
Crimson is NOT homophobic. He literally had a "congrats you're gay" session for Moxxie in the episode he first appeared in. Is he ignorant? Yes. He has a stereotypical view of sexuality, seeming to only be able to distinguish gay from straight, but there is no showing of him having any issue with Moxxie (or anyone else) over his sexuality nor was anything ever said about him being a homophobe.
I did mistakenly call Crimson queer; upon double-checking he has not been listed as having any sexuality. That I admit I was wrong about.
To your last point, having queer family members sadly does not stop people from being homophobic, the same way being queer doesn't automatically make you an ally. I'm not saying I personally think Stella nor Striker are written as homophobic, as I explained in the parent post. My question is why it was ever stated that these two were, and why they haven't been included in any Pride Merch drops if they aren't.
And, thank you for apologizing.
Basically nothing.
Yeah you are not really convincing me with that, the guy wanted Moxxie to marrie Chaz because the latter is rich, he didn't actually care to understand that Moxxie is bisexual and constantly called him gay and thinks all gay people are fixated on dicks, which is why he bought and put many dicks across the whole place.
I honestly don't think his hate overcomes his greed, if he could make money by marrying something he hates, his greed will be above the hate.
They are already have a reason to not be there, and that is "they just don't like the parades" and that's it.
Lute however...yeah she is probably homophobic i can't find any good excuse for her.

i hate when media wants to have shock humor so bad but is too afraid to say anything actually shocking or anything that could be offensive so it just comes off as sanitized
People who can't engange properly in the internet and will threatened you if you disagree with them should die (something like this?)
i've heard complaints that barbie wire and kendra didn't get any merch... what's up with that? one of the few wlw couples in the show and they weren't included? um??
A bit more of sincerity won't be a problem...or probably it will be

Stop saying Jax has intrusive thoughts. The show does not communicate this at all, and he literally acts out his so called "intrusive thoughts". He's violent both on screen and off. He blackmails Gangle with whatever she did with a figurine, information he got by breaking into her room, and also brings it up to degrade an embarress her in front of the others. Sorry not sorry, but I'd argue he's is committing some sort of sex crime here. Thus those moments in his mindscape are not intrusive thoughts?!?! Now, could he have impulsive thoughts? Maybe, but he most certainly does not have intrusive thoughts.
i'm a person who actually has severe obsessive compulsive disorder and intrusive thoughts that stem from the disorder, and from what i can see, jax does NOT have intrusive thoughts at all. intrusive thoughts are supposed to be ego dystonic, meaning they conflict with your personal morals and values. anyone who actually suffers from ocd does NOT WANT TO ACT ON THESE THOUGHTS. BECAUSE THEY ARE INTRUSIVE. meanwhile, jax seems perfectly content to act on his evil thoughts throughout the series.
if jax actually had intrusive thoughts about harming women, he wouldn't actually be harming women in the circus, and instead would be ruminating over harming women and doing compulsions in an attempt to stop the thoughts about harming women from even existing in his mind. there are plenty of people with ocd who suffer with harm and misogyny themes. i've met them! it can be incredibly damaging to your psyche to deal with a constant barrage of intrusive violent misogynistic imagery in your brain that you can't control, and often times you can't even talk to other people about it because the thoughts are so disturbing, and people without any understanding of the disorder might think you're evil for having the thoughts
i think that this misuse of language used to describe symptoms of a mental illness is genuinely harmful. if everyone has intrusive thoughts, if 'intrusive thoughts' is watered down to mean funnygoofy randomly weird thoughts, or even, disturbingly, your own violent bigoted impulses that you enjoy, what language do people with ocd have to describe their experiences? i for certain don't want to be lumped in with actual misogynists who enjoy harming women, what the fuck!
it pisses me off when people use the term 'intrusive thoughts' so flippantly because it just erases the real experiences and suffering of people who actually have this often life-ruining mental disorder
It feels like you want to cut yourself, burn yourself, throw yourself from a sky high building, drown yourself or hang yourself, every time you have those bad thoughts that you hate and you hate yourself.
at least this is how i feel about my own thoughts...HATE
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
i think if Hazbin really wanted to play with the idea of 'Christian hypocrisy' and criticism of the religion in general, then they should've shown sinners who were like, prosperity preachers, grifting televangelists, those who used their faith to justify cruelty and bigotry, etc.
honestly i think Vox should've been a prosperity preacher and not a weatherman turned serial killer (but he could be a weather man turned prosperity preacher too); it would give him a great excuse to want to take over heaven too, as he'd feel like he was owed an afterlife of paradise because he 'believed in God and the Bible', and not even caring to stop and think that his actions were what truly denied him heaven
Don't think that was the idea.
no, it clearly wasn't the idea, but it would've been way more interesting than having another serial killer backstory
I am talking about the hypocrasy
oh
well, in that case i guess im not sure what Hazbin's even trying to say about Christianity
is it trying to say its bad? good? does it have nothing to say about the religion? having nothing to say would be a really weird choice if the story's going to be borrowing so much from the religion and also be about redemption
I don't think it was trying to say something about Christianity in particular.
Yeah, I Would Say This Makes Her A Wuss Who Can't Put Her Money Where It Matters
It really should be a case of trope being deconstructed and shown how harmful it is you have the power to help people but are obsessed with looking nice rather than being good.
Charlie can't break a soul deal, she is a pacifist so she won't kill other people out of the whims.
Also it is never made a issue that she needs to solve the caste system in Helluva Boss, so that doesn't matter (unless you count it has fridge horror or something)
