Her Mother’s Pipe-cleaners
-An assortment of beautiful bold colors, laying around the desk, in clay pottery mugs, used for art projects. She would chew, play, and destroy her mother’s pipe cleaners for enjoyment, mostly throughout the night.
-An adventure. A trip to the unknown. But, soon she figured out that it was mostly a drive to the doctor. Crying in the crate-to an office that smelled of alcohol, litter, and biscuits. She would run or hide under the bed when the crate was taken out of the closet. She wouldn’t go into the create without some sort of altercation.
-Her mother, suitcase in hand, gave her a quick kiss, and walked out the door and down the driveway. It seemed as if she was walking towards eternity.
-A rarity for her type and somewhat a fetish-she loved the smell of children’s tylenol. It was a delight when her mother would stay home all day and cuddle in bed with her. She would lick the night table, hoping for some tylenol residue which there usually was.
-Her mother almost stayed home one day, even though she was perfectly well. In the middle of the night, Penny bit the hand off the water Baby doll. Her mother was soaked. When she woke up, Penny’s grandmother thought her daughter had a horrible fever, and thought she was drenched in sweat. The hand out of the water baby was found chewed up on the pillow. Her motives were questioned.
-In her later years, around the time of her sister’s death, the family welcomed Oliver-her new brother. Penny wasn’t too fond of the “new guy.” She was afraid that he would take all of her mother’s attention.
-If food or plants were left on the table, unsupervised, She wanted to claim it. Her grandmother usually caught her in the act and shoo’d her off the table.
Nothing but fond and beautiful memories of my feline orange best friend of 22 years. She will always be in my heart, and her name tattooed on my forearm. A calming grey stone in the backyard which reads, “Dear sweet brave little lady-
