A/N: This is my entry for the 25 Days of TWSTmas 2022 Collab on Quotev. I chose day 6 and the prompt was: baking. This is a Riddle Rosehearts x Gender Neutral Y/N oneshot!
Background for this is that Y/N was a baker back in their old world and, upon finding out that their boyfriend can't bake, offers to teach him how to bake.
It surprised you to know that Riddle didn't know how to bake. You thought, given the amount of tarts and various other sweets he eats, he would know how to bake at least a little bit.
But no, he didn't know how to bake. Not even a little bit. But you couldn't blame him. Baking wasn't everyone's favorite thing, not like it was yours. That's the whole reason you had made baking your main source of income. People would pay well for a good slice of cake or batch of cookies. You loved to bake. It'd been your grandma and your's special holiday tradition, after all.
Upon learning that your boyfriend couldn't bake, and wanted to be able to make Christmas cookies, you offered to teach him. You didn't expect him to be so eager to learn.
So, you commandeered the Heartslabyul kitchen from Trey to teach your beloved boyfriend how to bake some Christmas cookies.
You figured that sugar cookies should be easy enough and made sure you had all the ingredients to make them, waiting for your boyfriend to get done with Dorm Leader duties. To pass the time, you fished out a Christmas-themed apron, a speaker, and began to play some Christmas songs while dancing around the kitchen in you silly apron.
You hadn't realized that Riddle had entered the room. Not until he cleared his throat from the kitchen entrance and nearly scared you out of your skin. You could feel the blood rushing to your face in embarrassment at being caught, but Riddle simply smiled, grabbing one of the plain aprons Trey kept hanging up and putting it on, making sure to tie it properly as he did.
"Shall we get started, my rose?" he hummed.
"Yeah, that sounds good," you responded, going over to preheat the oven, realizing that you'd forgotten to before.
You pulled out the recipe paper, knowing that he'd probably like to see it. Then, you made sure that you had all the measuring tools you'd need. You had learned how to eye the measurements, having been baking since you were a child, but you knew that Riddle might need just a tad bit of help.
"Let's start with the dry ingredients," you suggested.
"Why are we putting salt in the cookies? I thought they were meant to be sweet?" Riddle asked, reading through the list of ingredients.
"It helps with flavor. Such a small amount won't make the cookies salty," you explained, measuring out 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and pouring it into the large bowl you'd set out for the dry ingredients.
He let out a hum of acknowledgement, measuring out the amount of salt needed. You moved to the other side of the counter, focusing on pouring the right amount of sugar into the mixer so that you could combine it with the butter. You had realized that it would take a bit for that to whisk together, so you'd be better off starting that now. You trusted that Riddle would be able to measure out the baking soda and powder and pour them into the bowl. The measuring cups and spoon were labelled very clearly for a reason.
As you were whisking together the butter and sugar, you heard the Christmas start bake up, looking up to find Riddle grinning at you. You were surprised to see him holding out a hand for you to come dance with him. You thought that he wanted to learn how to bake! But, you supposed you couldn't deny his silent request when he so often denied the very same request when you asked.
You took his hand, dance to a multitude of Christmas songs with him while you combined the dry ingredients together, finished mixing the sugar and butter together, and combined the two mixtures together with the eggs you had set out. You even danced while you made dough balls, placed them on a baking-paper-lined baking pan and popped the cookies in the oven, timer set for 10 minutes.
You two lost track of time, laughing and dancing there in the kitchen, in your aprons, looking like quite the sight granted the fact that Riddle had flour on his nose and in her hair and you had it all over your cheeks in streaks and on your apron. How it had gotten there, neither of you had a clue, but you knew that you were having fun and that holiday spirit was definitely in the air.
You two jumped when you heard the timer go off, laughing when you realized just how carried away the two of you had gotten. You slid on a pair of red oven mitts (you weren't sure if they were meant to be Heartslabyul-themed or Christmas-themed, but either way) and opened the oven to take out the cookies to cool.
You two could decorate them later, but you were eager to get back to dancing, and it seemed that Riddle was too.
As the cookies cooled and you and Riddle danced together in the middle of the kitchen, you could tell the holidays were going to be especially special this year.
