so, in all-

- dan uses the labels queer and gay when he has to but labels aren’t really his thing - doesn’t mind when people use she/her pronouns for him - dan howell = formless blob - this was not phil’s coming out video.  - dan wants his private life (i.e., between himself and phil, to remain private) - “we already knew” is a shitty response to something so personal to him - he’s not suddenly our ‘gaY QUEEN xD’ he’s still just dan. lets not do that thing were we fetishize gay men please - if you don’t know how to come out to your family- do it over email

dan being so frank and honest about the trauma he experienced in navigating his sexuality is so fucking important. 

there’s people who say “its 2019 who cares if you’re gay its not a big deal” and that completely ignores the struggle of young adults coming out today that were still raised in a society where casual homophobia was accepted and even encouraged. 

growing up, the only gay person on tv was ellen, no one knew what transgender was, “gay” was an insult you learnt in your first year of primary school, the topic of sexuality was danced around as if saying the words gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, etc,., would drop a plague on humanity. 

it was a scary and dark place and all of those years of struggle makes it HARD to suddenly trust that we’re in a society more accepting of LGBTQ+ people. 

coming out and being authentic is brave and takes courage and isn’t something to be brushed off.

So basically I'm here to say that I'm so proud of Dan for making his coming out and telling everything. I never felt connected so much to his story about bullying and suicide. I got bullied for being trans ftm and pansexual and attempted suicide and self-harmed and still self-harm and just seeing him telling his story made me feel normal and valid. It's been 2 years that I didn't feel that way and I want to thanks him so much.
