@siriusdraws !!!!!!
this just in: magpies know where you live and they’re coming for you
Can’t you just hit them with a tennis racket?
Are you asking to die? Because that’s how you die. rule 1 of magpie encounters is that you DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RETALIATE. A magpie will attack anyone who comes too close to his nest, but if you behave aggressively they will target you personally and come after you more often and, as this article points out, FOLLOW YOU HOME and WAIT for your asshole self to step outside so they can kill you. These birds carry a grudge and they remember faces for years.
The best way to avoid getting attacked is to make friends with magpies. Outside of their breeding season, get friendly with your local magpie gang. Share food with them. Sit near them. Chill with them. If you show them you are a good and friendly human they will consider you fam, and come breeding season they won’t bother swooping you. Case in point: I made friends with the magpies on my parents’ farm, and even though I’ve been gone for years, every time I go back they never bother to attack me. My dad, though? AKA Satan Himself, the man who once pulled down their nest and threw a bucket at a swooping magpie? He has got the world’s biggest target on his back and goes around under siege every springtime.
We’re friendly with our corvids on our property. I got swooped ONCE (like a warning swoop) the first spring 3 months after moving in. I didn’t react or retaliate and it’s never happened since. We now have two friendly juvenile magpies hanging out most days.
#this is true #i’ve only been swooped once in my entire life when i was 9 and at a new school #can’t blame them for being snippy with school kids #anyway #respect them and they will respect you #i’d go for smokes on the porch of my old place #and the maggies would bring their adolescents over to squawk horribly at me #magpies #meanwhile in australia (ecouter-bien{
They bring their juveniles over to hang with you?? Man, that’s some corvid trust right there :D
Swoopy-type “magpies” aren’t corvids! I HAVE AN INFOGRAPHIC ABOUT THIS
The thing about the rich of this country is that billionaires have more money than is humanly possible to spend. So like, I really do not give any amount of a shit if increasing their taxes is “faaair” because I care more about no one starving to death or going without medical care in fucking 2015 than I do about the great grandson of the guy who invented some crappy toy being able to buy his 17th yacht. We can fucking print out organs and we have people dying of the flu because they are too poor to go to the er. Like??? Tax the shit outta the rich. Take half their money. Idgaf.
And like conservatives are so quick to say its not fair to tax the fuck out of the rich, but then they say to people struggling that “life isn’t fair” like??? If anyone is getting screwed here I want it to be the guy who owns four mc mansions not the family of four living out of their car.

please DO NOT assume that just because my character is doing something that i as the writer
approve of it
am romanticizing it
have a kink with regard to it
think it is okay for anyone to ever do ever
because sometimes my character does things that I absolutely cringe at and which are almost painful to write.
but my writing a villain does not make me a villian
understand that it is fiction and I do not condone the wrong actions that sometimes are written out on my blog for in-character purposes.
The fact that some people don’t understand this boggles my mind.
Except it’s your responsibility as the author to show that you don’t approve of your character’s actions. If you keep rewarding your character in the story, if ppl love your character despite their shittiness, if that character gets to keep all their nice things, if there are no consequences for your character at all, and you don’t show it in a way that makes the reader understand that those lack of consequences are ironic or whatever, then what’s the difference? How do we know you’re not condoning their behavior?
Because sometimes shitty people get away with doing shitty things and never end up facing the consequences. If people can’t tell that what the person is doing is shitty or can’t determine if the author is celebrating the character’s actions that’s on the person.
If the reader can’t tell if the author is condoning shitty behavior it is absolutely on the author. Yes, ppl do shitty things without consequences all the time, but if the story is set up in such a way that the reader can’t tell if this behavior isn’t punished because the author condones it (see Family Guy “satire”) or because the story is based on a system that condones it and the author is demonstrating the shittiness of the system.
If written primarily from the villains POV it is possible that the authors voice and opinions never enter the narrative. A villain who finds nothing wrong with his actions will tell his story without a shred of regret.
Though I think this would only apply when the villain narrates. In any other case I agree with you because other characters should call the villains shitty behavior into question.
Then again there are cases where the author intentionally removes morality from the narrative to add a particular perspective to the story.
You’re making a big assumption that writers are always and completely “good.” No one is. Everyone can be awful, everyone can be great. Writing is always about taking pieces of yourself, your complete self, and making other full characters out of those pieces. In order to write good characters you have to understand the characters, so the reader can understand them. But readers can mix understanding with sympathy, which is why it’s important to tell the reader, “these actions are bad,” “this character is abusive,” because humans can be convinced if anything of the narrative is common enough.
