Last New Year's, I redrew a screenshot of Gwen and Cody, with the former getting a redesign, but not the latter. The image would become especially popular on Pinterest where people would frequently point out the juxtaposition to humorous effect.

So to make the joke go full circle, this year, I'm doing the inverse.

This is also the first time I'm drawing Gwen with her canon design, funnily enough.

Meanwhile, I had no idea what do do with Cody's design (fashion is already not my strong suit, but typical men's fashion is especially hard to play with because any small change can make a major change in impression) but I threw a bunch of stuff together and hoped for the best.

The hate Cody sometimes gets kind of bothers me.

Yes, he’s pervy and annoying. Yes, he’s a bit overly-persistent. But he really, really doesn’t strike me as a jackass “nice guy” like Dave. At no point did Cody get angry at Gwen for rejecting him, or make angry personal attacks because she had the nerve to reject him. He really really wanted to go out with her, but Cody never actually seemed to think that Gwen OWED it to him. He doesn’t project any negative feelings onto her, and he doesn’t treat her rejection as a violation of his rights.

Plus, once it was very clear that Gwen was NOT into him and that was not likely to change, Cody stopped trying to win her over–he even tried to help Gwen get together with Trent, and after that Cody leaves her alone.

Yeah, he started it up again a little during World Tour, but at that point Gwen was single again, and Trent and Gwen had been broken up for nearly a year.
