What do macrovolutes eat? I know some plant species grow larger than usual, but all of them? Like, a monarch caterpillar can eat giant milkweed? Or are there no more monarchs? And if insects and arachnids are sapient, how is predation addressed? Especially if one specific species primarily eats another specific species(ex. cicada killers and cicadas)? Is it murder, or is there a permit for killing and consuming certain species?

There are still plenty of monarch butterflies, and yes, they do prefer giant milkweed! However, macrovolutes can tolerate a broader diet than their protocule counterparts. Eating people is forbidden among the Swarms on Formicosa, so instead carnivores eat demivolutes like millipedes and isopods, as well as giant aeroplankton.

That doesn't stop the ants from processing lawbreakers for protein, of course...

I really love your art and I was wondering if you had any art tips?

I'm pretty good at drawing realistically, but I struggle with more stylized or cartoon-y stuff...

Here I’m going to talk about the two, in my opinion, the most important aspects of stylization is: ‘Simplification’ and ‘Exaggeration’

First, simplification,

I took this picture of a man holding a hammer, if you just look the silhouette, it is very complicated the pose is stiff

Try summarize the pose with only two simple lines, one representing the head, torso and the leg, the other representing the arms. This is the line of action. Now you got the two lines, play around with it try make it flow better. (Google ‘line of action’ you can find a lot more better examples)

The next step is to simplify the previous drawing throw away all the bumps and little details, take what you think is the most important and draw it based off the line of action you just acquired. this step might take a lot of practices so look at tutorials and draw a lot you’ll get there (Go on YouTube and search ‘life drawing tutorial’ they teach this step really well)

This is how you simplify a complicated pose! I’ll talk about how to simplify character after the next point

Second is exaggeration

I’m using the same photo here again blocking the person black so we can see the silhouette clear. This time we’re not finding the line of action, we’re reducing this person into a simple shape, to me, he looks like a rectangle.

After blocking out the simple rectangles, exaggerate them, make the big ones even bigger, the small ones even tinnier.

Make the main focus of the drawing clear and easy to see, the audience needs to be immediately on that thing the moment this drawing shows up! What’s the focus point of the drawing? The hammer, it’s too small for one to find so let’s exaggerate it make it huge.

Tada, now you have a clear and cartoony silhouette, the rest you can fill in however you like

To cartoonify a character is easy, similar to how you cartoonify poses, you take out the little details and leave what you think is the most important, the things that makes the character unique, and exaggerate them

((Here I’m using a genshin character because their character designs are known for being a hell to animate (genshin fans don’t come for my ass this is only for educational purposes))))

I just had a weird dream about an OFF au invented by someone on this site. I know it’s not even close to canon, but you know what the ghost said: “everything is canon.” So I thought it would be worth sharing.

Before events of OFF: Once upon a time there was a huge pandemic. Although it wasn’t that fatal, the disease seriously messed up people’s heads, to the point of trying to murder anyone/thing in sight. Especially loved ones. They didn’t seem to age, sort of like a zombie virus without active decay. It was also incredibly contagious, but that’s important later. It was so bad that most healthy people forgot that the infected were still actual human beings, so “putting down” loved ones became a normal occurrence.

The Cure: Then, during some highly experimental 80s style research, a definitely not licensed doctor discovered that the disease could be cured by slowly replacing the patient’s blood with oil. Side effects included: severe memory loss, body disfigurement, emotional instability, and childlike learning/imprinting behaviors (among other things). As a result, a Cave Johnson-esque person(can’t remember if it was the person who discovered the cure or not) decided to use the cure as a sort of re-education tool. Discount Cave basically cured these people for free, brainwashed them, stuck them in uniforms and rented them out as a semi-competent labor force.

Government: Obviously, it didn’t take long for these cured people to be selectively brainwashed for specific tasks based on demand, like blue collar or white collar work. Or the military. That’s how Discount Cave got into the government. Since he provided the armies and several countries wanted his backing, governments gave him more and more power (and money) to use his resources. He eventually used this to take control of these customer governments and integrate them into a multinational corporation/governing entity.

Holocaust: From there, he could pretty much do whatever he wanted, so he started having his minions capture millions of sick people(who the public didn’t care about) and quite a few healthy people too. He claimed the disease had infected people without anyone noticing. He turned out to be right, because the cure worked the same for the not crazy violent people as it did everyone else. Since the disease was so contagious, most, if not everyone was already infected, just not everyone went crazy trying to kill people. Discount Cave used the resulting panic to justify putting all his dissenters in trains and brainwashing them too.

Relapses: Unfortunately the emotional instability of the “cured” individuals was not conducive to constant slave labor. Resulting in more than a few “relapses”. Relapses are basically the Elsens when they become burnt. Their oil-blood explodes out their heads and they go back to trying to kill everyone. Some people find a way to stop the relapses at home, but the majority of relapsed people just got killed.

Rebellion: Some people rebelled against Discount Cave and ended up either killed by relapsers or brainwashed. Eventually Discounted Cave is killed by a rebel mole who had been his protégé. This mole was Enoch. Now without a leader/father figure, the relapse rate grew out of control and the remaining “uncured” citizens were literally ripped apart. Followed by the “relapsed” ripping each other apart.

The Room: The events in Hugo’s picture took place, but instead of Japhet helping Enoch out of a literal hole, he helped Enoch out of the metaphorical hole caused by killing Discount Cave. He somehow either got rid of the “relapsed” population or he got them back to their brainwashed selves the same way some did during the relapse outbreak.

TL;DR:

The cure to the Zombie Pandemic is used to take over the world. Enoch kills big baddie and Japhet helps.

Edit: Animals were also infected, however their symptoms were somewhat different. Pablo and Valerie were pet cats that left their owner after the pandemic started. Japhet was a wild bird who gained sentience around the time relapses started happening.

Everytime I see you use Russian in your art all I think is. That looks so cool! Like it looks like a secret code!

kinda yeah! :D Russian alphabet is pretty funny: there are a lot of upside down letters and letters that look like numbers!

Most Land people lived in heavily populated metroplexes. About half spent their entire lives inside large black buildings smothered in a chemical fog. The other half fed on and disposed of the garbage produced by the first. All Land people were very decadent, what neither half wanted, was thrown from the streets into foul smelling piles in the center of the community. However, the communities bordering oceans, threw their garbage into the sea. Luckily, the Land person of focus was not in such a community.
