Thomas Shelby — PEAKY BLINDERS S04E01
Natasha O'Keeffe S6 Premiere " Well, I think Lizzie probably represents a woman of family values and she doesn’t really want to be part of this business. She would love to be out of this. She wants that happy life, in the mountains - that he promised - with the kids, being free.”
Grace was also a woman of family values who didn’t want to be part of that business and wanted a happy life with Tommy and Charlie but Lizzie decided that it was a good idea to go out with a Italian gangster who could not be trusted and was a threat to the Peaky organisation. Lizzie’s jealousy played a role ruining another woman’s dream of a home with her husband and child. Lizzie didn’t deserve to live Grace’s life!!
But only to Grace ❤️
Peaky Blinders, Series 1: Episode 3 (2013)
That they were both same. Two sides of the same coin. They are both preparing for the day, not knowing what to expect. They wear a mask in front of the world, prepared to lie, manipulate or even kill if the circumstances demand.

The reaction the mrkdvidal post received was so heartwarming and I want everyone (if you see this) who shared their story, shared the post for awareness, expressed their condolences or gratitude, or reached out to me personally to know that I am so grateful for the support and the love. And for those who were worried about seeming annoying or anything reaching out to me, I want you guys to know that every single person who did so or even took the time to reblog the post is appreciated. <3 This I'm sure will be the first of many thanks.
I'm unfortunately limited by my health and can't get around to replying to everyone's messages and such today. I need to get some rest and will hopefully respond tomorrow. Please know it is not my intention to ignore or overlook anyone!
i remember this account. He used to get into a lot of fights about hatred over Grace. I thought he also had a wife who was on tumblr and weirdly enough, the wife also used to contribute to all his nonsense fights. “defending” his comments and saying what a lovely husband he is to her and a loving father to their children!! The way he argued over petty things seemed so cringey to me, I felt sorry for the wife, the way she blindly encouraged his rude comments and thought she may see who he is someday.
“Where has your lyricism gone?”
(Or when a drunken Cillian told Bono that U2 was becoming sucky 🤣)
2005:
“I was sitting in Renards Nightclub in Dublin with the prodigiously talented actor Cillian Murphy…We may have been what Irish people refer to as "mildly overserved," when the conversation took a turn toward the honesty exit off the motorway that a great night out can be. I sensed we were going to go there.
Honesty, we agreed, is the irreducible minimum in creativity, and it never gets easier. At which point Cillian grabbed the wheel and we made a sharp left turn into vino veritas.
"I used to be such a big fan," he said. "I loved your early stuff. I loved The Joshua Tree …”
Dramatic pause.
“... but then I lost you."
And here comes his question. "Where has your lyricism gone? You used to write about real love and real life, you wrote about characters like Victor Jara or the strikers in Red Hill Mining Town."
Pause.
"Vertigo'? What is that song? Who are you talking to?"
In vino veritas. You have to admire it. This great actor cannot tell a lie, not even to the person pouring his champagne.
At which point the girl with crimson nails, or someone very similar, was asking us if we needed another drink, and both of us laughing, I said to Cillian, "You have to write what you know, write where you are."
I'm grateful to know Cillian and his partner, Yvonne, and delighted to still see them at U2 shows, but more grateful still for the exceptional performer who cannot tell a lie.”
-From Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story by Bono (2022). Edited from pages 430-433
This is a lovely story. Thanks for sharing. I think many creative people saw that he was someone special during his early days. Danny Boyle worked with him twice, Chris Nolan ofcourse kept on working with him, and now reading this little story from Bono …
For me, I really discovered him when I watched Peaky. The empty stare, the voice, the pause before saying something impactful, the dialogue delivery in general, everything about s1 Tommy is mesmerising ❤️ But even before peaky, I remembered him as Chris Nolan’s guy, the one from batman franchise and inception😌
What an early birthday gift to @tommygrace — Tommy x Grace fans’ responses succeeded in getting Josh Horowitz to ask Cill about the “Happy or Sad” scene!!
“A few moments that jump out from Peaky Blinders… people, of course, talked about your many wonderful scenes with Annabelle Wallis playing Grace…”
❤️

Being a Tommy/Alfie shipper who minds their own business while Tommy/Grace and Tommy/Lizzie shippers are slaughtering each other 24/7 be like:

This interview was a treat to tommy grace shippers.
Debate Time
Putting aside the fact that this is a TV show because some people like to be an ass about it
Would Grace have stayed with Tommy and left her husband if he had been the same lowly bookmaker/gangster he was at the end of season 1?
LMAO NO LETS BE HONEST
She slept with Tommy because her husband wasn’t fertile, she stayed with him because she saw how rich he was. IDC I don’t like Grace and don’t think she stayed with Tommy because she “loved” him
Yes!! Exactly!! She wouldn't have lived him in his Small Heath apartment. She would never adjust. Fuck, Tommy bought Arrow House for her. I'm sure she manipulated him into it.
The bitch just broke his heart and then used him and then broke his heart. Again.
👆
It’s funny when tommy-lizzie shippers say things like this😂😂 apparently grace is a bitch who broke his heart..used him and broke his heart. Again…ummm and exactly what is Tommy doing with Lizzie throughout the series? 🤡 …the same shipping hypocrites are praying Tommy ends up with Lizzie at the end of the movie🫠
And Grace would not adjust?! She manipulated him into buying arrow house?!? 😂😂 just nonsensical
In response to an anonymous question sent to dear @tommygrace:
Ugh. Anti-Grace people always end up with their final retort being, "She's Dead!" As if we Grace fans think she's going to be reanimated and be his zombie bride.
We know she's dead. But we also understand that she doesn't need to be alive to be a huge presence on Tommy's life and mindset. 10 years after her death, she was still one of the first people he thought of. She was a safe place, the heart that he called "Home."
The problem is that people get confused and think the Grace hallucination of season 5 was the real Grace, or how Tommy truly remembered her.Hologram Grace 🤪 was a personification of Tommy's inner-guilt and torment. She wore the face of Grace, but the things she said were all Tommy's own personal demons being uttered. He conjured her up her in his troubled mind because she was such a solace. He missed her so much.
But Tommy's own trauma and torment couldn't help but bubble through. Hence, her harsh words, & her telling him to kill himself. (When we all know real Grace would never want Tommy to abandon Charlie...so don't tell her what Tommy Charlie...so don't tell her what Tommy did at the end of season 6) 😏
You just have to see Tommy's face when he recounted first seeing hallucination Grace, how his eyes light up & how happy & lovestruck he still was at her presence:
She might be dead, but the way she made him feel is not. That will never fade. And it will forever be the benchmark of how he goes for future relationships. So yes, she might be dead, but her influence on Tommy, deep inside is not. Animal has never said the Grace is going to come back to life and return to the show—people might want to read it that way, but all she ever implies is that Grace's impact is not through on Peaky Blinders.
Tommy's love of her, and his sadness over the loss of her, will forever live in him.
In fact, Cillian has spoken about the importance of Grace in the series, thst in fact Tommy being in love with her was as close as Tommy ever got to again being the man he was before the war; to being a better man, and that her death permanently changed Tommy's outlook.
To the BBC:
"I think the pre-war Tommy smiled and laughed a lot. He wanted to work with horses, he was very romantic.
"All of these things - you see scratches of them throughout the show and there are times when he feels he is getting towards some sort of healing when he's with Grace.
And then it's taken away again and he retreats back into that kind of shell emotionally."
And to the Radio Times:
“…during the time Tommy was married to Grace he was completely faithful. Prior to that, sex was basically a way of self-medicating, then Grace's death spun him off into something else entirely. I think that as we meet him now, he's probably shut down again emotionally, and sex is just a physical need that has to be met."
So, anonymous, Cillian has always emphasized the relevance of Grace, alive or dead, in the life of Tommy.

Huh?!? I think. Natasha o’keefe is the most desperate to make her character likeable to the audience. She has even lied in some interviews and said things like Tommy started the Changretta war in s3 because he was jealous and cannot see Lizzie with other men😵💫 or Lizzie is scared of Tommy🙄. The show could not make it anymore clear which brother was really jealous, they laid the foundation back in s2 finale when they showed the other brother comforting lizzie while tommy was busy thinking about the woman he loved. And not once in the entire show we have seen lizzie scared or fearful of tommy or any shelby. She enjoyed the close proximity and willingly did what she did. She was even proud about it (the evil smirk to jessie🤮).
Natasha even said in some interviews during s6/s6 that tommy has a passionate love for her, no wonder her fans are delusional. She is the one spreading toxic interpretations in the first place.
Annabelle on the other hand is doing the right thing by addressing questions she gets asked even though her character is dead for years. She is respectful of the fans sentiments and doesn’t squash their hope. And knowing the way SK works, she is honest in saying, the world of peaky is full of surprises, so you never know what might be.
Scenes that summarize the two marriages. It is Tommy who looks for Grace but she also looks for him and he, happily, receives the affection. On the other hand, with Lizzie, she is the one who always looks for him, he never looked for her, and even though he sometimes receives her affection, he always ends up rejecting her.
Fantastic comparison! It’s so interesting how he barely looks Lizzie in the eyes, either. He’s rarely face-to-face with her, and if he is, his face is usually cast in darkness. The picture in the GIF above of him and her, looking at one another, but the brim of his hat casts his eye in shadows— so indicative, symbolically, of how she can never really see all of him. His emotions and inner-life are always guarded from her.
Welcome to the Peaky Blinders fandom (EDITED)
Interesting.
