Hi. So if you're reading this, thank you. This is just going to become a place for me to post my poetry and clear the choas in my mind. Writing, especially poetry, helps me work through what I'm feeling when I'm upset or overwhelmed. It is not exactly for other people, but more for me to improve my writing and work through my anxiety and depression. “Soon”

I go to class I sit in my seat I take a few notes I listen somewhat.

.

But I don‘t really Pay that much attention Although I know I should I just get distracted.

.

It’s a three hour class, I’ve got other things to do, Plus it’s easy to not listen To a teacher who can’t stay on topic.

.

I will pay for the student I am, I’m sure Because FINALS are next Tuesday. Will I graduate this month or not? It’s up in the air right now, I think.

.

“I’m almost done, just a bit more,” I tell myself over and over. But these old habits I have They’re so hard to break.

.

I bring my physical pain to myself, By not being responsible or smart, Causing so much stress and anxiety. So I just cannot wait to be done already.

“Burning”

The day starts as It always does Except For the churning Low in my belly, Crawling its way Up my throat And knocking on my Stubbornly closed lips, As though it was Asking to burn me up Inside before leaving my Emptied and used.

.

This feeling just appears, It takes control of me And I can’t eat And I can’t feel And I can’t breathe And I want... How I want to curl up Inside myself forever. If there’s a way to feel At peace again, I’d gladly take it So that I can wake up and feel A reprieve from this burning.

“Reflection: Part One”

When looking into a mirror, Most simply see themselves, The same face staring back everyday, And then move on.

.

But when I gaze into a mirror, I pause before it and stare hard, At what I see because all there is for me, Are my many imperfections on display.

.

How I wish I didn’t focus on this.

.

Echoes of the kind words I’ve heard, Push into my mind as I sit there, On the old carpet floor before my mirror, Hanging on the wall, less grand than a villain’s.

.

Everyday is the same routine.

.

Like a ritual I begin, By listing everything wrong, From my eyes’ dark circles, To the thick rolls of my stomach.

.

Then I sit there listlessly before myself.

.

And I wonder when it will happen, The day I will see my reflection, Smile and tell myself, “You are beautiful.”

“Crushed”

When you said, That you had a dream You wished were real Last night in your sleep, My heart began to pound.

.

‘Did he dream of me possibly?‘ I wondered nervously, ‘No, it couldn’t be, stay calm.’ I took a breath and made a joke, You then stopped my heart cold.

.

I read the words you sent, As you explained how You missed her and wanted What you had back, I barely held myself together.

.

So when you said, “I still love her,” I felt smaller than I ever have, Because while you felt better telling me, I broke apart knowing you’d never feel the same way.

“Tumble”

Hope is a cord of rope

Wrapped around your waist

As you climb a tall mountain.

If you have your rope,

You can make it to the top,

But if it snaps or frays,

If you lose your grip,

You will falter and slip,

Then you will tumble.

Down

           Down

                       Down

Until you crash onto the ground,

Broken and beaten,

Staring up at where you fell from,

Wondering if you should even try

To get there again or stay down.

Hope is such a fragile thing that

Rises you up, only to make you fall…

“Woman”

“Love is more than looks,”

Is a phrase we teach,

Yet don’t seem to absorb

Unfortunately.

 .

So, please listen to this:

 .

Laugh lines around her mouth

Wrinkles near her eyes

Extra fat on her upper arm

And rolls on her sides.

. 

She is absolutely real.

. 

Thighs that jiggle lightly,

A stomach that never seems flat,

Looking down inspires a second chin,

She is so soft.

 .

A woman isn’t always skin and bones.

 .

Yes, she can be bigger,

Yes, she can be shorter,

Yes, she can be plain,

But is she less of a woman?

 .

Hell no.

 .

Her smile is bright and warm,

Her cheeks round and full,

When her arms open wide to engulf

You in her never-ending love.

 .

She is irreplaceable.

 .

Don’t listen to society’s view,

Of what she should be, but,

Instead appreciate her for the

Amazing creature that she is.

 .

For she is Woman, and she is beautifully imperfect.

“Embrace”

With a simple touch,

Warmth radiates out of you and,

Reaches towards me alongside,

Your outstretched arms.

Shyly, I accept the offer.

Then, once my chin is resting,

On your strong shoulder and,

Your hands rest on my waist,

The storm dissipates inside me.

In your embrace, I feel at peace.

“Looking”

They ask me, “what are you looking for?”

I freeze and ponder what

Exactly I would want in love and,

I always give a simple answer that,

Seems to change every time.

 .

I’m not actively looking for anything

Except what I hope for,

Which is a love with a best friend,

Who will laugh with me and

Always be there, by my side.

. 

To be funny or silly,

To be smart and caring,

To be accepting of me, who I am,

To be strong enough to,

Pick me up when I break apart.

 .

Laughing at my jokes and,

Knowing to hug me when I need it,

Who will never ask questions but one,

“Do you need me right now love?”

Someone who’ll just be there will be perfect.
