When I was a kid I asked my grandma what a certain sound was that I always heard outside. She then told me all about cicadas. Even showed me a book with photos and explained the different noises they make and their reasonings. Since then I was always intrigued by “the big flies that scream in the trees”. Now every time I hear them, without fail, I think of her. Naturally when I decided I wanted to try drawing an insect, the cicada was my first choice.
