Hi guys! Follow my Instagram where I document how I live in an eco-friendly and sustainable way š
Why eat animal products when you can make all this out of plants?! š¤Ŗš¤Ŗš¤Ŗ Mac & cheese made of coconut milk, topped with smoked coconut chips. The recipe is from @avantgardevegan and was one of the best Iāve ever made! Seriously, save a life and the planet, thereās no need to be eating animal secretions anymore š https://www.instagram.com/p/BxAqz9-n3Pz/?igshid=1fbpovs4m6xxa
Today is the last day of #fashionrevolutionweek! The fashion industry is incredibly damaging, both socially and environmentally. As well as being one of the largest sources of chemical pollution and landfill waste, many workers are exploited and underpaid. š š»āāļø Thatās why I #boycottfastfashion and only buy second hand clothes! Buying second hand is cheaper (this top was only Ā£3.99!), means I donāt contribute to the exploitation of (mainly) women workers and has a low environmental impact, putting to use clothes that would have otherwise been sent to landfill š So this year, why donāt you have a look at your local charity shops and see what you can find! š https://www.instagram.com/p/BwzzLARnaNe/?igshid=10u4labbpbs27
Itās getting warmer again! Ice tea in a plastic bottle? Nah! šš»ā Make your own using only: 1. Loose leaf ice tea 2. Organic and package-free lemons 3. Bulk sugar 4. A reusable glass jug! Easy peasy! š Whatās your favourite drink you make to enjoy the sun? āļø https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwuto6EHCEq/?igshid=1smyxf9bhepr4
Happy Earth Day! š My top tip for protecting our Earth is by going vegan. A vegan diet can reduce your carbon footprint by 70-75%, reducing your meat intake by 1/3 can reduce your water footprint by 33% and if everyone in the world went vegan, land usage would drop by 75%, reducing deforestation, biodiversity loss and global warming! Whatās your favourite earth-friendly tip? š¤ https://www.instagram.com/p/BwkdVWnnODo/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7nvsnp23euak
What do you do to help the planet? š ⢠I live a vegan lifestyle (this year is my 6th!), try to buy plastic free, only buy second hand clothes, buy 100% renewable energy, only buy local & organic veg, work for a sustainability not-for-profit, about to start an environmental management masters & am involved in #climateactivism with the #youthstrike4climate. ⢠Post what you do to fight the good fight below. š Letās support and uplift everyone trying to save our planet. I want to acknowledge each and every one of you! ⤠https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwc5jGmH8iR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5vmeoet9d5c7
What Iāve noticed lately is how the fight for our planet is so unequal. Where my parents live, you can recycle all types of plastic, including food trays and yoghurt pots. Food waste goes to the industrial composting facility. Where I live, the recycling plant ONLY takes plastic bottles and we have no food bin. Of course this means in poorer areas, thereās more pollution and more harm to wildlife. š„ ⢠To really save our planet we need investment. Investment in infrascture, renewable energy and decarbonisation. We need to get rid of the inequality in society, because letās face it, no one is thinking about their environmental footprint if they canāt put food on the table! Yes itās going to cost. But the planet is worth it. ššŖ https://www.instagram.com/p/BwU2jbBHiqX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15wcal13aycsd
Homemade vegan salad cream in a repurposed jar š Low waste, sustainable and delicious! ⢠This super simple recipe was just; tahini, apple cider vinegar, miso, pepper, nutritional yeast & water for consistency! Play around with the components to find ratio that works for you. ⢠One of the easiest ways to make your kitchen more sustainable is use what you already have! With a bit of creativity, youāll be surprised with what you can make š½š https://www.instagram.com/p/BwH8q3FHXQ_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=i6vj73byb80b
Hi everyone šš»Ā I havenāt been as active on IGĀ recently and I wanted to explain why.Ā Iām trying to live my life in the present and see social media as a tool for spreading positive environmental messages. Nothing more and nothing less. ⢠⢠Itās all too easy to get caught up in social media, constantly checking your likes and followers. This takes away from other aspects of my life; connecting with my loved ones, spirituality and nature š¹ ⢠⢠Iām not a social media influencer and Iām not trying to be.Ā In my view, even if one person sees my post and thinks āIām going to try eat more veganā or 'Iām going to try buy local groceriesā, I am helping the earth in my own little way ššš https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv6vtvwHYOP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kyyi84mo9c87
Iām in love with my guppy bag! š From @stopmicrowaste, this awesome initative catches microplastics shed from your clothes when you wash them & prevents it from going into the waterways! š Did you know the most common source of plastic pollution is from clothes? Microplastics are tiny and you canāt see them, but they are everywhere! šØ In 2017, a group of scientists discovered that 83% of tap water samples worldwide contain microplastics and it is estimated that there are 15-51 trillion individual pieces of microplastics in the oceans. We are drinking and eating microplastics and burdening marine life with them as well! Getting a guppy bag is such a simple way to make a huge difference, so have you got yours yet? š https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvmod78HZAC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=kyjymfg02p7a
Everyday Iām in awe of nature. And thatās why I work so hard to protect it. (at NT Brimham Rocks) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvHzIAuH63k/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=k22kiuwxaskh
Issues with fast fashion include šš»: ⢠landfill waste ⢠water pollution ⢠harmful pesticides ⢠workers rights violations ⢠microplastics Fast fashion has a HUGE environmental cost. š In the UK 300,000 tonnes of clothing gets sent to landfill EVERY year. The pesticides used to grow inorganic cotton have been proven to be carcinogenic, dangerous chemical dyes pollute the waterways and the biggest source of microplastic pollution is from synthetic clothing. š Many fast fashion brands, including H&M and Zara have been found to pay their workers less than the global living wage, keeping them in a form of wage slavery and essentially trapping them in poverty. š” This year, I am saying #notofastfashion! ā I promised myself that I will only buy from second hand, so check out my first purchase from a charity shop! These boots cost are vegan, only cost Ā£3 and had no impact on the environment whatsoever. š https://www.instagram.com/p/BvCnPsTnvaP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1crim3ke7w39a
If youāre looking to reduce your environmental footprint, try cutting down on dairy. š As you can see from these graphs, dairy has the highest emissions, land use (think deforestation!) and water use, when compared to the most popular vegan milks. Meat and dairy are a very inefficient use of land, accounting for just 18% of calories but contributing to 83% of the Amazonian deforestation. š³ So instead of switching your dairy milk from a a plastic bottle to a glass one, why not try buying a vegan milk (in recyclable packaging as most tetrapaks are) instead! š https://www.instagram.com/p/BvAPB8-nDE4/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mhvvkelpu024
I literally live on tea. I think I have about 5 cups a day? šµ Brits throw away 165 million tea bags everyday which is a LOT going in the bin. Some companies claim to have biodegradable tea bags but line the bags with tiny amounts of plastic, usually polypropylene. And a tiny amount in all 165 million ends up with a lot in the ocean! š Loose leaf tea (packaged plastic free of course) is not only better for the environment but I find waaaay more flavourful than the average tea bags š https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu61iC0nSā/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jauyqylqgalo
Honoured to have been a part of the climate strike today, it was inspirational seeing kids mobilising to take action for our planet šŖ Governments have been silent on climate change for too long, favouring profits over the planet. Governments are happy to steal our future from us and the future of our planet. Thereās nothing more imperative than halting climate change. The kids know this, when will the adults listen? https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt6fQxDnyyO/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mcope7hs7125
No food waste! š„¦ Did you know nearly a billion people can be fed on the food that is wasted in the UK, the rest of Europe and the USA alone?! Considering 16,000 children die of starvation every minute, this is a horrible statistic. How have we come to the point where our supermarkets are throwing out tonnes of food because they look āwonkyā when people are starving elsewhere? It honestly makes me sick. ⢠To do my part, Iāve been experimenting with trying to use up more of the vegetable. I made squash soup the other day so I took all the seeds out and roasted them with a little oil, pepper, paprika and chilli! There was so many seeds that I snacked on them for a week š ⢠Share your delicious recipes for using up parts of the vegetable not often eaten below! š . . . . . #zerowastefood #zerowastetips #reduceyourwaste #zerowastelife #environmentallyconscious #ecofriendlyliving #wastefreeplanet #bemindful #environmentalsustainability #greenenvironment https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt1bāTnEXu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=v8kdjb07qpny
Iāve been thinking about balance recently. Balancing all the different factors to truly find the most sustainable option. A couple of posts ago, I said glass isĀ always the most sustainable option over plastic, because it can be infinitely recycled. After doing my research, I found that this is not necessarily the case. If a plane is stocked full of glass bottles instead of plastic, the carbon footprint of that plane is much higher because of the weight. Also glass takes a lot of energy to produce and recycle. So is glass always better than plastic? Sometimes itās not. ⢠⢠Another thing Iāve been researching is plastic packaging. Wrapping vegetables in plastic has itās uses. It makes vegetables last up to 5 times longer, and if food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd highest emitter of greenhouse gases, after the USA and China. So if all supermarkets didnāt wrap their vegetables in plastic, would that really be moreĀ sustainable, with the effects that would have on climate change? ⢠⢠Itās hard to know what the answer to these problems are. Iām still not comfortable buying vegetables wrapped in plastic, but luckily I have access to package-less veg.Ā Maybe supermarkets should start using cellulose plastic wrapping which is biodegrable? That technology exists because some Iāve seen smaller eco-friendly brands use it and this would increase longevity of good without polluting the oceans forever. I alsoĀ donāt think replacing all plastic bottles with glass bottles is sustainable. I think we should take action to persuade the local councils and government to increase the efficiency of recycling plants, so every plastic bottle is recycled. But of course plastic is only finitely recyclable too. Maybe the only true answer is that humans need to stop consuming so much pre-packaged food. ⢠Itās complicated and I donāt think thereās one right answer. The world is so intertwined and thereās so many factors to consider. How do you find balance?Ā Ā . . . . . #sustainability #vegan #reduceyourplastic #greenlife #savetheenvironment #zerofoodwaste #carbonfootprint #sustainablemovement #goingzerowaste #ecoconscious https://www.instagram.com/p/BtytyCLnKrY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=da28h58v25l5
