Happy New Year!

Gonna kick it off with a NEW POSTER! The first time I made one for Star Xrost, I was working on a prologue for something very different and ended up doing this SUPER action-packed dramatic piece. (Takes up too much space for this post but it’s on my IG)

I thought it was great back then because I tried to do it super professionally. But it never felt like the poster addressed my work for what it is because I was distracted by a different project then. So I tried something different this time & drew everyone with updated designs to my current style, and also with no focus on their abilities or any action poses. I drew them out explicitly expressing the personalities of each character and trying to emphasize them as individuals because that’s more true to Star Xrost.

Here’s what I got so far! I’ll share some speedpaints later if that’s cool

Aaaaand if it wasn’t obvious I have favorites, here’s homeboy again rocking that mask! Still no backgrounds cuz spoilers but I made a few adjustments here. He’s more streamlined since I switched a few brushes and knocked a few things off. Still not sure how I’m feeling about the mask tho, you tell me😅

Right, here’s an impromptu layout I made for Makani like I said. There are some deets in here that I already dropped, like the tattoos, but I wanted y’all to see the process of how this guy evolved! Since he was kinda complex, I’ve been toning him down a bit from this tho. His mask isn’t included here but I’ll render him again wearing it so you can see.

Y’all, here’s a full body design for Makani! There’s no background but whatever, ngl he’s just so fun to draw that I can’t stop. Glad to start wrangling some more dynamic poses (though I kinda messed up the perspective). I tested out some brushes and textures to see what works well with his outfit and it’s not bad!

I should get a layout going tho so that’s next

This isn’t quite finished, but I wanted Makani to wear a mask at the beginning of the story. Partly for his design and also because I think it’s cool and mysterious, makes for a good reveal early on. Idk is it too dumb looking? Ill have to see how it looks when I draw him wearing it

Guys turn!! Same setting as the last scrapbook I posted, though I will admit there might be some inaccuracies since I couldn’t source-check all my references. Y’all there is SO MUCH GOLD & SILVER on here but you can’t see it all cuz of the lighting😭 Anyway, guys were less easy to sketch this time cuz there weren’t as many varieties of clothing. Apparently men like this mostly had the same outfit but tailored in different colors with custom embroidery so, I made this page themed around TEXTILES! Don’t come for me tho cuz I did my best to replicate those complex designs (lowkey ran out of ink for some parts, but I’m thriving)!

Fun fact: Voags come in different shades of blue and sometimes have light/dark patches! This is part of their lore which I’ll spill later, can you guess what it is?

Since there are several themed-dungeons in my work, they each have KEYS! You probably can’t tell but it’s from the dream dungeon. (Not the easiest theme to depict) It’s a bit Card Captor Sakura, I know, but the others all look different! I wish I was better at explaining all the story elements I post about but it’s tricky to explain in the right order so once I get the basics out of the way, I’ll share more details lol

Saw some moots posting hand drawn and thought I’d join in!

So since y’all wanted to see more blue people, here are some fashion studies I scrapbooked and the tea: These people are called Voags (pronounced Vogue) and they are fish people that live in the sea. They are inspired by various ancient European cultures and YES they have their own language. Their customs, laws and dress code are also unique, so this page doesn’t technically reflect how they normally look. I knew that the Voags would mirror various aesthetics across different times, so I decided to backtrack and draw them out in period-accurate clothing first, so I can know how to later implement these designs into their real look! Below are doodles of female Voags wearing actual dresses from the Third Republic era of France (1870-1940). These are pretty bourgeois but I plan on doodling some for the poorer class and royalty.

There’s a whole lore to them that I’ll share later but what do you think?

BLAC Book:

This book is the encyclopedia of everything that is important to know in this world. It’s divided into four categories; B.L.A.C being an anagram for Bestiary, Lexicon, Atlas and Compendium! The Bestiary displays images and info on various beings that might be encountered at some point. The lexicon features a vocabulary of relative terminology, as well as writing systems and transcriptions of other languages. The atlas is where all the maps and floorplans (i.e. towns, forests, dungeons, etc.) are held. The compendium is where data about important topics of the lore, (like fated four, Auras, Blight, etc…) are stored.

When I first made this book, I was planning on filling it with a lot more content. The bestiary especially was meant to be brimming with all kinds of creatures; Some I made up, some were hybrids, and some were just commonly known myths. But as I started to develop and focus on more of the story, I realized that was kind of a lot. So the blac book was and still is very important, but I will probably tone down those parts. Haven’t fully decided which way I’m going with the flora and fauna in terms of worldbuilding, but that will be reflected in it🌿

So as I was working out the kinks to update my current style I thought I’d use a completely different character for color-testing! This one has nothing to do with the story arc but the blue skin was great for bug testing and I liked it too much not to share! I mentioned in a previous post that my story does have con-races incorporated into the world building and this is one of my FAVORITES but what do you think? Any opinions or questions, let me know cuz I have a ton more concepts of these people that it’s taking me all my strength not to gush in front of y’all
