Salaam! Ramadan Mubarak! Do you have any tips/advice for what to do during Ramadan when you’re on your period? Mine just started and it’s only the second day of Ramadan and it feels weird to not be fasting or praying. I’m reading the Quran, but I was wondering if you have any ideas about what else I can do? Thank you!
Wa alaykum as salam sister and Ramadan Mubarak to you and your loved ones 🌙
1) I recommend listening to tafseer videos. They're super helpful and really allow you to contemplate over the Quran and understand what you're reading. If you speak English, Nouman Ali Khan and Abdul Nasser Jangda have tafseer videos, and if in you speak Arabic - definitely check out to Sheikh Sharawy's videos. There will certainly be more available in other languages (Arabic, Urdu, etc.) as the amount available in English is kind of limited.
2) Seerah. You can check out seerah videos and try to learn more about the Prophet. I linked a Seerah playlist I enjoyed on my Linktree.
3) Other Islamic playlists. Another personal favorite is Bilal Assad's Life and Death lecture series, in which he covers the journey of the soul - from life, death, to the afterlife (and the difference in experience between the soul of a believer and a disbeliever). You can find that on my Linktree as well, and another recommendation is Omar Suleiman's lectures on Angel Jibreel. Super super emotional. If I find a link to the whole series, I'll try to put that up for you as well.
4. Acts of service. Give charity. Volunteer. Make food for someone you love. The one who feeds a fasting person gets the same reward as the one fasting, without it detracting from their reward.
5. Dhikr and duaa. I strongly recommend you wake up an hour before fajr (the last third of the night) and make duaa, even if you cannot pray tahajjud. The duaa made at this time is like an arrow that never misses its target. Ask for everything you wish and don't be shy to ask for anything, Allah is the Most Generous! And wallahi there's so much barakah in the duaas of this time. I still see the blessing in the duaas I made during Ramadan years ago to this day.
6. Share your reflections as you read Quran, listen to lectures, make duaa, etc. Type up your thoughts and share them with others, perhaps it will be what pushes them to read the Quran, make duaa, or listen to Islamic videos for the first time. Then it will be a sadaqah jariyah for you even in the grave. And if you don't want to share them, you can always just make a journal for yourself.
7. I know I said duaa already, but these duaas are so important imo that they deserve their own point haha. Ask Allah for Jannah constantly. Ask Allah to love you. Ask Allah to allow you to be of His close friends. Feel your connection with Him grow, so that when you can pray, you feel your imaan has reached new heights.
May Allah accept your deeds and bless you endlessly!
(Also I'm assuming you do this already, but if not - if you're reading Quran, make sure you're reading from a phone not the actual mushaf when you're on your menses inshaAllah!)
