Please click on this text to sign this important petition for the British government to stop paying for cruel experiments on monkeys. Our tax money could be used for much better things!

The Anti-Vivisection Coalition (AVC) is an international organisation who in a short time has gotten laws passed in Belgium that ban tobacco tests on animals and all testing on cats. Further, The Belgian Philip Morris lab was closed down and monkey experiments for drugs at Ku Leuven are abolished. In the Netherlands, the AVC has also shut down several monkey labs at universities. They rescued 87 monkeys and beagles and they stopped a beagle lab being built.

Their success is entirely built on pressure from the public. News articles and public demonstrations are at its core. You can also help by signing the petition and spreading the word!

Something that keeps creeping up is bothering me more and more: how people hypocritically show strong compassion for one species, but not another.

I am referring in particular to the ritual slaughter of Dolphins in Denmark. Of course it is outrageous and people are right to speak out against this barbarism, but why aren’t people bothered by the mass slaughter of other species for the pure enjoyment of humans?

This is probably where I will lose most of you: Why are people so quick to say “that’s wrong”, “They deserve to be tortured for doing that to Dolphins”, “What is wrong with the world?” etc… Yet will gladly pay someone else to rape, torture, and murder a cow or a pig (pigs, by the way, are more intelligent than an average 3 year old child and are considered to be the most intelligent domesticated animal- smarter than your dog) just so they can have a bacon sandwich?

I really wish people would recognise their hypocrisy and take a stand against allcruelty. We should show compassion for all creatures, not just the ones we consider to be ‘cute’ or pets. Many people will choose to ignore the facts about the intelligence of pigs and go straight to the argument “but Dolphins are really intelligent”. If that is your stand point then please take a moment to consider the implications of a world where a creature’s right to its own life is determined by its IQ- including humans.

The question should not be “can it think intelligent thoughts?”, but “can it suffer?” The answer to the latter for all species of animal that are currently being exploited for the food industry is “yes”. If you can seriously say that even though you know that eating meat directly causes the unnecessary pain and suffering of another creature, who wants to live every bit as much as you or I, you are happy to go ahead contributing to this unthinkable cruelty, then there really is no hope for humanity.

A demonstration for the International Animal Rights Day in Kaunas, Lithuania. 

The animal rights activists in Kaunas laid down some animal products and photos of animals which were killed in order to make that product. They also talked with the passers-by about animal rights and gave an interview to a local news station. 

The animal products you see in the photos where not bought for this demonstration except the meat sub products which were later given to homeless dogs. You might argue the use of animal products, however, it helped some people to finally see the connection between a piece of meat and an animal.

Yesterday’s story of the elderly NYC man who was beaten bloody by police for jaywalking today gets a tragic companion from Philadelphia:

A 16-yr-old African American boy was sexually assaulted by a police officer during a “stop and frisk” pat-down. The assault was committed with such violence that the youth’s testicles were literally ruptured.

Now, Darrin Manning of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania may never be able to father children, according to the doctors who performed surgery on his virtually destroyed testicles.

Darrin was a star basketball player with no criminal history to speak of. He was a straight-A student who never got into any sort of trouble. He was with his teammates heading to a game right after school when he encountered an officer who decided he was “suspicious” and needed to be subjected to local “stop and frisk” procedures.

Though no official reason has been given for the stop and frisk, Darrin and the other (uniformed) members of the basketball team who were stopped suggest it was because they were wearing scarves over their faces to protect against the extreme cold Philadelphia, like much of the country, has suffered this winter.

Darrin was put in handcuffs. When the officer began “frisking” him, they grabbed hold of Darrin’s genitals so hard, pulled and twisted, that the teen’s genitals literally tore off.

“I felt the officer reach and grab my butt. Then the officer grabbed my testicles and squeezed again and pulled down. And that’s when I heard something pop, like I felt it POP,” Manning said.

The incident has left the 16-year-old with felony charges of assault and resisting arrest.

"I’m just grateful that they just didn’t kill him," said Darrin’s mother.
