You can just call me Ruby, which, like sapphires (and by extent, padparadschas), are corundum, Al2O3. Therefore Sapphires should be as combat capable as Rubies.

Rainbow quartz is the hot dance instructor that all the neighborhood single dads want to bang and Rainbow Quartz 2.0 is her flamboyant gay son who sometimes sits in on lessons, drinking Starbucks and doing makeup for recitals. In this essay I will-

I think, storywise, it makes a lot of sense that Rainbow 2.0 goes by both he/him and they/them. Pearl stands out as the show-off side of the fusion, always insisting on taking the lead. It’s especially prominent with Sardonyx, but it also happens with Opal and “all those fancy back flips.” Even fusing with Rose, Rainbow Quartz was mainly showing off to make Greg jealous, with Rose’s eyes glancing at him lovingly throughout the dance.

It has been established with Stevonnie and Smoky that all of Steven’s fusions go by they/them pronouns. It makes sense, given that Steven is biologically male, Connie is biologically female, and the gems are nonbinary women who use she/her pronouns; they/them is the most appropriate middle group. In gem fusions, Steven’s human body combined with a gem’s light form, it would make sense that his presence is the fusion stands out enough that they would prefer pronouns that would acknowledge him, rather than defaulting to the typical gem she/her.

But Pearl’s relationship with Steven is different from her relationships with the other gems. He is her baby and she’s so proud of him. As Rainbow 2.0, Pearl would absolutely raise him up as the most prominent mind in the fusion. Their entire identity would be based around the fact that Steven is doing a Gem Thing™ and he’s come so far and she’s so proud of him for it. Besides, Pearl has drifted away from being traditionally feminine, so out of the three, I feel she would be the least opposed to using he/him, but only and especially when she’s fused with Steven.

Rainbow 2.0 is a nonbinary boy who is very proud of himself and likes being silly, making puns, and solving problems in creative ways. We stan.
