My Secret...
is no secret... Answer: Faith.
The Waiting God
by Joyce Meyer - posted October 27, 2013
And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for his victory]. —Isaiah 30:18
This verse has become one of my favorites, and it has often been a source of encouragement to me when I’ve had hard times. The Living Bible paraphrases the verse like this: “Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to him, so he can show you his love; he will conquer you to bless you, just as he said. For the Lord is faithful to his promises. Blessed are all those who wait for him to help them.” Let’s think of the implication of the promise. God waits for us. As I think of that promise, it staggers my mind. The Creator of the universe and the Giver of all life has chosen to wait for us—waits for us to come to our senses, waits for us to respond to His love, waits for us to turn to Him for help.
That’s a staggering thought. God wants to show us love.
Perhaps as much as anywhere else, Satan attempts to build a mental stronghold right there. When we contemplate God’s love for us, many of us can’t take it in. We can only think of our failures, our shortcomings, and dozens of other reasons why God shouldn’t love us.
That reminds me of a kind man I’ve known for many years. One day he took care of a situation for me that he didn’t have to. I was surprised and deeply touched. “You are probably the kindest man I know,” I told him.
He stared at me in shock. “Me? Kind? Oh, I can be mean-spirited and cruel,” he said. For several minutes, he explained to me that he couldn’t possibly be a kind man. “I live with myself all the time, and I see all my defects.”
“Maybe that’s the trouble,” I told him. “You see your defects so clearly, you don’t see your caring, compassionate qualities. You discount all those things.”
He never could accept that he was kind. I also used the word gentle and that surprised him, too.
Perhaps that’s how it is with many of God’s people. We are so absorbed by our failures and all the wrong things we see about ourselves, it’s hard to believe that God wants to bless us. If we read, “God wants to punish you,” we wouldn’t have trouble saying, “Yes, that’s what I deserve.”
But how would we answer if someone said, “God wants to bless you”? We probably would say, “I don’t deserve that.”
How many of us believe we are entitled to God’s blessings? We want the good things. We want God to love us, encourage us, bless us, and give us victory, but to say we deserve the blessings may be more than we are willing to accept.
Why do we struggle over the concept of deserving? Our tendency is to think that we have to do something to earn the blessings… that we have to be good enough or faithful enough. We miss the point of God’s powerful, gracious love. Our blessings from God are not a result of our goodness. They are the result of God’s goodness.
We are entitled to God’s blessings for only one reason: because we are His children. It’s just that simple. Those of us who are parents grasp that concept with regard to our children. We brought them into the world, and they deserve our love. We freely give them our love before they do anything good or bad. They deserve our protection and all the good things we choose to give them. They don’t deserve those things because they’ve done something to earn them, but simply because they are our children.
Satan loves to trip us up on this one. As soon as we think it is right for us to be blessed, he points to our weaknesses or our failures. God points to our relationship. That’s the difference.
Gracious and loving God, thank You for being willing to bless me. Even though the devil tries to make me feel undeserving, please remind me that I am Your child and You are my Father. My relationship to You makes me deserving, and I thank You for that in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Reflecting & Sharing Following the Alexis Rose & Collaborative Season Finale
What can I say? It has been quite the emotional 48 hours to say the least. I cannot say thank you enough, so I am not going to. Instead, I am going to ask, shake and beg that you all open your eyes to the wondrous crop of talent co-existing in this city. Last night was a prime example of what the cream of the crop of our ‘Cream City’ truly has to offer. It has also been an example of the ways in which our city and the ways in which we work together, can and should improve…especially because we have the God-given ability to do so.
Nevertheless, at the same time, let’s give ourselves some slack as we are all growing, evolving, and literally blooming—and, we should be allowed to do so, in a loving and accepting manner. And, to be quite honest, an enthusiastic manner at that. Because, truly, what is more beautiful than growth!? Than to grow!? Than growing!? Especially when we have the skills to grow ourselves in the best ways we see fit?
Take Action. Let’s take action, so that more of last night and the months of non-stop devotion, exertion, sacrifice, and testing—that HAD to happen in order for a “flawless, smoothest, best show I’ve ever seen in Milwaukee” to occur…mind you—can truly compensate and invest in the betterment of our City, Milwaukee.
Milwaukee, I thank you for everything. My Creatures & Creators Team, every single one of you no matter where you graced on the spectrum—I thank you all even more. I pray that this process has shown you the beauty and worth in trials as well as the beauty and worth within yourselves—especially when you come together with those alike.
Lastly, there has been an absolute abundance of love, positive energy, feedback and rave reviews, that there is just not even a centimeter available for neither unwarranted criticism nor negativity. We just don’t work like that. Nonetheless, we are people of growth & betterment. Therefore, constructive feedback with genuine intent is greatly welcomed and encouraged.
Today began with comforting a dear and important friend as he unexpectedly had to lay his Father to rest. The meaning of life has been echoed all day, and the ways in which we can be quite selfish has been made very clear, and I am speaking this of myself as well. When it comes down to it, life isn’t about you forgetting your debit card in someone’s car, or if his parents like you or if because you didn’t execute everything perfectly to every single person’s standard, now what?
It’s about understanding those who are in pain and need, understanding our purpose in life and accepting that we will be making sacrifices and tough decisions all of the time—as, how else are we going to get any further in life, and closer to the sky?
And, in closing, it is about you doing your absolute best on that day, at that time. And, even if more people than not prefer to tell you what you could have done better before you yourself have even had the time to reflect on what you could have done better—focus on those who do get you and see you for you, respect your work and aspirations, and support you 100% because they get it.
Even if these people are the “minority” of the group—they are the ones that deserve your undying appreciation, aspiration and labor. Minority, know that you have this of me.
Nevertheless, whether the love is coming from the majority or the minority, thank you and Glory to God.
With that said, I do believe I have at least earned a bubble bath. Goodnight, MKE. Goodnight, World.
NO MATTER YOUR BELIEFS: BELIEVE. NO MATTER YOUR FAITH: HAVE FAITH.

I Feel Compelled...
Isn't it incredible how we can so quickly toss away and forget the one factor that began it all, for us? Whether it is good, or bad...everything starts from one point.
For me, right now--in this moment--I realize that I haven't signed into this blog in months. I put up my 'under construction' statement, upon deciding that not only did I not have the time to invest in the blog portion of my brand at the time--I wanted to re-brand and build the brand, itself.
Yet, it just now hits me--you abandoned the one thing that started it all. It was this blog that showcased your brand, and everything that your brand was becoming--from the beginning. And, then, you cut it off--because, you couldn't give it what you thought you were supposed to.
(pause)
Some of us make the same decision in terms of relationships, jobs, healthy living. Now that I think of it--I've made this same decision in many areas of my life, in the past. Yet this has begun to change, in some areas very quickly, and in some, slowly. And, yet--it is progress, either way.
Once we let go of these wild expectations we perceive to exist for us--whether its from ourselves, others, their projections and/or our own skewed perspective--this is what we have to cut out--not our passions, not our aspirations of healthy living, bad-habit breaking, spirituality, and...LOVE.
So, just now, dancing in my bedroom--I was moved to write this post. I was dancing to Beyonce's 'Radio'. All of my pets and the boo are hanging out doing their own thing in the same room, and I'm dancing, smiling...surrounded by love. And, I realize that the last time I danced to this song was when I was 21, living in a downtown high rise... alone.
Single and in the city. Fabulous, yet, lonely...empty... very Sex and the City.
But, now, I have love. And, because of that, I am beginning to have everything. This doesn't mean materials, money, popularity, perfection, excess...this means, everything that God intends for me to have, making me whole in his name, living every day as He wants me to...in order to become the Being I am to be, in His name.
There are so many realizations in my head at the moment, but the one that I feel compelled to share at the moment is this:
Milwaukee, we have to heal, before we can grow. We are so proud of our city's recent growth...but, what about our healing? What about our restoration and our revival...our spirits, our light, our love...our well being?
We don't have to rush, and we don't have to give up. We can do a little at a time, heal and restore quality vs. quantity, allowing our selves to heal and re-build in the ways in which we see fit--so, that we can then build and grow on top of a solid, whole, and love-filled foundation...environment.
We are products of our environment. What are we doing about ours?
Empower. Heal. Be Stylish in Grace.
Until Next Time,

MILWAUKEE HOME SUMMER TIME FASHION SHOW

I had such a blast being the Style Editor for the 414 Day Milwaukee Home show, that took place at The Hotel Foster.
For the first time, I was styling a much more chill, yet chic collection--and, majority male models! It was such a fun challenge and a fresh experience overall.
The models were the three F's: Fly, Fun, and Fashion-forward, and the talent behind the scenes was nothing short but major.
The ladies of Stag Barbershop, hooked up the hair and make-up, while Milwaukee Home's Melissa Thornton and Scott Mizzen made sure everything went off without a hitch--you would not have known that this was their first fashion show!
Everyone had fun and just let loose, which can sometimes be scarce at fashion shows.
The crowd was lively, the fashion was fresh, and the presentation made us all that much more anxious for a Milwaukee summer!
Until the next one!
