i think it's actually pretty common for people to believe physically disability is a choice without believing it in those exact terms but maybe i'm just biased because my parents decided to blame the muscle disorder they were told i had on me not exercising enough/eating "right"/etc.

i think it's an inevitable consequence in a society where "eating right" and "taking care of your body" gets so emphasized that if you're experiencing permanent consequences of something or if your physical disability is holding you back then that's your fault and you're not trying hard enough to push past it or it's not a "disability" to someone else so why are you "allowing it" to be a disability for yourself?

to the point that even other physically disabled people are participating in this behavior and most of my abusers in my life who acted like i had no right to have physical limitations and it was just a lack of effort on my part also had chronic body problems themselves, whether they explicitly identified as disabled or not
