A Reminder of Reality
I find that it is so easy to forget that we are living in a world where people are constantly suffering due to war, gangs violence, regimes, etc. because of the comforts and security I am fortunate enough to experience everyday. And I believe that many others who are fortunate enough like me to live in a safe neighborhood, have money and have basic necessities also often forget about or simply forget to sympathize with people who donât have what we have.Â
Sometimes it feels like the only time we find ourselves face to face with dictatorial regimes, rebel organizations, and revolutions are in the dystopian books littering our bookshelves, so distant and exciting and maybe even a little impossible. But we only have to flick our attention to the news for a few minutes each day to realize that, that we are terribly mistaken, that the violent, dystopian world of fiction is actually somebodyâs reality.
