y’all might be thinking that small businesses would get the short end here. but the thing is, all the small businesses i’ve ever worked for or been involved with, when they didn’t have enough employees to cover the time, the owner worked it themselves, or they closed early/opened late.

the places that consistently shortstaff are big franchises, especially fast food chains. they prey on desperate workers who can’t afford to say no, and use them up like they’re disposable. it’s disgusting and it should be as illegal as hiring 9 year olds or holding paychecks hostage.

small businesses are discouraged from shortstaffing as it creates turnover they dont want to deal with and makes it far too easy for if one person calls in sick or quits then the whole place has to close entirely large businesses are encouraged to shortstaff as they actively calculate bonuses to management based on having as few people as possible to technically be able to run, and then subtract two because they could not care if they are short handed they just shaft the remaining workers with extra duties and no those duties dont go away when they hire someone those are permanent increasing incriments that mean your average worker today is doing what technically would have been three peoples job in the 70s
