Instead of a cutesie reference to film censorship it was an explicit statement of defiance of Maryland's criminalization gay sex, which was not repealed until 2002. This wasn't a guy saying "Oh they can't put what I do in the movies according to a completely voluntary industry code" he was saying "The State of Maryland wants to put me in jail for being gay and having gay sex."

It wasn't a guy being cheeky about sex in an ambiguous, cute way. It was a man stating, in no uncertain terms, that a whole state of the United States considered him a criminal for being homosexual.

something that chokes me up is how not only did herrah wish for hornet to choose her own path (rather than tread the path of reclamation and domination laid down by the weavers), but also that hornet honors that wish in service of pharloom. she could choose to defy any destiny to do with this haunted kingdom and still fulfill her mother's wish... but she chooses to stay and make right. she calls it a duty, but it is also a decision. liberating herself from her fate becomes liberating pharloom from its own - freeing this decaying land so that its people and pilgrims can rebuild it anew with wishes of their own. i love that silksong goes out of its way to emphasize that an abundance of strength and agency should be used to grant the same to others. it's a collectively minded message i think we need more of these days: it is not enough to walk your own path; have the compassion and determination to help others walk theirs.

Forgot how funny vash and wolfwood are in the manga. Imagine u save this guy in the desert, and he tells u that u have a nice smile and then immediately fucks off to who knows where and ur like. Ok probably never gonna see that guy again. And then 2 years after that when you've gone into retirement u find out that that one random guy has been looking for u the whole damn time and somehow he knows about ur evil brother??? So suddenly ur traveling together and this guy is acting like he's known u forever and casually insulting ur entire lifestyle and ur pretty sure he is maybe actually working for ur evil brother but like. What can u even really do about that. And then he becomes the most important person in ur life and then dies about it
