Its shore leave! Ensign Ädiya has beamed down to this lovely planet and intends to have a fantastic, memorable and most importantly relaxing first shore leave of her Star fleet career.
Shes packed a picnic lunch, a pad loaded up with lots to read, a change of off duty clothes and a towl.
Currently shes floating on her back in a very nice alcove of the planet's beautiful crystal clear water. She had been splashing around earlier, but now shes mostly sunning herself and Minnie. Vine tendrils reach out past the rest of her starfished body, making it outstandingly easy to stay afloat, she could probably fall asleep and stay buoyant.
Shes already starting to doze slightly...

The creature watches Adiya from a long distance, keeping an eye on her. Why is this human- of it is human... not moving? It's heartbeat is audible, but slow. Dead? Is human dead? that would be bad. Dead human is never good. The creature decides to run an experiment- by throwing a pebble at Adiya's foot.

(Continuing from previous ask.)
The tapping pauses for a moment when the crew speaks, but than continues. Medium pitch, low, high, low, lower. Repeat.
After a few good minutes, whatever it is other gets bored or decides that the people on the ship aren’t picking up fast enough, Becouse it gives a rapid few taps on the front of the bridge. For a second, what looks to be a very large eye flashes across one of the windows.
(If they have transported down:)
The planet below is mostly water. The small land patches are barren, stone with a few small trees and outcroppings. Giant arches of rocks and stones grow out of the ocean, covered in hanging moss and vines. They look to be natural formations, albeit strange. The water is dark, hard to see through. It looks to have lots of have many cave systems going through it.
-🪼✨
[Kirk looks at the patches of land, calculating how difficult it would be to travel from one of them to the other. they're standing on a rather plain portion of land and he wants to explore. Spock scans the water carefully, while Kirk, outside his field of vision, steps on a slippery stone surface in the water, then on another, independent from the first one, and then another one, until he reaches a relatively tall cliff emerging from the ocean. he climbs it (don't ask me how he did it in those high heels). Before Spock looked in his direction again, he was standing on top of it, slightly panting, with his hands lightly scratched. He figured it would be fun to jump in, if the water turns out to be actual water and not some fucked up acid.
Spock turns around, looking for him. They lock eyes. Spock sighs quietly]
Spock: do not move, captain, I shall join you. The water's density is different from Earth's water. It shall be regrettable to see you drown.
Kirk: it's cute that you care. We should look into those caverns over there after we look at this rocky place... [he looked ahead, away from the water. There was fauna Spock will surely love to study. Without any valuable substances or intelligent inhabitants, they likely didnt have anything of use to the Empire. But this was fun. Why not look around a bit?]
[Spock reached the cliff, but just then he stopped dead in his tracks, as if he's heard something. What the hell...? Oh, Kirk could hear it too, now. The same tapping he's heard on the ship. Now he remembered why he was there in the first place...]
The water is dark and foamy, like ink put through a blender. Even with the amount of sunlight coming through the thick cloud layer, it’s impossible to see more than 10 feet past the shore. The source of the noise grows louder. It appears to be comeing from a cave, rocks jagged and sharp. A few glowing plants bloom on the outermost boulders. There’s a glowing light from inside, warm like sun.
Click, click, click, click, click. Low, high, medium, low, lowest. The same tones.
One day, while bones is down on an away mission- most likely a colonized planet that has more or less been wiped out- his communicator stops working. Split off from the rest of the group, he’s lost with only his vague sense of direction to guide him. When he sits down on a rock or something to catch his breath, he hears a strange clicking coming from a nearby body of water. It’s a submerged cave by the looks of it, big enough to lead to the ocean. Whatever’s in there is clearly looking at him, giving a rhythmic series of clicks.
-🪼✨
*Doctor McCoy looks a little bit like shit. His uniform is dirty, with actual dirt instead of blood for once. He keeps his head on a swivel, single eye flicking around ceaselessly. He stalks along mindful of making noise, and keeping an ear out to hear anyone or anything else. Hes sweating as he goes, not just from the humid air.
He eventually sits down on a sturdy looking rock formation to catch his breath. Its a pretty nice area, a pearly white sandy beach with a calm ocean. The surrounding alien brush thins around the edge, giving Bones a fair look out. In different circumstances it would be nice for shore leave. Not that bones often takes shore leave.
He double checks his belongings, and triple checks his communicator. He considers fiddling with the comm but it's not what hes best at, and he can't risk fully breaking it. He lets out a long shaky sigh as he works on some sort of plan.*
*he stiffens at the noise, head whipping to the side as the mauled left side of his face had been twards the area the noise came from. He slowly grabs his tricorder and points it twards the spot the noise came from. He shifts his weight onto the balls of his feet, just in case...*
A pair of glowing white eyes peek up from the eager, attached to a humanoid skull covered in fins and spikes (much like a lionfish.) the creature keeps its body under water for a long time, just… watching him. After awhile, it gives off a series of strange, rhythmic clicks and whistles at him.
Than the creature throws a rock at him, landing at his feet. Either it has bad aim, or didn’t mean to hurt him. Is a relatively normal smooth rock.
*bones single eye flicks back and forth from the tri-corder readout and the surfacing creature. His other hand slowly inches towards his dagger and he mentality kicks himself for never bringing a damn phaser with him.
He flinchs slightly at the thrown rock, gloved hand jumping the last few inches to his knife. Clutching it immediately on contact, McCoy feels a bit calmer; even if it would be largely uneffective against the creature.
He squints slightly at the readout of the tricorder, it's difficult to make heads or tails of it. He's too far away to get a clear scan but he hardly wants to get closer.*
The tricorder reading shows that the creature is fully aquatic, but able to survive on land for short periods of time using a secondary respiration system. It has venom glands in several of the spines that line its fins, and seems to more resemble and amphibian than a mammal. The creature looks at him for another lonnnng moment. It dives back into the submerged cave for a moment, and resurfaces. It tosses another thing at bones, once again landing at his feet. this time, it's a shell that seems to be from some large, unknown creature. Like a snail, but the size of a small cat. The creature seems to have more things to toss over to bones. Once of said things looks like a scrap of metal that might have been a phaser, at some point.
*bones reads the scans, permanent scowl deeping further. Running isent an option, it can breathe on land. And the venom its carrying around seems particularly nasty.
McCoy doesn't exactly flinch at each item thrown but he does stiffen. The items might not be hitting, might not be thrown with Force right now, but that's subject to change.
At the metal however his brow furrows with interest. Inching at a snails pace he hunchs over to pick it up. He's exceedingly cautious not to make any sudden movements.*
*It is a phaser, standard Empire issue. Or rather it WAS.*
The creature watches intently as he picks up the items. When he does, the creature gives a series of aquatic clicks and chirps in response. Unclear if that’s a good thing.
The creature takes another long look at him. Hes a relatively normal looking human, aside from the missing eye. It tilts its head and clicks out another noise, pointing to the eye. The thing is observant enough that it’s staying mostly in his blind spot now.
One day, while bones is down on an away mission- most likely a colonized planet that has more or less been wiped out- his communicator stops working. Split off from the rest of the group, he’s lost with only his vague sense of direction to guide him. Safe gift for humans is blankets, usually. The women seem to like candles.
Misunderstanding. Was not human. Was strange other thing. Do other thing not like blanket? It kicked blanket away. Rude.
The creatures many eyes blink twice- or just about, Becouse some of them don’t blink.
(Ooc: would you prefer reposts to constantly sending new asks? I can do whatever’s easier for you)
[ok, so the creature can understand them]
[they sit down]
"do you understand what you just did? now i'm stranded here until the enterprise manually sends someone to recover me."
The creature does not blink twice. It tilts its head.
[wait. fuck. the prime directive!]
"the enterprise is the name of my, er, pack."
"do you have a pack anywhere?"
The creature gives more clicking noise. It’s clear that it’s comeing from its throat, even though its mouth isint moving.
“P… paaahh… paaackk..”
It repeats the word back to t’kite. It sits for a long while, possibly trying to figure out what the word means.
[oh! they weren't expecting much more than a nod or shake of the head]
"a group of people who stick by and support you consistently."
"...i'm t'kite, by the way."
The creature nods slowly.
“Yes. Have pack. Three.”
Then the creature points to t’kite and repeats their name. Than the creature points to itself and gives a series of aquatic clicks and whistles that must be its name.
[t'kite attempts to approximate the creature's name via tongue clicks and regularcore whistles]
"is that right?'
“No. Pointy ear human say it wrong. Try again,”
The fish creature demands. It must not know what a Vulcan is.
[t'kite pauses. their first instinct is to take that as an insult related to their behavior and unconventional mental disciplines, but this creature just learned federation standard. it's possible it just doesn't know what a vulcan is]
"...i am vulcan. not human."
"Vul... can.." The creature mimics the words. Than points to t'kite's arm.
All Vulcan's have metal arm, question?
"...no. just me."
The alien creature takes a moment to process this, and than nods. The creature than goes back into the submerged cave. it's too dark to see how big it is, or what's down there, or what the creature is even doing.
[t'kite waits. it's not like they have anything better to do while they also wait for the enterprise to find them]
[...they will find them, right? it's not like the crew ever leaves their seinor officers behind, surely the same will apply for any life]
A few minutes pass. The creature swims back up, and throws another item at t'kite. It's a working communicator (where'd she get that?) and... an arm. More like arm bones, humanoid or similar, and wet and slimly. She tosses it at them.
There. New communicator. New arm. I fix.
"thank... you."
[t'kite picks up the communicator and starts backing away, maintaining eye contact with the creature]
[it seems the arm flipped their metaphorical freind/threat switch]
"i... must go, now."
“Go now. Yes. T’kite go back to pack.”
The creature clicks out a few noises that must mean goodbye, and than dives back into its cave.
Mod here! I still don’t have a nailed down design for the fish creature, but this is a Pintrest board I made for it! Note that none of the art or pictures are mine.
This pin is the closest I can think of to its appearance. That said, I can’t find the original artist :(. If anyone knows who made it, please DM me so I can add that!
Mod can we get a description or. Like. A picrew of the fish lady i must know what she looks like
Mod here: horrors beyond comprehension (I’m making a Pinterest board as we speak.)
