Confusion hit the forefront of her mind, unable to fully process just exactly what was going on. The incredible sensation of the other’s presence left her weary, as she found herself fully capable of feeling the other, but not realizing the capacity at which things were being held at.
She called back out, the simply phrase keeping even herself on her toes. “Is anybody there?” She could feel them, but she wasn’t even sure if the other could hear her, let alone understand her, especially if this was a product of the Upside-Down, as Mike and the others had kept referring to it as. Whipping around after a bare moment, she saw him, the moment her heart leapt out of her chest and her stomach sank lower. Fear struck the girl almost immediately as she saw the eyes, a sure sign that he was more foe than friend. Practically stumbling backwards, El tried to keep herself calm, to not let the other know that she could hear her own heartbeat as panic set in. “Who are you?”
Is anybody there?
Her voice is quiet, distant, like he's hearing her from beneath a pool of water, yet he can't mistake the words for anything else. It's as though he knows the question even if he can't really make out the words. She turns and suddenly jolts- and there's no mistaking that she can see him too when she took a step back... nearly stumbling.
What is this-? His own question hangs silently in the air, unspoken, and slowly he takes a step forward. It's as though the world around him melts away- as though he'd never even set foot in the steelworks- and all he can see is himself and the girl in pitch blackness... the sound of water in his ears. Another question from the girl- Jack tilts his head a bit like some curious yet cautious animal.
Who are you?
"Jack." He says simply- because in truth that's all he can offer. "I feel like tha's a trick question though, little one-" He's got a southern accent... Jack takes another cautious step forward, eyeing the girl with interest. He can feel... something on her- something strange- not quite like this place or whatever things had left their mark on this town yet not quite like him either. "How'd y' find me-?"

"Trick or fucking treat?"
Jack raises a brow as he answers the door, cigarette hanging loosely between his lips, and leans in the doorway as he stares up at Billy. “Aren’t you a little old to be trick or treating, Hargrove?” He asks, lips twitching into a little smirk. Jack couldn’t judge though- who didn’t like free candy?

Hopper chuckled softly, sticking his hands into his jacket pockets to keep from attempting to fiddle absently with his watch. Though it was fairly warm in the haunted house, it was still chilly outside. Hopper had lived almost his entire life in Hawkins among farms and fields, but he had a feeling Jack wasn’t from around some place like this. Certainly he had quite the accent.
“Well, they didn’t really have places like this when I was growing up. Think it’s got something to do with the popularity of all the horror films in recent years. But we did dare each other to go explore old rickety houses in the middle of the night.”
When the masked man yelled at them, Hopper tensed slightly but didn’t really react other than that as they hurried along. He’d heard the man shouting, so it wasn’t surprising. However, when a bang sounded and Jack bumped into him, he jumped, turning to see a girl with decidedly horrific makeup.
“Jesus!” he yelped, grabbing hold of Jack’s shoulder and roughly hauling him out of the girl’s reach out of pure instinct. But once they were out of range, the girl cackling menacingly behind them, he realized how silly it had been to be startled and let go of him. He looked ahead, wondering how El was reacting to all this, but the other group had already turned the corner.
“Pretty good makeup job on that one,” he said in what he hoped was a casual tone, attempting to make light of the situation.
He could feel Hopper grab at his shoulder, could feel the bigger man yank him out of the girl's reach, and glanced up at the older man once he was finally let go. His face was flushed with embarrassment at how he'd allowed himself to get startled by something as simple as a girl in make-up... but it seemed that he wasn't alone at least. Hopper had been startled too...
It made him feel a bit less embarrassed...
The biker nodded, his breath coming out in a slow exhale, and swallowed a lump in his throat as they were ushered onward. "Yeah-" He agreed verbally, dark eyes snapping up when he heard another loud bang off to his left. Looking ahead he could see flashing- a strope-effect- and frowned. Shit... this wasn't going to be pleasant. He did his best to constrain his vision- he didn't like it... didn't like not being able to see in the dark and see what was coming...
Jack noticeably slowed, not really wanting to continue into that next room, but when he felt Hopper bump up against his back he reluctantly slipped between the hanging strips of fabric separating the rooms. He flinched as soon as he entered- an man's pained screams sounding just in front of him- and the biker reached down to snatch Hopper's wrist... squeezing tight.
It's not real-
There's another flash of light and Jack's eyes go wide when he sees the man- blood running over his lips and chin- he sputters- and Jack can swear he can smell that stagnant swamp... can swear he's tasting blood on his own tongue... The light flashes again and he's petrified- unable to tear himself from his spot- as the man twists in agony, writhes on the muddy ground... writhes in black tar and his own blood... writhes as his body is invaded-

Hopper grinned at Jack’s recounting of the evening at the repair shop, his impression of his boss pretty spot-on. He knew almost everyone in Hawkins fairly well, being the chief of police and having grown up in town. Sleepy little towns like theirs didn’t change much over the years. Families often stayed in the same house over generations. It sometimes took newcomers a while to get settled in amongst the locals, so hopefully he had expedited the process for Jack somewhat.
“Joe’s not used to so much activity,” said the older man, glancing at Jack as they walked. “He may be a good mechanic, but he’s not got a lot of work ethic. Not like he needs it around here. Mostly repairs tractors.”
Ahead of them, El and the others erupted into little yelps and screams, then laughter. Hopper sighed, anticipating what could have startled them. Oh well, at least they were having fun.
Jack was trying, trying about as best as he could considering he wasn't- well- that he wasn't normal by any stretch of the word. It certainly helped that Hopper seemed to have taken a liking to him and that his boss, Joe, had warmed up to him rather quickly. Still, Jack found it hard to make 'friends'. He was charming and charismatic, funny, and knew how to work a room if needed... but he could be blunt and abrasive- had an attitude problem- and didn't really know how to really build any meaningful relationship unless the other party showed an interest first...
"I can tell-" He stuck his tongue out, pressing it against his upper teeth and bottom lip. He glanced up at Hopper, able to make the older man's face out with ease despite the dim lighting- red rings dilating around either pupil to help him see. "I'm teachin' 'im a bit 'bout motorbikes when work's slow while hes teachin' me 'bout tractors 'n other farm equipment. Never worked on any of that back home- maybe the occasional boat motor-" He trailed off when he heard the kids yelp and scream, then shook his head a bit and turned back to Hopper, "I'mma be honest- I've never been t' one of these..."
Jackson had- he knew that- but the guy had been completely fucking loaded so... it was all a bit of a blur- he wasn't really sure what to expect. He can hear yelling a short distance ahead- like someone shouting orders- and as they step on ahead there's a man wearing what looks like a bloody boar-head as a mask shouting at them. He turns to Jack and Hopper, a fake cleaver in hand, and snarls at them before barking sharply at them to move- stalking after them a few feet before turning back to snarl and jump at the couple behind them.
The corridor they entre smells humid and Jack can see chains overhead with what look like meat-hooks on the ends. Up ahead theres more screaming and he tries to stand up on the tips of his toes to see ahead of them- really only able to make out another turn in the corridor along with some flashing lights.
Suddenly to his right there's a loud bang and he jolts- nearly bumping into Hopper in the process- and he stares wide-eyed at the girl who's wearing tear-streaked makeup and looks like part of her face has been torn off. He can tell it isn't real but that doesn't stop him from the uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach as he's ushered forward- leaning away from the girl as she claws for him. Jack didn't really scare easy- he had heightened senses so could typically see any threats coming from a good distance away- but with all the noise going on he hadn't noticed her at all. He can feel his face heat with embarrassment...
