one of my favourite things about midnights is her sense of humour. it’s so subtle, it makes you chuckle at places and makes you constantly smile and smirk at other places. it feels like a joke she’s telling only to you and no one else can understand it; it’s special and personal. it feels like when you’re talking to your friend and you’ll go from “omg i hate myself kill me” to “xyz is literally not worth my time” and both those emotions are true and you mean them. it’s funny that we as humans are able to encompass them simultaneously. the album captures that so beautifully. i love it so much, it’s literally so great.

Midnights is a wild ride of an album and I couldn’t be happier that my co pilot on this adventure was Jack Antonoff. He’s my friend for life (presumptuous I know but I stand by it) and we’ve been making music together for nearly a decade HOWEVER… this is our first album we’ve done with just the two of us as main collaborators. We’d been toying with ideas and had written a few things we loved, but Midnights actually really coalesced and flowed out of us when our partners (both actors) did a film together in Panama. Jack and I found ourselves back in New York, alone, recording every night, staying up late and exploring old memories and midnights past. We were so lucky to also work with our brilliant collaborators Sam Dew, Sounwave, Lana Del Rey, Jahaan Sweet, Keanu Beats, William Bowery, and Zoe Kravitz. Laura Sisk was our excellent engineer. The wonderful and wise Beth Garrabrant took the album photographs. Midnights is a collage of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows. Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic or lonely. Just like Midnights. Which is out now

Okay, but the thing with Perry and Doof becomes a lot funnier when you remember that Perry, being a platypus, is immune to the virus.

So imagine Doof monologuing over Zoom, secure in the knowledge that Perry the Platypus can’t possibly thwart him over a video call, when Perry disappears from the frame. As he ponders where his nemesis could have gone, Perry plummets onto Doof’s balcony and socks him one in the jaw.

Doof: What?! Perry the Platypus?! What are you doing? You shouldn’t be out here! There’s a quarantine going on, in case you haven’t noticed!

Perry: *platypus noise*

Doof: Oh, right, you’re a platypus, and this is a human virus, so… You know, I don’t really know how I forgot that.

Perry makes sure to do a full decontamination on his way home, to make sure Phineas and Ferb don’t get any potential virus particles on them after petting him and picking him up.
