I think Silksong’s abilities suffer from being placed in the same order as Hollow Knight’s. The critical path goes: Spell -> dash -> wall jump -> wings, which I don’t think fits Hornet’s skills particularly well.

Team Cherry spent like a decade agonising over these choices, so I don’t think my random thoughts hold much weight, but an ideal Silksong for me would have opened with clawline as the first ability, followed by dash.

Because it conflicts with drifter’s cloak imho, I would not have included a double jump. I would have just made it so that the clawline is four-directional just like the nail and tools, and also make it only work if the nail impales an object for Hornet to pull herself towards.

Silksoar could have been a charged clawline, then, which gives Hornet more vertical and horizontal movement.

Side note: is anyone else lowkey pissed off at the faydown cloak like,,, thematically? Pharloom’s whole fucking deal is the manipulation of fibre, and you’re telling me she doesn’t fucking knit herself a garment to stay warm? Feathers isn’t even from bugs!

#silksong #hollow knight #because of the signature HK directional input system #it’s a game almost entirely about positioning #you want to be above a guy to pogo and below a guy to wraiths #the strictly horizontal clawline and then the relative simplicity of the double jump both kinda hamper this design principle #as does contact damage!!!!! tbh #but that’s maybe a hot take #I think enemies should have a designated quick attack for when they overlap hornet’s hitbox to discourage standing inside of them #but it should have a little bit of wind up to allow the player to correct #or to zoom straight through #hornet is so fast and agile it really hurts her play style that you can’t really dash through any enemies at all #I think it also just makes more sense for silk spear to be an upgrade for clawline but whatever
