I got Uhura to open a communications channel from here to the other world, so i can see for myself how things are over there. This worold is about to get conquered... eventually. Once we figure out how to actually get there, you know.

(Continuing from previous ask.)
The tapping pauses for a moment when the crew speaks, but than continues. Medium pitch, low, high, low, lower. Repeat.
After a few good minutes, whatever it is other gets bored or decides that the people on the ship aren’t picking up fast enough, Becouse it gives a rapid few taps on the front of the bridge. For a second, what looks to be a very large eye flashes across one of the windows.

The planet below is mostly water. The small land patches are barren, stone with a few small trees and outcroppings. Giant arches of rocks and stones grow out of the ocean, covered in hanging moss and vines. They look to be natural formations, albeit strange. The water is dark, hard to see through. It looks to have lots of have many cave systems going through it.

[Kirk looks at the patches of land, calculating how difficult it would be to travel from one of them to the other. they're standing on a rather plain portion of land and he wants to explore. Spock scans the water carefully, while Kirk, outside his field of vision, steps on a slippery stone surface in the water, then on another, independent from the first one, and then another one, until he reaches a relatively tall cliff emerging from the ocean. he climbs it (don't ask me how he did it in those high heels). Before Spock looked in his direction again, he was standing on top of it, slightly panting, with his hands lightly scratched. He figured it would be fun to jump in, if the water turns out to be actual water and not some fucked up acid.
Spock turns around, looking for him. They lock eyes. Spock sighs quietly]
Spock: do not move, captain, I shall join you. The water's density is different from Earth's water. It shall be regrettable to see you drown.
Kirk: it's cute that you care. We should look into those caverns over there after we look at this rocky place... [he looked ahead, away from the water. There was fauna Spock will surely love to study. Without any valuable substances or intelligent inhabitants, they likely didnt have anything of use to the Empire. But this was fun. Why not look around a bit?]
[Spock reached the cliff, but just then he stopped dead in his tracks, as if he's heard something. What the hell...? Oh, Kirk could hear it too, now. The same tapping he's heard on the ship. Now he remembered why he was there in the first place...]
Spock, what's the worst thing you've done? I don't mean morally— I mean, what action have you despised the most?
This is an interesting question, and it would be easier for me to reply if it was simply a moral issue.
Two point five days after I became First Officer of the Enterprise, we were tasked with extinguishing some revolutionary efforts on the Vulcan city of Shi'Kahr. I have reasons to believe that there was no actual uprising, and that this was intended as a test to ensure where my loyalties lied. I would strongly prefer not to give further details.
His fiancee was killed in that mission

*Bones has once again slunk his way onto the bridge despite not having any real reason to be there. Most everyone has learned by now not to tell the CMO what he can and can't do, so no ones called it out even if Commander Spock IS giving him the stink eye.*
*he is, as usual, hovering around the captain's chair like a ghost with poor posture, throwing out snide remarks left and right. Eventually he settles into leaning on a nearby console with a pose that can't possibly be comfortable.*
"...you know captain, s'been about a month of sundays since you've had a proper physical down at my med bay. You've ignored all the reminder messages, and aint listend to me about it being needed.
Hell, you pulled rank to get out of it last time... but before you start bellyaching at me all over again that your fine and dandy, you might wanna get that looked at."
*as he says 'that' he points at kirks right leg, which is perfectly fine. Then as the captain turns to look at it he strikes with the hypo that had before been resting innocuously in his hand, injecting something into the captain's left arm.*
"whoops my hand slipped. Well... now you might wanna go get that checked out too."

[He ignores the sting in his arm for a while. Then it starts feeling worse. Obviously upset, he gets up and follows the doctor to sick bay, while spock takes his place in the captain's chair.]
*things are a bit tensely quieter then usually between the two on the trip to medbay. Once they get there Bones corrals Kirk into the far exam room, shutting the door behind them.*
"hop on up the biobed, let me take a good look at ya."
*hes pulled out his tri-corder, allready waiting it around and scowling at the readout.*
What you frowning at? What is it? [He didn't seem happy, but immediately after he decided to be funny]. Am i dying?
[He tried to get up and take a peek at the screen]
*bones places a firm gloved hand on Kirk's chest to keep him sitting down, slapping the captain's hands away from his tri-corder*
"Not yet you aint, but keep acting a fool in my medbay and I'll change that right quick! Keep your ass planted or ill strap you down. Quit squirmin, or ill pull out the bio bed straps!"
*he waves the tri-corder around some more and his frown deepens into a proper scowl.*
"...you been eatin right jim?"
*and judging by the face bones is making at the readout, thats almost certainly a rhetorical question.*
[He scowls and moves around a little more, just to annoy him.]
...fuck off. I can eat what i want, I'm not a kid. Now do something about my arm, will you?

If you wont put some real food in yourself and wont even take your damn vitamins, I'll have to start pulling out last resorts like ambushing you on the bridge."
*Doctor McCoy may only have one eye but sheer murderous glare hes able to cram into just the one is worse than most can manage with two.*
[he stares at the screen with a frown, then rolls his eyes at him]
You're the doctor, arent you? How about you stop blaming me and you actually fix whatever is wrong?

*Dr McCoy puffs up like an angry toad, turning a few shades redder. If looks could kill, Bones would be in for a promotion. *
"how about i- damn it jim, Im a doctor not a time traveler! This is the sorta shit that breaks down over time, and s'gotta be built back on up that way too!
As for your arm? It was a fucking multivitamin jim, well and a mild neurotoxin, but thats besides the point!"
*bones grabs the captain by the shoulders as he berates him, voice raising in volume. Then as he inhales to start yelling again, he instead lets out a long suffering sigh.*
"...Look jim, i can shoot you up with as many vitamin hyposprays, or hell even slip supplements into your food, but that aint worth shit. Band-Aids don't fix bullet holes dumbass..."
[He rolls his eyes, then looks up at him, trying to appear pleasant, in hopes of being allowed to leave. Bones was pretty sure he's not gonna listen to his advice. Hell, he knew Jim well enough to know he won't]
Whatever, Bones. Just let me go back to bridge. I'll eat what i'll eat and it will be fine. You can't force me.
[He wants to grt up, but Bones still hadn't let go, so he adds]
I'll try. Happy? Now let me leave or I'll bite you.
The ship has stopped, in orbit around an uninhabited planet. When it comes time to start the engines, though, they don’t seem to propel you forward at all.
Like something is holding the ship in place.
Then, something taps on the side of the hull. Tap, tap, tap…. Rhythmic, in a pattern. Whatever it is, it’s got you and won’t let go.
At least it’s not crushing the ship, though.

Kirk checks the viewscreen, searching for whatever it is that caused them to stop.
"Mr. Sulu, increase the speed."
The Enterprise does not move. He orders Sulu to try again. Nothing. Then the tapping starts. With a raise of his hand, he commands everyone to be quiet.
"Mr. Spock, analysis."
"Whatever it is, captain," comes the answer, "I cannot explain, since I am at lost to understand the phenomenon as well."
He rolls his eyes. You'd think a science offier would have more of an answer than that.
"Liutenant Uhura, try to decode that tap pattern. I'll lead a landing party to the surface of the planet. Mr. Spock and Doctor McCoy will join me."
