"But why does language matter so much? Once we become aware of it, everything changes. We live in language like fish in water, but just like fish, we rarely notice it.
Language shapes what we feel, think and how we live. Only when we see it do we notice its power. Words create worlds. Once we notice the water, we can learn to navigate it."

‘Who told you about this? You were too young to remember.’
‘It’s fiction.’
‘No, it’s not.’
And she turned to the wall.
I have never felt the weight or the sorrow of this memory. I really believed it was fiction. I learned that day that most of us are a living, breathing soup of memory and imagination that we may not be the best arbiters of which is which. So read this book as you would a novel. It makes no larger claim. But then, there can be no larger claim. Fiction is that strange, smoky thing that writers don’t entirely own, even if they think they do.
Where does it come from? Our past, our present, our reading, our imagination – yes. But perhaps from premonitions of our future, too?

Hans: Marty, I've been reading your movie. Your women characters are awful. None of them have anything to say for themselves. And most of them get either shot or stabbed to death within five minutes. And the ones that don't probably will later on.
Marty: Well, it's a hard world for women. I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
Hans: Yeah, it's a hard world for women, but most of the ones I know can string a sentence together.
i love when someone says “that’s so you” it’s nice knowing i have a little vibe of my own
