Question: How has the phandom avoided drama and toxicity all these years? It one of the few fandoms i haven’t heard anything bad.

It’s mostly because you missed it. Danny Phantom was a young show with a large fanbase too way back when, and it’s said it was one of the worst fandoms when it came to drama. It’s actually kinda famous for it, like it had really bad ship wars and a true-fan/anti-fan division. It’s not so bad now.

Also, ship interest is low and fan theories are high atm lol. Theories encourage participation and discussion; ships are a matter of opinion and will always cause conflict as a result.

This is true. There WAS a time where dp was so toxic that it legit pushed people away from engaging with the show and its content. There are tons of writers and artists that have abandoned their blogs and ffn accounts because the phandom was so toxic that making content for dp was no longer good for their mental health and wellbeing. Was a lot of that caused by Butch? For a time, yes. But there was also a lot of drama that wasn’t caused by Butch at all, and was just due to the age of the audience and general maturity levels.

But the people who perpetuated the drama have now mostly either left dp, or they’ve just grown up and decided the drama wasn’t worth their time. And enough of the phandom is old enough now that if we see stuff start to pop up from behind the scenes, we can usually catch it in time and deal with it there.

I also think that the “core dp blogs”—aka the blogs who do the majority of engaging with dp’s content and kinda “set the tone” for the phandom—just aren’t interested with drama. They’d much rather discuss theories or make headcannons. So if they don’t start drama or engage with it or post about it, then it’s unlikely to become an Issue™️.

Nothing beats the feeling when you start getting comments on every fic in a fandom or ship from one person, and it’s clear that they’re going on a fic-binge.

I love this so much! It’s always so much fun to watch someone go down a binge and they react to a part that becomes a Big Deal down the line, and they make a comment about it, and you just laugh and wait and then like five hours later you get a review like “you biTCH HOW DARE” and honestly it’s the most rewarding feeling.
