I am saying this as someone who loves olivia rodrigo and for whom drop dead is definitely going to be in my top 5 come november time; olivia is never going to escape the taylor swift comparisons and it's not actually because of taylor or swifties it's because of her own fanbase being unable to celebrate any success she has without comparing her to taylor, even if it's on the surface a "favourable comparison". olivia has distanced herself from taylor as much as she can but you dumbasses won't let her. no matter what, olivia's success will always be measured by how she "out-does" taylor and in that way, her own fans keep pushing her into taylor's shadow.

ironically, taylor swift does in fact have a song about this.

Once I was feeding some ducks from a bag of birdseed I brought with me, and this woman next to me looked so confused and asked what I was feeding them

When I said it was birdseed she just went “oh- can they actually eat that? Is that safe?”

I didnt know how to respond like, at all, so I just pointed at the duck and said “bird”

She then had a look on her face like a new groove was just forcibly carved in her brain and said softly “oh my fucking god”
