Overall, I think it would be twice as devastating for the Company to witness not only Thorin's change, but Bilbo's as well. I'd say their relationship is build on a mutual reinforcing codependency - they keep pulling each other deeper into obsession with their presssious treasures, possessiveness, suspicion etc. That would make any outside intervention incredibly difficult and it's unlikely to reach their ears.

The dwarves are fiercely loyal, especially to their Kings and the Line of Durin. I don't think we'd see anything else than quiet acceptance in Erebor, even though a glum one.

I think a possible bagginshield implied fic could be set during the beginning of the journey of the fellowship of the ring.

And gimli, being a dwarf, able to start being suspicious of some slight dwarf qualities Frodo has (Frodo being a mostly hobbit looking bagginshield baby) and whenever gimli asks the other hobbits about it they’re like “oh no that’s normal. Frodo’s always been taller than the average hobbit, with less hair on his feet, and an eye for gemstones, and has to shave…”

Then gimli starts to put together thorin’s involvment in Frodo’s existence, especially Gandalf mentioning the mithril shirt. that’s when gimli freaks the fuck out

Decided to try out some new brushes and also colour this piece (finally). I’ve seen some other artists draw this sort of half dragon, half dwarf gold sick Thorin and really liked the concept! As one my friends said, he looks like a sopping wet cat on your door step, couldn’t agree more lmfao.
