Framed some letterpress prints recently. Gold ink on black plague doctor, d'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers, and skull. Don't recall the printer sadly as I got these a year ago. They were very nice and gave me some printing tips.

Did some recent art direction on a look book for a film about a viral epidemic and a girl who goes through some crazy events to acquire a vaccine. Iām a fan of thrillers like 28 Days Later so it was a fun exercise to figure out the aesthetic for this. Collaborated with photographer Bryan Patterson on the shoot starring the fantastic model Nicole Caggiano.Ā
Had in mind a very retro inspired feeling, with lots of rough grain and muted color grading. Been listening to 80ā²s style outrun music which definitely informed the look as well.
These are a few of the art boards for the project which included designing the logo, typography, and visuals.
Been going to the local Drink n' Draw & Dr.Sketchy's more regularly. Here are some of the latest sketches from this past month. Really finding it rewarding to draw once again.
The Olympia Theatre in Downtown Miami. A historic landmark built in the early 1920's. Taken during my visit to the city. I really enjoy the two variants of sans serif used on the facade, the front arched type and the condensed/ heightened arch of the sides of the marquee. Both were designed thoughtfully and look wonderful when lit at night.
Neon type on Miami's Wynwood Art District.
I recently acquired these delightful catalogues from the The Strand's collection. The restrained design aesthetic is as pleasing as it is functional and looks wonderfully modern even now. Due in part to the excellent use of Linotype Univers 630 Basic Bold on a single color backgrounds. Makes for legibility and easy differentiation between volumes or 'Archives'. I'll briefly touch upon the photography in the interior by stating how exceptional it is. Great photography, design, and layout. What more could you want? Vintage Neon Type
Iāve noticed that Liquor Stores tend to retain their original neon signs for much longer than most other places.
Seeing that thereās never truly a lack of demand, owning a liquor store likely was and continues to be a reliable business.
Ownership may change hands over the years but the neon signs remain (much like a brand or logo would) to illicit a sense of trust from patrons.
More often than not the type is in the Art Deco style. Harkening back to better times such as the roaring twentyās.
These examples were spotted in Queens, NY and Washington, D.C.
