alex had to resist the urge to roll his eyes. “yeah, yeah, i get it, karma’s a bitch,” he sneered, “that doesn’t change the fact that i don’t believe in it. there’s no such thing as negative energy. my molecular build is different to that of a normal human, and somehow that allows the atoms in me to behave differently. i’m sure there’s a way to explain it, b, but i’m not keen on letting some scientist take me apart to find out.” he knew he was being stubborn, and in all honesty, bianca didn’t deserve his anger. but it was based in fear- alex was terrified when he couldn’t control what happened with the flames only a little while ago, and the way he dealt with those emotions was through his anger. “see, chemistry makes sense. your belief in the cosmo does not.”

if there was one person in hollowcrest that alex really, seriously trusted with his life, it was lizzie. unsurprisingly, spending a considerable amount of time in a small, crowded car with someone really caused you to bond with them. it also helped that the werewolf seemed perfectly okay with the fact that alex would often, without warning, completely disappear on her: she was the one person he knew wouldn’t give her shit for it. that’s why he found himself texting her on a saturday afternoon, wanting to escape the stifling atmosphere of his grandmother’s psychic shop, and hoping to maybe grab some food. perched on the edge of his chair, he plucked at the edge of the menu, occasionally glancing towards the door in hopes that the brunette he was waiting for would make her appearance.

A soft sigh left her parted lips and gave him a reassuring smile. “I am sure, Al. We all have days when we are less in control of our abilities. You are still learning.” Her eyes wandered the scene before them, surveying the likelihood of growth. “I am not pity complimenting you. I have always told you the truth. Besides, most of this will be repaired and the plants will regrow.” Her hand landed on his shoulder for a gentle pat. “Don’t be so hard on yourself.”

frowning, alex shifted uncomfortably under her words. they were, in a weird way, comforting, but that wasn’t something he liked. he would’ve much preferred vivienne got mad at him, much like everyone else, because he knew how to deal with anger better than empathy. he knew he couldn’t expect that from her though. “i’m going to be learning forever at this rate,” he muttered, half to himself, as he reached up to comb his hand through his hair in frustration. “it’s just- you think you’re finally making progress and then shit like this happens. and i’ll hear about it for the next three days about meditation and keeping my emotions in check and all that bullshit new age stuff.”

“i-” okay, maybe he didn’t have a response for that. alex smacked his mouth shut and frowned at her as she continued to speak. almost in shame, his eyes jumped to the ground, back towards the piles of ashes which were once shrubbery. sure, he could feel energy, but that was magic, and it came from the fact that he was a witch. it had nothing to do with the universe or the cosmo or the gods like everyone seemed to be trying to feed him. “why does knowing all about your stupid fucking energies help me? i should be trying to control what’s happening with me, not what’s going on with everything else around me.”

Analiese loved being on land, and being human, and frankly, if she didn’t have the risk of drying out, she wasn’t sure if she’d ever go back in the water again. She much preferred the feeling of walking on two legs to swimming with one tail, and at this point, her tail seemed more like a nuisance to her.  So, when she was walking through town and felt a raindrop hit her hand, her eyes went wide and she immediately ducked into the nearest building, wiping the water drop off with her sleeve before the transformation could take effect. “No no no, not now!”  She muttered, before she noticed a nearby person.  “Hey, uh, is it cool if I hide out here until the rain stops?  I really don’t want to get wet.”

“my grandmother isn’t he-” alex prepared his usual excuse for turning customers away from his grandmother’s small psychic shop, though upon catching wind of the patron’s voice, he stopped himself. stepping down off the step-ladder he had been on, digging out books he didn’t want to read but his grandmother had practically forced him to look for, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his denim jacket. “oh, hey ana. you’re practically everywhere- you know that? if you’re hiding from the rain, feel free, but i can’t promise i’ll be any sort of entertaining.”

“Oops.” Mul replied with a giggle, as a smirk made its way onto her face. She wasn’t laughing at him per se. However, she found accidentally setting something on fire to be quite funny. “I’d suggest not lighting candles in such a flammable area next time. Although I think that it’d be an interesting scene to sketch.”

“like i said, i didn’t know the tree was going to catch on fire,” he defended himself once more, glancing back to survey the damage with a grimace. he was going to pay for this, harshly. “at least, you know, i guess it makes a beautiful scene?”

“the perks of living with a woman who can read the future,” alex muttered bitterly under his breath, following the ginger down to a squatting position. at the mention of ‘energies’, which alex considered batshit crazy, he grunted in annoyance. “stop with the fucking energies bullshit. plants aren’t sentient beings. they don’t even have a nervous system to feel pain. science has made it pretty clear that your plants aren’t feeling any sort of negative energy, or auras, or what else bullshit you’re trying to feed me.”

“i didn’t expect this to happen,” alex admitted, reaching up to rub at the back of his neck as he surveyed the actual extent of his damage. “i mean, usually fire is the one thing i’m actually decent at but-” a shrug followed his words, ending the sentence. when she reassured him, he glanced towards her, shaking his head, “you don’t have to pity compliment me. i know i did a shit job.”

Ella was hardly a stranger to the nightlife scene, in fact it was probably where she felt the most comfortable. That didn’t mean she was immune to the occasional pushy starnger that seemed to be everywhere. The red head had come across a man who couldn’t seem to take a hint and was close to getting a smack across the face. Ella had quickly shifted across the bar and took a seat beside someone without even looking at who they were. Tucking a red curl behind her ear, she desperately tried not to make eye contact with the man in hope he wouldn’t notice her. “ Pretend that you know me… just for a second? “ Ella requested quietly to the other beside her. “ That creep over there seems fairly convinced he’s going to get lucky tonight. “

alex didn’t party too often. the lights and crowds were often times an overload on his senses, which translated into danger for a witch, especially one as inexperienced as himself. but the kid thrived off of chaotic spaces, and a nightclub in a supernatural town was practically the definition, so there were times he’d make an exception. perched on the edge of a bar stool, he was quietly murmuring a spell into his whiskey glass to defer any potential hangovers the next day when a flash of red hair alerted him to a presence beside him. startled, he sat up straight, though upon recognizing the figure he grimaced. “i- uh,” he muttered, crossing one arm over the other as he turned his gaze down towards his alcohol once more, “i think i’d really prefer it if you found someone else to be your fake friend for a hot second, because otherwise this is gonna get fucking awkward and we probably both wanna avoid that.”

“i didn’t mean to cause any damage,” he corrected himself quickly, “and i was trying to make sure that the path was lit up. there’s no god damn lights in this town at night. i get it- supernatural goes with the whole dark and spooky theme, but it makes it really fucking hard to get around.”
