The Part of Me That Went Quiet

I used to wear myself like wind— unfiltered, full-bodied, unapologetically in motion. Now I speak in echoes—

trimmed down to what lands softly, softened into something digestible. I shrink to fit the quietest version of me, like squeezing thunder into a bottle.

I used to think that made me careful. But maybe it just made me smaller so no one would say I was too much. The girl I used to be

let the rain fall freely, let herself feel something without apologizing for the flood. She made peace with her mess,

wrote poems in the margins, believed breaking let her survive the swell. I miss her. Or maybe I am her— still buried under layers of performance.

Still breathing. Still waiting. I want to hold space for silence without feeling forgotten. I want to be heard without translation.

I want to belong to myself without proving I'm worth the room. I want to stop measuring my softness against someone else’s comfort.

I want to come home and not need a reason.
