Movement

I think most of the criticism of the No Kings Protests misses the point. The hope is to oust Trump, but that is not the point. The point is to help the protesters foster community and practice being part of a movement.

You won't wake up one day, read a message from a great leader, and take to the streets.

Just move. Keep moving. Try to make your movements effective. The hope is that, if enough of us keep doing that, we will form an effective movement.

Teeth

Bertrand Russell mocked Aristotle for believing women had fewer teeth; even though, Aristotle was married. However, Bertrand Russell probably didn’t check his wife’s teeth before bringing this criticism.

I need someone to attempt to use this to get to first base and report back.

Comeuppance

It is weird that Wal-Mart sprung up from where the Trail-of-Tears ended.

Youtubers

This is mildly off-topic. Does it feel like most youtubers have three social circles eventually? The first one is friends and family. The second one is more impersonal, and it is centered around long-form or high-production content. The third one is kind of a hybrid, and it is usually found on Discord or Patreon.

We all need the first. The second starts off small and mostly made of the first, but with success, the second circle becomes a performer/audience dynamic. The third circle is community built around the performance.

The morals of dealing with friends and family has centuries of study. The obligations of a performer and an audience member has had less study, but there has been some.

I cannot think of any parallels for the third. Maybe a renaissance artist and their patron, but I do not think most leftist/progressive/bread-tubers are looking to recreate that particular dynamic.

Is it community of accountability? The cynic in me says it's an upgraded parasocial relationship, but I don't think that's true.

Just a little relationship, drama post…

Good morning! I love the worm question, and thought of a drama one.

I was listening to Chapell Roan when she mentioned Brigitte Bardot. Well, I looked her up. (She has a fascinating life but has cheated on past partners.)

I am very against cheaters, but I also like to avoid rigid thinking. B.B. is a conventional beauty, and it harder for her to get true authenticity from her partners.

I think misogyny influences (even progressive) men to crave romantic/sexual relationships with women. Men will be as honest and genuine as they believe they are allowed to be. When the relationship starts to die, most men will adjust to ensure their partner doesn't leave: tolerable levels of permanent unhappiness. They still want the status and sexual access.

Anyway....I wanted to try to justify B.B.'s cheating, with the foregoing in-mind.

I think the following choice would be appropriate: "I am looking for my true love, and I think you may be it. I enjoy sex, but I believe the status and sexual access I provide will cause men to choose access to me over me. Therefore I offer you the choice: 'Before we are engaged, we can either not have penetrative sex or I am allowed to not be exclusive. Yes; this is not a mirrored right. You are required to be exclusive regardless."

The End? Yes; you must have an ending for a new beginning.

In 1938, Otto sought visas out of the Netherlands. Otto was 48. Edith was 38. Margot was 12. Anne was 9.

On Friday, May 10, 1940, Germany invaded the Netherlands. On Wednesday, May 15, 1940, the Netherlands surrendered. Otto was 48. Edith was 38. Margot was 12. Anne was 9.

In 1941, Otto sought visas out of the Netherlands. Otto was 52. Edith was 41. Margot was 15. Anne was 12.

On July 6, 1942, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne go into hiding.

Egg Protest

Easter eggs are a good way to protest; you just put colorful easter eggs in places.

It reminds everyone of the egg lies. It is basically anonymous. You can do it anywhere. It is low risk and easy access. There's lots of room for creativity.

If you don't like plastic eggs, you can use real eggs. If you don't want either of those, you can just make a paper mache' egg or use a rock.

A ball of aluminum foil might work, but you gotta really try for the egg shape.

Four college students are on a game show. They are told they have to "discover" the new song. When the game starts, static and distortions will play, and the contestants will listen to the sounds and try to guess the song first. In reality, the sounds are mostly random, but they are influenced by an LLM which takes the discussions of the contestants into account.

About 20 years ago, World of Warcraft (WoW) released pvp battlegrounds. These pvp battlegrounds were separated into level ranges. Some players created characters specifically to be a strong character in a lowered level battleground. These characters were called "twinks," at least for a while.

Nightbitch

Nightbitch is a really good movie. I don't know how well it works for non-parents, but it is crazy good representation of having a small child take over your life. The thing that astounds me is how good each of the parents were. People talk about the husband doing this wrong or the mother doing that wrong, but considering the circumstances, they both did better than most people would.

The husband missed things and went along with things because it was easier for him. He wanted to believe she was happy. He didn't examine his own motivations and prejudices, and he didn't consider the pressure his wife would be under. He fucked up, but it was a mistake. I think, at the end, he realized he fucked up.

When she brought up separation, he finally accepted the fact that the mother wasn't doing well and needed help. He went along with her, but he didn't believe he did anything wrong. He just thought she was overwhelmed. When he saw her art, i think he finally got it.

She wasn't just mad because she needed help. She was upset because he failed. When she offered to be a stay at home mom, she had some idea of the sacrifice she was making. He didn't. He believed she was getting a good, if not better, deal (giving up work to stay home). He refused to see how unhappy she was or to consider that her unhappiness was justified, because it was easier for him to do so. Seeing her and her art. I think he finally realized that he had let her give up something she loved because it was easier for him.

The mother made mistakes, but I think they are more forgivable. Her communication wasn't great, but I don't think anyone can have great communication when they are exhausted and confused. "Why didn't she just tell him?!" It seems so obvious, but it just isn't. How can she complain without looking like she dislikes her child? How can she compare a day with a child to a day of work?

Neil Gaiman

I do not want to financially support bad people. I do not think it is good to destroy art after it has been purchased. I think it is a good reminder that I am a person. Everyone agrees that "Anyone could be a sexual predator," but most people believe they would spot them. Neil Gaiman seemed good; I thought he was a good person. I was wrong, and I think its useful to be reminded of that.
