A message to all non-NaNoWriMo writers:

Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t want to/can’t participate in NaNoWriMo. Not participating doesn’t mean you aren’t a good writer. I know if you’re like me, it’s basically impossible. I’m not a writer that plans my plot ahead of time and in order to finish the word limit in a month, you kind of have to (or have some other sort of planning to keep you on track).

I used to get discouraged in high school when all my writer friends planned and completed their project–because I just couldn’t! And I know some people try to tell me I could but sadly I’m just not that kind of writer.

Don’t get discouraged!! People who participate are pretty amazing, but those who don’t are pretty amazing too!

Some people can lift 200 pounds. But if they carried it everywhere they went for an entire day without ever putting it down, they’d severely tear their muscles and cause permanent damage to their body.

Some people can enter a 140° car in the summer to get something out of the car. But if they stayed in the car, they’d die from the heat.

Some people can hold their breath underwater for 30 seconds. But if they tried to go scuba diving without the necessary gear, they’d drown.

Clearly, someone doing something for a short period of time does not automatically mean that they can do it indefinitely with no problem.

So why do people assume that if someone can walk for a few seconds, they don’t need a wheelchair?

Imagine being a writer, and then after your book’s release and when the hype goes through the roof, you write fanfiction for it, then you tweet “there is a fanfic out there that is totally canon. Try and find it.” Then all your readers are scouring every fanfic website, trying to find which one is yours, meanwhile helping all these fanfic writers get readers.
