third time's the charm || @likeacharacterinamusical & belinda chandra
She realized her mistake as soon as she set foot on the TARDIS. A TARDIS. But clearly not her TARDIS-... no. The Doctor's TARDIS. Oh, he really was starting to grow on her, wasn't he? She was going to have to keep an eye on that. How many big blue police boxes could she reasonably expect there to be floating around in the universe?
Unfortunately, there seemed to be some sort of security measure in place, because the moment she'd stepped inside, the doors had snapped shut behind her and refused to open again.
"Oh no, no, no, NO!" Belinda banged the flat of her palm against the door. It didn't budge. "Don't you dare! DON'T YOU DARE! HEY! Let me out! We are NOT doing this again! You cannot keep... KIDNAPPING ME! DOCTOR!"
Anyone who stepped into the Doctor's TARDIS would be struck by a few things. First: the roundels on the wall, reminiscent of the Doctor's pre-War console rooms; second: the pale blue lighting which permeated the space; and third, the security features which, in an attempt to keep invaders out, locked unwanted visitors in.
Was Belinda a fly in the spider's web?
Walking slowly, her boots clicking against the metal flooring, the Doctor stopped on the threshold, glasses resting on her nose, and stared at the young woman who'd entered her ship.
"How'd you get in here?" she asked. "Most people can't just walk onto my ship."
Belinda whipped around, heart leaping into her throat. Instinctively she pressed her back up against the doors, staring right back at the woman marching steadily across the console room.
"Your sh-... I used my key. I'm perfectly allowed-" She almost started to get offended, because what on earth did this stranger mean HER ship. And then it hit her. A sudden flash of clarity, bright as a burst of lightning. For a moment, she was back in Africa, standing beside The Doctor, listening to him explain his history with Omo... the way his body... changed.
Belinda searched the woman's face. Fixed on her eyes. Ancient, and full of star fire.
❛ do you ever feel like there's something missing ... like a piece of your heart is somewhere else? ❜ -from Luca @roisdevivre
yearning.
@roisdevivre
she's not good at this.
she never has been.
artemis a. crock is her father's child. she's brash, feels intense feelings--- but refuses to verbalize them. it comes to her naturally, the urge to bury all non-surface emotions is one she feels for all things. positive--- negative--- somewhere in-between. they are all buried deep down in her gut, only allowed to come out in bursts.
normally, a question like this might make her shut-down.
normally, she might make some deflective comment. change the subject to something that was easier for her to swallow--- but not tonight.
tonight, huddled by the fire, artemis shifts uncomfortably. pulling her blanket tighter around her shoulders, as she considers the question. yes, of course there were pieces of her heart missing--- but she's not sure it's in the way he means. the intimacy of his question leads her to believe that he was a romantic. she's not sure if the something missing was something she would ever be able to obtain.
"yes." her answer is firm, quiet. it takes a moment for her gaze to find his;; an uncomfortable, sad smile painting her expression as she finally does. that's the most she can answer for herself--- not without acknowledging the growing pit in her stomach. but it doesn't stop her from being curious about him.
"do you?" briefly, her mind shoots to the image of someone she thinks would fill that part of luca's heart. ---someone soft, she thinks. someone kind. all of the things she is rarely capable of being. her gaze snaps away from his for a second, glancing at the storm outside of the window behind him. ---another image of someone sweet and untamed passes through her head, making her chew on the inside of her cheek as eyes once again find his. "---i mean, do you want there to be?"
It hit him as soon as he felt the silence settle over the room. As soon as she shifted against him, her eyes focused momentarily on nothing, before they swing up to meet his.
She had a husband.
She doesn't anymore.
Fuck.
Luca felt his mouth go dry, his wolf stirring uncomfortably, claws raking against his belly and the inside of his chest. But he stayed quiet, waiting for... he wasn't sure what. Whatever Artemis was willing to give him, he supposed...
The question caught him as off guard as her eyes did. Deep, and guileless, and searching. The restless stirring in his chest was replaced by something else -- two sensations of longing warring inside his heart. One all too familiar, like a howl echoing on a moonless night, the other softer, something he didn't dare to name.
"... yeah." He followed her gaze, staring out at the storm, but unable to really see the thick flakes of snow racing past the window.
Yes. A piece of his heart was missing. More pieces of it than he could reasonably count.
Yes. Sometimes he dreamed about giving another little piece of himself away... to let what was left of all those broken bits reside for a while in someone else's chest.
Not that it was possible.
There was no going back. And if he was being honest, probably no chance of moving forward.
Luca shifted. Glanced back at Artemis, his gaze dropping for a fraction of a second to her mouth, before lifting back to her eyes again. He cleared his throat and glanced at the fire. "... I, uh... I used to have a Pack, back in the day, y'know? I don't anymore. I don't think I ever... mentioned that." Was he talking too much? Not saying enough? He felt like he was babbling, trying to smooth over the obvious and excruciating blunder... trying to give her space... a distraction... Nights like this, a woman like Artemis... somehow, blunders and all, it was almost easy to talk about something like the past...
12th Doctor hanging out with queer women for his entire run really went "man, you guys are so cool, mind if I become one of you" and didn't wait for an answer
Trench is kind of a hard one to pin relationships down for, because he so consistently isolates himself from others... And maybe things will develop or grow over the course of threads, but the thing that immediately pops out for me is him having a MENTEE / SUBSTITUTE CHILD figure in his life...
I think when Dylan was brought into the Bureau, Trench deliberately avoided developing any kind of bond with him, out of fear that he would corrupt / endanger him the same way he had Susanna. He was more than happy to let Darling handle everything to do with raising Dylan. That, ultimately, was a mistake, but they had no way of knowing it at the time.
But I would love to explore what that dynamic would look like (especially with Jesse, tbh) -- of him guiding and shaping a young agent's life, or a child outside of the Bureau... projecting all those feelings about Susanna and / or Dylan onto them as they grow closer, and seeing how that changes him and what it forces him to confront. His fears, his inadequacies, his arrogance, his paranoia, his grief... This man has ZERO LIFE outside of the FBC. Someone help me hold him down and forcibly tie him to one!

Haunted by personal tragedy, Trench has thrown the whole of himself into protecting and preserving the FBC. An adept parautilitarian in his own right. And yet he just can't seem to shake that ringing in his ears...

Something went wrong. Or, depending on your sense of justice, of moral outrage, of schadenfreude... Right. The last thing Zachariah Trench remembered was locking down his beloved Bureau and putting a bullet in his brain in a desperate final attempt to destroy... or was it release... The HISS. Next thing he knew, he was waking up in the FBC Morgue. Out of Commission. Retired. The Service Weapon might be in another Director's hands, but the work is never truly done. He is a company man, through and through, an agent first and foremost. The burden of responsibility has been lifted, but his duty is always and forever to the Bureau. There's no escaping that.
VERSES
No Rest For The Wicked (Main) - Zachariah Trench was revived by paranatural means [REDACTED], and continues to work for the Bureau, advising Director Faden where he can, and working to clean up the mess he left behind, back in the field where he belongs.
Everybody Wants The Big Chair (Director Trench) - After binding [REDACTED] and taking control of the Service Weapon, Zachariah Trench is now the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Still... something is bothering him... a pain... a ringing in the ears... Stress, probably. That's what everyone keeps telling him, anyway...
The Nostalgia Department (Pre-Canon / Ranger) - Zachariah's days as a young agent in the FBC. Following the loss of his daughter Susanna, and his wife Kate subsequently divorcing him, he has nothing to do but rise through the ranks. But he can't help but notice the strange goings on at the Bureau... the rising number of AWEs, and the unnatural power that seems to be coalescing around Director Northmoor...
SEE FULL CANON BIO HERE. Kidnapped as a child and raised in an elaborate experiment at the Federal Bureau of Control, Dylan has honed his paranatural abilities to a frightening and deadly degree. Powerful, maladjusted, and on the loose...
Spoilers included in Verses below the cut.
Following the events of CONTROL, when Dylan awakened from his coma he escaped containment and disappeared into the Oceanview Hotel and Casino. Haunted by the absence of the HISS presence and mistrusting of the "sister" he barely knows, he now resides in room 667, evading the FBC's forces, hunting for Casper Darling, and plotting his revenge.
VERSES
The Lost Cause (Main) - Dylan has finally escaped from The Oldest House. On his own for the first time, he struggles to find meaning, purpose and revenge in what remains of the ruins of his life.
Boys Will Be Monsters (Hiss / P6) - You are a worm through time. The thunder song distorts you. // They are HERE / HOME / NEVER LEFT. DYLAN / P6 / FAILED EXPERIMENT has embraced the full and terrible potential of his power. There is no turning back. // You are home. You remind us of home.
Agent Of Ill Fantasy (Director Dylan) - In which Dylan completes the Prime Candidate Program and becomes first an agent (Ranger) and eventually the Director of the FBC.
Treading On Reality (Post-Canon) - In which Dylan remains in the FBC's custody after awakening from his encounter with the HISS. He was created to become the next Director of the FBC... now that Jesse holds the Service Weapon, that path is forever closed to him. So what good is he now? Slowly but surely, with help from his sister, he is working to find healing and some sort of a place in a Bureau that no longer needs him.
Gone Mad With The Night (Alan Wake) - In which Casper Darling helps the Faden children to escape the aftermath of the Ordinary AWE. Instead of turning the pair over to Trench and the FBC, Darling sacrificed his own career and took the children to a small town called Bright Falls. Posing as Darling's twins, Jesse and Dylan were able to live a mostly normal life (barring occasional parautilitarian hijinks). Dylan works off the record in the Lake House, following in his adoptive father's footsteps, while trying to build a career as an artist, and juggling an on-again, off-again relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Rose Marigold. Lately, however, his art has been taking a more sinister turn... he feels himself frequently being drawn toward Mirror Peak and Cauldron Lake... and he can't seem to shake the feeling that he's being watched...
The Boy From Ordinary (Pre-Canon / Young Dylan) - Dylan growing up in Ordinary, and later within the Oldest House. Navigating his newfound powers and the Prime Candidate Program isn't easy... but if he succeeds, then one day, all the secrets of the FBC will be his.

I wrote a thingy and accidentally hurt my own feelings AND woke up P6… I’m uh… I’m gonna go set up a character dossier for him, but in the meantime, like this post for a short starter from the FBC’s most infamous failed experiment…
