April (cntd.)
Queenie, a two-year-old Queensland terrier mix, the rescue dog of 72-year-old Ann Rodgers, who survived nine days lost in the Arizona desert with her owner after a car breakdown.
The sniffer dogs of Manchester Airport, who were confirmed not to be grasses by a report into border checks that said none of them had found any drugs in seven months, though they had located plenty of cheese and sausage.
Bobo and Simba, mascots, as well as all the other good boys and girls at Puppychino, the first dog café to open in Delhi, serving quality food for dogs and humans alike.
Maggie, 30-year-old Australian kelpie from Victoria, the oldest dog in the world, who passed away peacefully while sleeping in her basket. RIP lovely old girl.
Fat Vincent, a formerly morbidly obese seven-year-old dachshund, who shed half his 38-lb body weight, and presumably his nickname, through exercise and a special diet.
Pero, a four-year-old working sheepdog from near Aberystwyth, Wales, who walked 240 miles home after his family sold him to another farm in Cockermouth, Cumbria, and he decided he didn’t like it there. Poor old Pero.
The unbelievably happy dog who invaded a football match between Táchira and Pumas in the Copa Libertadores tournament in Brazil, and was eventually carried off by a Pumas player.
Charlie, an 11-year-old brown and white pointer from Alabama whose owner thought he had disappeared, but who was found 10 years later 250 miles away. He needed surgery for a tumour, which was raised through crowdfunding.
Rex, a formerly feral German shepherd mix from Whittier, California, who saved Hummer, a hummingbird who he found close to death while on a walk with his owner. The two are now best friends.
A labrador mix near Valparaiso, Chile, who saved her puppies from a forest fire by digging them a hole to hide in.
May

Mugly, a 12-year-old Chinese crested dog, already notable as “the World’s Ugliest Dog”, who received a Hero Award at the National Pet Show for helping children with disabilities. You are an inspiration, Mugly.
Cynarctus wangi, a newly discovered species of ancient dog, the fossilized remains of one of whom were found in Maryland, and who is said to have been “a fearsome bone crusher”. Cool.
Haus, a two-year-old German shepherd who saved seven-year-old owner Molly from an eastern diamondback rattlesnake, the most venomous species in North America, by taking three bites for her. He survived his injuries and made a good recovery. A real hero.
Daisy, a six-month-old puppy who was found abandoned in the car park of a baseball stadium when she was just six weeks old and was then adopted by the team, the Savannah Bananas of Georgia, to be their “bat dog”.
Riley, a five-year-old golden retriever from Belmont, North Carolina, whose family thought he had run away for good, but who had in fact only run away temporarily to have fun at doggy daycare.
Pacer, a dog from British Columbia, Canada who saved his owner by fighting off a bear who was attacking him.
Tula, a four-year-old chocolate lab mix from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, who takes photos with a GoPro on her harness and has her own Instagram.
Taffy, a diabetic alert dog from North Carolina who appeared alongside owner Harry Hulse in his high school yearbook.
Bobby, a two-year-old cocker spaniel who fell down an 82-foot well in Gimingham, Norfolk, escaped injury, and survived for two weeks, possibly by eating mud, until he was rescued by firefighters.
June
Freya, a six-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, called “Britain’s loneliest dog”, who was personally cast in the next Transformers film by director Michael Bay.
Bretagne, the last 9/11 rescue dog, a golden retriever who also featured on last year’s list, sadly passed away at the age of 16. Sleep well, pupper.
Buddy, a rescue dog from Toronto, who had great fun playing fetch with a tennis ball machine.
Beya, a six-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever who was very socially awkward at a pool party. i can relate.
Twinkie, a Jack Russell terrier from California, who broke the Guinness World Record in the category “Fastest time to pop 100 balloons by a dog” with a time of 39.08 seconds. Nice work, Twinkie.
