The Jedi as an organization is flawed but as an actual religious belief system it’s not wrong or bad. They simply became disconnected from their ideals, becoming enforcers of the will of the republic/senate instead of the will of the force.

That’s why Luke becoming a Jedi is considered a victory, even though the last two Jedi council members (Yoda and obiwan) wanted him to destroy Vader the same as Palpatine had. He restores the Jedi order by going against the wishes of the old masters

It’s also why Ahsoka leaving the Jedi order to preserve the Jedi way that’s she (accurately) perceives as being corrupted by the war is framed as a good thing.

like i’m never Not going to be over the lost potential storylines of the First Order stormtroopers. obviously there are so many ways it could have been explored in the Sequel Trilogy but like what about the Mandalorian??

why in the world did they go with the cloning experiment subplot? What if the Imperial remnants decided that the best way to wipe out the Mandalorians was to hit em where it really hurts on an emotional, cultural level that would cut them to their core by targeting their foundlings? WHO would be more horrified at the concept of children being ripped from their homes to become brainwashed soldiers stripped of their identity/heritage than MANDALORIANS?

and this could have easily explained the lack of Mandalorian presence in the Sequel Trilogy. the First Order specifically targeted rebel and republic-aligned families for harvesting children, so the Mandalorian kingdom withdrawing and going back into hiding to protect their own by themselves rather than directly joining the Resistance makes perfect sense within the story.

It should also be mentioned that while sidelining Din in his own show is of course aggravating and awful, please also be aware of the erasure of Boba Fett and Temuera Morrison’s influence on Mandalorian culture. Ever since Dave Filoni stepped into star wars he has done pretty much everything he could to erase any traces of Temuera’s impact regarding mando culture.

Mandalorian culture was built from the ground up based on Temuera’s casting as Jango, his identity, and Polynesian inspiration. Even if it wasn’t always well executed at all. The fact that it was based around him and his culture matters and should’ve been elaborated upon to be better, not erased. Tem is super vocal about how particular he is about the roles he chooses and how he tries to inject his own culture into each of his characters.

People like to cite that it wasn’t DAVE’S choice to state that the Fetts weren’t mando in clone wars. But he did not have to thoroughly purge Mandalorian culture of any Polynesian influence and remake it into a blonde white colonial kingdom. In Mando Season 3 Bo-Katan’s history and the History of Mandalore was rewritten so she could be reframed as an innocent princess… at the cost of erasing Boba Fett’s identity and his heritage of Jango and Jaster as protecting rulers of Mandalore.

The total lack of care towards Boba’s character is most obvious in The Book of Boba Fett, where he was given the same sidelining treatment + ridiculous meaningless hijinks that Din is currently experiencing. Tem’s influence is even being removed from the CLONES, sidelining their importance and agency just to uplift and center around the white clones that look and sound nothing like Tem.

I think my big question for this season was:

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF IT?

no because really. what was the point? The show’s lack of object permanence has already been discussed by smarter people but like it truly is so dumb. In Season 2 they broke the formula of “episodic adventures of baby and bounty hunter” that literally everyone loved and was excited about, just to shrink the universe by shoving in some egregious cameos and forcing Mando to tie-in to the main Skywalker story.

But hey, Din has the Darksaber and is seeking redemption for his Creed, Grogu is going to train as a Jedi… I guess we’re leaving the old formula behind but it’ll be interesting to see how these characters and their arcs develop from here!

Nope, everything gets reset almost immediately. Din and Grogu reunite, Din immediately fulfills his redemption quest and then immediately passes the Darksaber to Bo-Katan. The show becomes about Bo-Katan sudden being an angel that everyone is fawning over for no reason. Also the Darksaber EXPLODES. And then it’s treated like no biggie and Bo-Katan gets coronated anyways. If there was a theme building towards “a sword should not be what our people rely on to choose a ruler” then this would be good. But this season has done nothing but hype up it’s importance, so what was the point of destroying it?? So Bo-Katan is the new ruler of Mandalore (for the third time) despite having done absolutely nothing to earn it except for the fact that the show wrote her an entire new personality and character history.

Now Din is back to being a regular bounty hunter (that’s now WORKING FOR THE COPS?), but both him and Grogu had no real character development or growth whatsoever. It’s a pointless nothing plot for a pointless nothing season.

They undid every single writing choice they made without giving an actual reason for it besides “uh oh how are we supposed to stretch out this show for more money if we give everyone a satisfying arc? Better hit that reset button”

darth vader and the ninth assassin #2 so, aside from the ABSOLUTE comedy of vader taking the opportunity to just ragdoll palpatine to save his life - i am choosing to believe that, for vader, this is a really petty move, like he’s channeling some work-related frustrations into this. palpatine has him on the 24/7 shift on the front lines of the Forever Wars, and palpatine keeps blocking his requests for time off. that second panel is absolute comedic gold. but aside from that, which is still very, very important, i want to note how much vader values not just loyalty but loyalty to palpatine; he doesn’t kill the royal guards who kneel, and in fact spends the rest of the comic hanging around with them. he scares the fuck out of them by killing the ones who aren’t fast enough, but the fact that they knelt to the throne has spared their lives - legends had a pretty consistent theme of emphasizing vader’s staunch Palpatine-Related Jingoism, which i like a lot better compared to marvel’s recent interpretations of a vader who is always looking for an opportunity to take palpatine down. i think a key motive for our guy is that his connection to palpatine is personal; politics is not politics, that’s his Dad Grandfather Master Dude, and the only thing he has left in the galaxy.

then, the fact that this is yet another in a handful of moments where vader gently (gently! gently!) helps palpatine and then swears eternal vengeance on whoever would DARE hurt the emperor - i mean, that’s just fucked. i mean, that’s just really fucked. you know what’s fucked? looking at the guy who played your entire life like a fiddle, who has remade you in such a fashion that your own mother wouldn’t recognize you, and going THAT’S MY BESTIE <3

Still find it absolutely hilarious that the Prime Minister literally says the first time we meet him that "All of [Mandalore's] warriors were exhiled to our moon Concordia. They died out years ago" and then later Satine says "The sheer number of mining facilities [on Concordia] nearly destroyed [the] forests. They're finally growing back" which when paired together means that all the people who didn't agree with Satine's reforms were sent there to die, yet a bunch of people in fandom are still like "Whooooo! Gaslight gatekeep girlboss! What no? Of course Satine didn't do anything bad? Girl power!" Like damn okay that's like if I said that Maul didn't murder all of those people on Raydonia just because I think he's a fun character and we didn't technically see him do it lmao wild. Like babes what are you talking about that's a genocide. And I'm not judging being fans of a genocidal character it's just so goddamn funny to me that literally the only positive Kryze posts I see completely ignore that she very literally did a genocide. Exhiling all of your political enemies who oppose your social, political, and cultural reforms to a barren moon to die is genocide.

Artist Thoughts!!:

Most alien designs in Star Wars (especially the ones present in the earlier films) were built as costumes to fit over-top of actor’s heads. Few of these alien species were designed to be compatible with a fully-closed helmet, because production simply didn’t need a Twi’lek or a Rodian to ever be in full armor in the films. If the costume was gonna be on screen, they wanted to show off the alien’s latex head, not what kind of helmets that species would’ve built to fit themselves.

 The solid helms that fit on humans and near-humans -that come off as whole pieces of armor, probably aren’t feasible for a majority of the cooler non-human aliens due to the fact that they’d have to get around horns and weird head shapes in order to slip a helmet off. Either their helmets are huge and silly-looking or they’re piece-meal, in separate sections; a bit like a good chestplate!

Detachable face plates and caps for these helmets allow the Mandos to show their faces, eat, and get some fresh air without needing to dismantle the frame that’s protecting their montral, horns, eye-stalks, etc. These helm designs probably take longer to put on (or not, alien Mandos probably git good at suiting up quicklike- Humans ain’t special) but they offer the same degree of protection as a Human Mando’s fully enclosed helm.

- For species like Togruta with cool as fuck sensory organs like their montral, their helms would probably be designed to protect without mitigation, or at least with as little mitigation as possible, of that sensory input. I imagine my Togruta Mandos have dampening on their montral to protect them from the potentially harmful effects of being next to ship engines firing, or large ordnance, just like regular helms protect human ears from the same things without completely blocking their ability to hear shit.

I love my Mandalorians diverse, forget what recent canon has told you because the Mandos were always a culture, never a select few species, and they’re far cooler that way.

Obi Wan Kenobi said "I loved you" when he left Anakin to burn to death in agony on Mustafar.

Certain people like to claim these words "prove" he did not fail to put him out of his misery because he wanted him to suffer.

Class, can you tell me why this is stupid?

Yes, there at the back. He was talking in the past tense. Correct. Not the present tense. He did not say "love".

He said "loved". As in "I did love you previously, in the past but I do not anymore".

Ergo, it is perfectly logical to assume that he did, indeed, want him to suffer.

Really quite simple.

Yeah, Obi-Wan tries to pretend like he’s so “above it all” next to Anakin in that scene, but when you see his characterization throughout both the OT and PT movies, he’s really not a very good person most of the time himself, even if he often learns to convince himself that it was “for the best.”

He’s actually quite arrogant, deceitful, impatient, in-denial, insensitive, hypocritical, manipulative, and pretty horrifyingly cruel and vindictive in his punishments of enemies who personally betray him, hurt him, or hurt people he cares about. For instance, even before cutting off Anakin’s limbs and leaving him to burn alive on Mustafar, there was also that time he too brutally slaughtered Darth Maul by chopping off his limbs before killing him to make him suffer for killing his master Qui Gonn who he looked at as somewhat of a father figure. If it were just about killing them in self-defense or “for the greater good,” Obi-Wan would just get it done with as quickly and painlessly as possible in those cases.

However, it was clearly not just about killing Anakin and Darth Maul in self-defense or because they were Sith that Yoda ordered him to kill. Obi-Wan was feeling very personally angry, betrayed, heartbroken, and vindictive against them for hurting him and/or those he loved in those moments, which is why he deliberately prolonged their suffering more than was necessary in those duels against them, rather than just killing them as quickly and painlessly as possible.

The writers of Disney Wars have been woobifying him in recent years, but the Obi-Wan from GL and Legends canon is definitely not a saint, even if he generally believes he has good intentions, and is also a product of a broken Jedi Order.

I've had this fic idea rattling around inside my brain for years, about a Padawan dying on the battlefield. The scene was recorded by a reporter, and broadcasted across news media.

Battles are chaos. Blasterfire from all sides, as droids and clones and Jedi fight. The Padawan's lightsaber is a blur as she redirects blaster bolts, until she doesn't. Her saber falls as she collapses. Clones fight and die alongside her, but it's only the 14 year old Padawan who is noticed. She's older than the Clones are, but she looks younger. Most importantly: she has family outside of the Jedi Order. And her family watch the news.

She was a child, and she should not have been fighting a war. She was a child, and she was sent out against an army of unfeeling droids. She was a child, and how many more parents have children in the Jedi Order? She was a child, and how many more children are fighting in this war?

She was a child, and it was only by chance that her death was recorded by someone willing to share it. How many more are dying, unseen?

And protests rage outside of the Jedi Temple as parents try to get their children back from the Order.

The Mandalorian warriors were exiled to a dead moon. It had once been fertile agricultural land, but mines had long since poisoned its earth and stripped its once green fields barren. The Mandalorian warriors were sent to die. Whether by war or by starvation was not the concern of the people who sent them; they would focus on rebuilding their homes, comforted by the knowledge that no blood was spilt by their hands. The New Mandalorians were a peaceful people, after all.

Kind of want to write a story about Mandalorian culture, but rooted (haha) in agriculture. The plants they bred for their own food, pepper varieties you can't find anywhere else. And ones that can't be found at all anymore, as more and more plants were lost in the conflicts that happened, even before the Purge. Wars destroying seeds that had been saved for generations. Only the oldest of them can remember the food that no one else will ever taste.
