Note: I decided in order to get back into writing I NEED to write short stories (like really really short) and let myself write shit. Last time I wrote anything was over a year ago. This story is going to have a couple of chapters. Enjoy!

One day while hanging out with my friend at her place she decided enough was enough. It was time for me to stop being miserable and start dating again. After my last relationship which ended in a very toxic way almost 2 years ago I gave up on men. I didn't see the point in wasting my energy on a temporary connection and decided to focus on myself and my goals. I finally graduated college, found a good job and a small place for myself in a city I loved and finally I found peace after five years of being a mother to man child and begging for bare minimum.
My friend saw something I didn't and that was desperation. Deep down I craved love, below the hatred for men and dating was a scared little girl wanting to be loved and cherished and she saw that.
That's the reason why I made Tinder and was getting ready for a date with a tall handsome man named Sam. I wasn't nervous since this wasn't my first rodeo this year. I went on two dates so far and both of them were two beautiful great failures. One guy just wanted to get me back to his place and the other one was still hung up on his ex-girlfriend. The first one got what he wanted since I was in the mood and then completely ghosted me and the other was told to fuck off.
I was slowly starting to give up again but that day was my day off work and I was in the mood to go out and drink. We matched, started talking, he asked me if I wanted to meet up and I said yes. Usually I would wait a day or two before meeting a man just as a safety precaution, but something in me said to get my ass outside and drink a beer or two.
Usually I would take my time to get ready and do my makeup but that day I just put on a pair of my best jeans, a tight gray top, did my every day makeup routine and left my apartment in an hour.
He said he was from Kansas but was in my town on business so he didn't know much about this place.
I suggested one of my favourite pubs in town and sent him the address.
“Got it! See you there!”
It was the last text I got from him.
I was there in half an hour. The pub was half full and I couldn't find Sam. I found a place to sit in the corner and ordered myself a beer.
“I'm here. Where are you?”
The message wasn't delivered. I started thinking maybe I got scammed and stood up. A silly thought crossed my mind – he looked too good in the pictures to be real.
“Wonderful.” I whispered to myself and took a sip of my cold beer. If I was truly tricked I'll drink to that by myself.
As the first sip of beer hit my taste buds I couldn't help but wonder if he would show up. I was watching people enter and exit the pub as I was hoping I would see a tall man with a big nose and hair to his ears.
My friend was right. I was lonely. I really wanted to meet the guy. I craved a real connection that was not based on sex. I needed intimacy more than the air I was breathing.
The thoughts of me dying alone were interrupted by a tall handsome man storming into the pub with a worried look on his face. I waved at him and thought:”Shit! I'm screwed!!”
“Hi!” I managed to say, swallowing nervously as I shook his hand. “Nice to finally meet you, Sam!”
“Nice to finally meet you too, (Y/N)!” I'm so sorry I'm late my phone died and I got lost.” He said as he took off his leather jacket to reveal a toned body wrapped up in green flannel. I was salivating. Hopefully, his brain cells were functioning.
“I was worried I was about to be stood up.” I told him.
“No, I don't do that.” He said as the waitress asked him what he wanted to drink.
“I'll have the same, please.”
My eyes were wondering, scanning; his hands were big, his fingers thick, his profile as he turned to talk to the waitress perfectly sculpted. I was losing myself in him already.
“Fuck!”
“What kind of business brings you here?” I figured I should ask him something before he noticed I was staring at his hands.
“I'm working on a case.” He answered and took a sip of his beer.
“Case?”
He pulled out a badge from his jacket. “FBI.” He said and I could feel my underwear getting wet.
“A man in a uniform…and a gun. Fuck!”
“Oh…so you casually decided to use Tinder while on duty.” I joked.
He gave me an awkward smile showing off his adorable dimples. The lust within me was consuming me.
“I'm no better than a man.”
I was objectifying the poor dude as soon as he entered the pub and he had no idea.
Since he was working on a case, he probably just downloaded Tinder to get laid while he was here. I figured, I haven't had sex in a month and I was in the mood. I was also wishing he was relationship material.
“I've been using Tinder for a couple of months actually.”
“Any luck?” I asked casually.
“Not yet.” He smirked. I could feel his eyes on me. Nervousness started to creep in as I chugged my beer wishing I could light a cigarette…I quit smoking a year ago.
“Well me neither.” I was feeling hot. “What kind of case?”
“That's classified.”
I chuckled.
“Oh come on give me something I'm a fan of thrillers.”
“Books or movies?”
“Both, but I prefer books.”
I think he liked my answer. He caved in and told me a girl was murdered in my town a few days ago. I didn't know because I was too busy working to watch the news. The girl was about my age and was stabbed to death. Sam thought it was the doing of a serial killer he had been trying to catch for a month. So far there were two additional victims; one in Washington and one in Utah – both killed in an exact same way.
Also hearts were missing. That part made me uneasy, especially knowing every single victim was attacked in their home. They were all living alone…like me.
“I hope you catch the guy, agent.” I winked, kicking my fear of getting murdered to the side.
“I hope so too!”
The conversation lasted for two hours, but seemed to last a lifetime. I had no idea that a man could be so similar to me. We were both book worms, shared love for philosophy, loved nature and working out…
“I love talking shit about late stage capitalism, especially when I'm drunk. Usually guys don't find that appealing.”
“Usually girls don't find it appealing when I talk about the differences between absurdism and existentialism but here we are …”
For the first time in my life I felt safe enough to be a goof in front of a man.
My soul was at ease. There was a strange sense of familiarity in the air.
“I wonder if this is going to be a meaningless fling. This feels different.”
He was polite. He didn't touch me, he didn't even try to kiss me; we were just talking. I felt like a human next to him.
“I had no idea I could have so much in common with one person.” He stated. “My brother and I are quite different.”
“Oh so you live with your brother.”
“Well, if you count being on the road a lot and sleeping in sleazy motels as living together.”
“Your brother is also in the FBI?”
“Yeah, it's in the family you can say. You would like him, he has the same music taste as you.”
“Is he older?”
“Yeah.”
“Your dad listens to rock?”
“How did you know?”
“Firstborn daughter.” I said, raising my hand. “I've noticed a pattern.”
“What kind of pattern?”
I loved that he was asking so many questions. As soon as he sat down he started asking me about my life, dreams and goals. I always found curious men to be the hottest ones.
“You get shit ton of trauma but a damn good music taste.”
Sam laughed. “Ouch. Should I ask?” He was kind of hesitant.
“I ain't ruining my chances with you by telling you about my daddy issues.” I was feeling a bit embarrassed but didn't let it show. Why was I telling a complete stranger about my complicated relationship with my father? I wasn't even drunk.
Sam didn't seem to be freaked out.
“I don't think it's possible for you to ruin it. I haven't had this much fun with someone in a very long time.” He confessed, sending me into the stratosphere. My heart was in my throat now and I could feel my palms sweating.
“I don't think this is going to be a meaningless fling.”
“Likewise, Sam!” I raised my glass. “Cheers to that.”
“Cheers!”
Midnight was approaching and I was starting to realize– I have work tomorrow. My head was light, my thoughts at bay and Sam was starting to look more and more delicious. Curiosity about one thing was consuming me slowly though, since I was on my third beer.
“Sam, a quick question.”
“Yes?”
“Is this going to end in you taking me to your motel room?”
Sam's posture visibly became more stiff. I thought I scared him for a second; when he smirked I knew I didn't.
“It depends. Do you want to?” He asked me, leaning in across the table.
“Trick question. I want to have sex with you but not tonight.” My mouth confessed before my brain could comprehend.
“I feel the same way.” He simply said. His eyes were fixed on mine, never breaking eye contact making me a bit nervous.
“I'm glad we're on the same page.”
We finished our drinks and Sam offered to pay like a true gentleman.
The night ended with us hugging and saying goodbye.
“Text me when you get home.”
“Give me your number and I will.”
Once he gave me his number I dared to lift myself on my tiptoes and place a light kiss on his cheek. He smelled like pine trees and fresh rain.
Well I'm experiencing the biggest and most painful breakup. My boyfriend decided to break up with me via text because he would rather stay in one place and be miserable than change and build a life he wants. He would rather be single than make an effort and cherish our relationship.
He told me I deserve better and that he was hurting me and that I don't deserve that. He said he loves me but a person who loves you would not do this.
I'm absolutely heartbroken, I cannot eat, I cannot sleep.... I'm working from home so I can cry during breaks but I cannot believe that he did this.

italics are once again a stylistic choice that many writers love to use to create emphasis, and it’s a more stylistically acceptable and traditional form of emphasis than bold or underline text. oh, and just to be extra clear: AI STOLE IT FROM US.
stop creating fandom witch hunts over AI when you know fuck all about what it means to sit and write a story, and to spend hours fiddling with sentence structure and dialogue to get the exact right tone. writers will stop writing out of fear that their work “sounds like AI” — IT DOESNT! AI STOLE FROM US! AI SOUNDS LIKE US! — and after a while, all that will be available on AO3 is shitty AI-generated fanfiction.
because yeah, people are going to continue to use AI to write fanfiction whether you “call them out” or not. but making a laughable thread on X that uses asinine criteria is not going to fix that problem. it will just push the real writers out because people will accuse them of using AI when they haven’t, and they will (rightfully) stop writing for spaces that attack them.
