Any new interesting books you got into?
Despite the fact that i have an acotar blog on tumblr i am actually a pretty picky reader (i know its ironic). Ive been struggling to find a book that super hooks me in, but here’s my top reads this year!
Pastoralia, George Saunders
This is a short story collection and its very literary so not for everyone but god his stories are so good. If youve never read anything by him before, i suggest starting with tenth of december instead since that one is a better collection. But the title story in this one was fire
His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman
reread them after so many years but they hit different
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, V E Schwab
the prose in this one is overbearing and overly indulgent, but the story is so good i could get past it
Conversations with Friends, Sally Rooney
Ive been wanting to read a Sally Rooney book and i finally did it. This may not have been the best to start with, i hated the main character so much, but it was fairly short and i did kinda like the ending. It was a different sort of experience
The Queen’s Gambit, Walter tevis
I really liked beth’s story, but this one falls a little bit prey to the “men cant write women characters.” There were some startling scenes especially during her childhood that made it hard for me to get into, but i really wanted to watch the show so in glad i read it
Currently im reading divine rivals. Really like iris so far, and i think some world building is a little rushed, but i love more fast pacing so im sticking to it! If any of you have read it, lmk what you thought
Im also working up to reading a plain romance, like one with no fantasy elements or literary fic elements because i literally never have, isn’t that crazy? I would love recs for romances that are moody, coastal, artsy/humanities vibes, or age gap if anyone knows anything good
