Working on a little something before we head into my next DND campaign
When you come to be sensibly touched, the scales will fall from your eyes; and by the penetrating eyes of love you will discern that which your other eyes will never see.
Captain Orimar Vale | There Are No Kings
Small preview of a painting I'm working on of my new DND character Ferox. It's a beautiful day and he's mad about it. 💞
This is wild, considering pretty much all of the art on the blog is for Skyjacks, but I feel like I do need to be upfront to everyone who follows me from the fandom. I do not expect I will be making any more Skyjacks fanart. It's unfortunately been a slow but consistent decline in interest re: the main show (couriers call is still my beloved) for a variety of reasons I won't get into.
I don't know what art I will be making in the future.
Perhaps another podcast will come along. Or I'll really deep dive into danmei. Or it will just be original art. Either way, I totally understand if folks who came looking for Skyjacks decide to unfollow!
Thanks to everyone who has supported me as I've started dipping my toes into digital painting!

I never reblogged it with notes on the design, because I was so happy to have it Finished (tm) after absolutely untold hours but here's some behind the scenes:
- The pose and general inspiration comes from 18th century portraiture, specifically of King Louis XIV
- He's holding Dref's heart :)
- For those in the tags screaming, yes he is stepping on a torn red feather flag. The design came from the Skyjacks zine vol 1! Trying to render it as a crumpled flag was yet another trial designed to keep me humble
- he has a pirate hat instead of a crown because I think pirate hats are neat :)
- The Uhuru is flying in the top right background. I think canonically the balloon doesn't glow red?? But I made a choice
- I redid the background three times before embracing the fact that portraits were painted with fake nonlogical backgrounds anyways.
- The design of the coat is based off of when Mx. Blade describes Orimar as having a deep blue coat embroidered with stars. I like an over the top star patterned royal coat, because it works symbolically as a mantle of The Sovereign and also of Orimars desire to enshroud himself with lower case sovereignty.

adjusted my commission info for 2022! more details and examples on my carrd 😊
I’m almost free for work again. Henlo 👁️👁️
Hornet "The Wasp" Beeman
Headcanons which informed her design:
Hornet is from the Honeysmoke mountains, where she learned how to cook. Her bee pin is from her hometown which is famous for putting the "honey" in Honeysmoke.
Her red capelet, made from a Red Feather Captain's coat, denotes her as a captain beneath Orimar Vale
Just because she has become a captain does not mean Hornet has neglected the practicalities of ship life. She still wears her apron and finds a kitchen knife to be her weapon of choice.
Line Tender
Notes on this design:
Line Tender's design was specifically inspired by the history of piracy in the East China Sea
Her clothing is a mix of East Asian (Chinese and Japanese) influence with a touch of fantasy. Her top is adapted from silhouette's typical of the Qing Dynasty and her pants are adapted from Japanese Hakama.
The back of her outer top has a crane medallion (unseen) in reference to the crane wife, The Loom, and sacrifice. The color of her top, white, is based upon traditional Chinese mourning colors.
I couldn't pin down her first appearance in canon so take this design with a grain of salt ✨

Bonus:
Sometimes you have to use your Lizzo merch and make your own hyper specific reference.
