A little Throwback Sunday*

A Sacrifice to Love  (Sacrifício ao Amor) This was a project I very much enjoyed doing. Illustrating Afonso Cruz’s text was quite the immersive experience (I’m sorry it’s only in Portuguese format >:)

In this excerpt we are faced with what I interpreted to be a “kind of” abusive relationship, where “a little boy” (or rather insect) does everything to please Frantiska and even when there are little hints of “aggression” he is fine with it, because it is a Sacrifice to Love.  Yet everything is told in a “child life” perspective so, yet again, most people probably wouldn’t interpret like this, but since it is a subject that truly concerns me I choose to see it as so.  Nevertheless Frantiska is presented to us as this “perfect little goddess” who just enjoys life as throw her eyes, while little Sors would bow down to this prophetic character (because her reason to be must be much greater than his, he’s only an insect).

_____________________________________________________________ This project is already two years old but I feel like it was an important mark to me, just for the feeling of starting and finishing a “book”, from illustration to editing to printing. And so I’m not yet so willing to let it fade to the forgotten projects category, I’m just sorry I didn’t post this sooner ;O;

I was finally able to upload a better version of these A3 drawings. Waited 4 years for a decent scanner but I wasn't ever waiting the outcome of this update...

My long time old bby passed away last Saturday. I knew nothing of it because I was stuck in Manchester's airport (but that's another story). I honestly do not know what to say, there are no words to describe how kind this Dog (capital D) was to me. He listened to my tears, kept my secrets and knew my crushes. He always knew when I was sick or sad and just stayed there. On the last few years I wasn't very present at home (because I was away for college) and he was getting older and older, it was harder to move, he couldn't jump to my bed anymore.. And still from time to time he just appeared in my bedroom, when I was there, asked me to put him in my bed and pet him for half an hour... It felt great to be so loved. And I hope he felt loved as well.

I used to joke that he was a Farao in a past life because he always sit so elegantly. Because he had eyeliner matching mine. I'll have to stop writting because I can't handle my tears... I just wanted you to know you were the best dog I could have ever wished for...
